Hey! don't you go insulting Star Trek fans!....I'm one of them! Although I can't say I am a fan of the lastest star trek movies. I'm more of a fan of the classic trek. Since when are Trek fans more "GEEKY" than Star Wars fans?

Simple.

Star Wars fans merely suck up to one guy, and a few MOVIES that happened to have some spinoff novels and games (and ONE upcoming TV series).

Star TREK fans suck up to a COMPANY that puts out a CONTINUAL STREAM of TELEVISION SHOWS (each with like hundreds of episodes and each of which is progressively worse than the previous show, though the fanboys won't admit this because special effects and "deep" shit like "OMG there's a shapeshifter who feels left out!" are more important to them than, say, actual good writing). and Trek, too, has novels, games, comics, and other assorted peraphernelia.

So you see, Star Trek fans are more geeky simply because there's more to be geeky WITH ^__^.

Trek fans tend to be more...stubborn about their show than most people. Too many of them refuse to admit that what is currently being put out by Paramount SUCKS because it's Trek. I'm a HUGE Trek fan, however I consider it dead after DS9 went off. Voyager and Enterprise were train wrecks, but there are many people who would yell at me and stomp their feet merely because I'm daring to bad mouth ST. I've written to Paramount to tell them how much the current Trek franchise sucks. Thankfully enough people have turned away to get them to kill Enterprise...

It used to be cool to like Star Wars. It didn't have the same geek stigma that Trek had. I remember a Trekkie telling me that I was insane to be a Star Wars fan, citing the fact that it's "only three movies", and Trek is six movies (more now) and spans several series.

But now that all the Star Trek series have finally been cancelled, the same people who called Star Wars crap have latched onto the prequels, putting down their phasers and picking up a lightsaber, intermingling with those of the pure faith. And now to most people, Star Wars is practically synonymous with Trek: A bunch of dorks in burlap costumes doing the Jedi mind trick and giving the Vulcan neck pinch.

And Lord of the Rings is soon turning into the same thing.

But I'm not bitter.

Me neither.

Trek may be a geek thing, but the original series and first six movies are still great entertainment.

I had this list of "Why Star Wars kicks Star Trek's ass", it was so funny...

And yes, I don't like Star Trek. Never did. I watched some episodes from the original series, I've seen the pilot episode, and I've seen the first movie and the "whales" movie... So I know why I hate it.

Star Trek won't improve until some good minds get behind the production. As long as Brennon and Braga are running it into the ground, it will retain the geek stigma. Was anyone frowned upon for liking StarTrek when Best of Both Worlds was coming in over the broadcast airwaves? No. The Borg ruled then. They were the first real threat to the Feds since the Romulans of the TOS...

But then Voyager went in after Roddenbury's death and made them just another group of villains. *sigh*

I believe the Borg themselves were created after Roddenbury's death.

Rodden Bury died in 1991, correct? The Borg were created in season two which aired during 1988.

To be honest, although I personally watched and liked TNG, I think it still had a bad geek stigma, Borg or no borg. Deal with it, Star Trek is geeky. end of.

Being a long-time multi-genre loving self proclaimed geek myself, I often call people out on many different aspects of fandom. What do I mean? Well, other than "in-fighting" (IE: SW vs ST) among geeks, who is it that general gives us the snickers, etc? The so-called 'normal'people? Mainly, yes. But compare the number of SW fans, ST fans, Dungeons & Dragons fans, comic book fans, video game fans to... football fans? baseball fans?

Just TRY and tell me football (the American variety but it applies to football abroad as well) fans do not meet the criteria that are lumped upon us that define us as geeks! Look at the merchadise, the costumes they wear at games, the fierce devotion!

I'm not saying they're mutually exclusive either. SW fans can love football too, just as some Trek fans love Stargate or SW or baseball or Sailor Moon or Rob Zombie or... well, you get the idea.

We're just one big happy geek family and we shouldn't pick on each other! C'mon- group hug!!

(eewwwwwww... lol)

But back to topic.....

Apparently the need for sex, group hugs, and crossgenre tolerance amongst geeks.

At least that's what I'm getting out of it.

And here I thought scifi geeks never got laid. Hence why they're always lusting for either Slave Leia or Seven of Nine (or a menage a trois involving both).

All this time, I've been a regular Casanova and not taking advantage of the opportunities laid out before me. Sheesh!

You can have your lust and eat it too, or something like that!

Geez Bossk... If I had known you back in the day I would have hooked you up! The trick- always hang around someone geekier than you... that way you seem tame by comparison!

I tried that, man. But I always wound up with nothing but pity because of my choice of "friends." Then, girls only wanted to be friends with me. Sniffle.
