I’m not using any grain, it’s just a color correction using whatever grain that is in the Blu-ray.Interestingly, the blu-ray grain is almost certainly digital noise added by Lucasfilm in an attempt to camouflage the grain removal and sharpening they did on the negative.
Do you think they would have bothered going that far for the 2004 HD master? Aside from the fact that relatively few people would have really seen or discussed the HD version of it back then, standards were quite a bit lower in general (I am assuming the 04 and 11 have the same grain, but I don’t really have any clue).
I guess it could have simply been ugly enough that the noise reduction would have been too obvious even on DVD.
