Harmy’s Despecialized Intro on youtube has been blocked by Fox. It appears the audio on his Empire 2.5 comparison video has been blocked as well.

Sorry for the most-likely redundant question, but I’m about a year out of the loop on Despecialized. What is Harmy’s plan? I remember after 2.5 of Jedi he said that he’d get Empire to 2.5 (which I know is what’s happening now), and I seem to recall there being a potential update to Star Wars before the 3.0. Is that right or was that plan discarded?

Thanks again to Harmy and all those who help with these. The despecialized editions are a gift. From about 2005 until 2014 when I joined I can count on one hand the number of times I watched Star Wars (I refused to watch the SEs), and now it’s at least twice a year with the Harmy editions.

Only twice a year? Come on, son! Step up your game.
😃

I have heard that Harmy’s plan is to make 3.0 1080p using the 35mm print scan, but I could be misremembering.

Try muxing to an m2ts instead (tsMuxer is the easy option here). But be warned, it’ll be sluggish as heck - Premiere doesn’t handle h.264 all that well. You’d be better off converting to lossless (e.g. Lagarith) for anything serious.

That or just demux it using tsmuxer.

It depends entirely on your system, but you’re right that it doesn’t handle it nearly as well as a lossless file. H264 isn’t too terrible in Premiere if it’s only 720p, at least for me.

OK I have tsmuxer and MKVExtractGUI and MKVToolnixGUI. I imported MKVExtractGUI into Toolnix and used it to extract the MKV file of Empire Despecialized. Am I on the right path so far and what steps do I take next?

Thanks again for your help guys!

I haven’t used mkvtoolnix to demux MKVs, only to make them. But, assuming it worked (as tsmuxer does), you should be left with a 264 video stream. Just import that directly.

Thanks towne, I’m going to try it now.

I heard about that. I think that is the plan for 3.0, but I remember Harmy saying that he considered updating SW a bit for a 2.8 release basically, and then he’d do them all in 1080p for the 3.0 versions.

Harmy, your “Introducing the Despecialized Editions and its Sources” video has been taken down by Fox recently. It must have been recently, because I’ve seen it in my recommended videos until just about a week or so ago.

There’s some intense speculation going on about that in the General SW Discussion forum. I think we’ve nearly cracked the case.

i am trying to extract the archive downloaded from http://www.uloz.to for version 2.7. I am able to open the archive using harmy as the password, but i am unable to extract it- i get told it is not the right password for part1.part and i am unable to extract it. Someone else mentioned the problem in here too, but i didn;t see a solution…

Okay all of them have one zip that wont extract and it is just a subtitle file.

The grindhouse one, however, is only subtitles and nothing else.

Well, that sucks.
Not sure if I should file a dispute, because while I do believe that the use of the footage in the video is fair use, I don’t wanna drag too much legal attention to the project itself 😕

Yeah, probably not worth poking.
Interesting that another upload is still out there 😕

So the question is, why is the other video still surviving? Music recognition algorithm hit on the one that’s down, and no music hit on the one that’s up? I don’t recall if the other video has the music in it or not. I’m guessing it does not. And it seems like both videos would be down if it were a video data hit.

The video that got taken down had three parts:

  1. the first half mostly different from the one that is still up
  2. interview with Harmy in the middle
  3. the back end same as the one that is still up

So either whatever was in the first half of the video got picked up by an algorithm, or someone saw one video and reported it and hasn’t seen the other one.

Kind of related to that second possibility is the fact that video was kind of going viral in the last week. In 18 months it had 600,000 views and 13,000-14,000 likes, then a week later it was around 850,000 views and almost 20,000 likes.

Thank God I downloaded the video with a YouTube downloader before being taken down.

And I’ve loved every pixel of it.

I’d bet Harmy would not mind sharing it anyway.

Maxed out my line here. I was getting 15.9 MB/s. Didn’t even take 1:40 to complete. 😃 Thanks, Harmy!

Smart move. The documentary’s awesome, but not worth sacrificing the Despecialized Editions. Thank you for sharing the download link 😃

Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you to Harmy et al for putting these together. I’ve not seen the OT in years after patiently waiting for acceptable versions to be released as I refuse to watch the SE after seeing them in theatre. Next step will be to burn them to disc, but it’s been far too long since I’d seen these movies… I was beginning to wonder if I would ever watch them again or whether I would forever have to rely on my memory. Thanks to all involved again.

Hello.

First, thanks for the job.

I want to add japanese subtitles on the despecialized version of Star Wars.
I only have the blu-ray box with episode 1 to 6, I extracted the .sup file from épisode IV, but now, how to resync the sub (without using OCR to make SRT, etc.).

I would like to work directly on the .sup file if possible, and resync it with the ones in the AVCHD version of Despecialized.

For now, they sudenly desync like 2 or 3 seconds after Luke goes looking for Obiwan. There must be length difference in the scenes, I don’t know that much.

By the way, if these subs are needed for the project, I’m OK to rip’m all from blu-ray.

Thank you.

Hi, small question about the uloz.to method of downloading from the Facebook page pinned post. It looks like episode IV is available in version 2.7 (which I downloaded following the instructions) but could not find version 2.7 of episode V and VI. (I could only find version 2.0 of episode V and version 2.5 of episode VI on uloz.to)

Will the episodes V and VI version 2.7 and eventually version 3.0 be released on the downloading site?

Where else can I download version 2.7 or eventually version 3.0 as a torrent? I could use a myspleen invite maybe?

This project is incredible and thank you!
