^Sounds like we have very similar ideas. I’d be interested in seeing your draft. What are your extensive changes to Rey’s vision? What is the source of your Hux speech queue? I used some music from The Force Unleashed. I thought I had all the available Force Awakens queues. I’m unaware of an alternate for Hux’s speech.

The JWFan forums are a haven for unreleased music. I’ve had it downloaded for ages so I can’t locate the original source off the top of my head but I’ll see if I can find the thread where I found the clean copy.

The cue and the scene have been put together by a very clever person here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/jiql72jh7bppy3g/TFA - Parade Grounds (Score Restore).mp4?dl=0 - and I’ll be aiming to hit the same timings.

With Rey’s vision, I feel like it needs more clarity and it’s just a bunch of stuff really rather than any kind of meaningful information. After the novelty has worn off and you watch it a second time, it doesn’t tell the viewer anything at all. I think it would be better used a recap or introduction to new fans - so I’m going to edit in some clips from previous films as if Rey is seeing them, and I’m going to try putting Luke’s narration from teaser 2 over some of it, I’m just trying that though as it may be too cheesy.

Random question - at any point does Leia say the word “you”? I need it to be able to change “bring him home” into “bring you home” (I’m editing that line into a new line altogether).

^when she’s talking to Finn when she first meets him.

To Han in the same scene you are talking about, “you still drive me crazy”

I believe she also says you when talking to Han right before Ren’s interrogation of Rey.

  • Cutting the Han/Ben reveal in the first Snoke scene and saving it for the Han/Ben showdown. I feel very strongly about this, and it would add a whole new level of drama to Han’s last scene - “BEN!” can be the wham line where the penny drops for the audience - and it would also add some texture and rewatch factor to the film. This means I also have to tweak a few other lines throughout the movie, and the one major re-think I have to do is Han and Leia’s interactions on D’Qar. I’ve come up with an idea of how to put “bring him home” to an entirely new purpose though!

I think it would be fine to leave in “bring him home”. It might serve to build suspense, and make the audience wonder what it means until it’s finally revealed who Kylo is.

Overall I liked the story. There are just few changes I would like to see. Not sure they can be done through editing.

  1. Han should ask how he didn’t know about the power of the bowcaster or should not acted surprised.
  2. TR8R stormtrooper should be changed to Captain Phasma.
  3. Starkiller base:
    A) the beam should go into hyperspace
    B) the beam should cause stars to go supernova not destroy planets
    C) only the star going supernova should be visible in the skies tokodana.
  4. Rey should be captured by Phasma and rescued by Finn.
  5. Finn should have used Phasma’s hands to bring down the shields.
  6. The attack on the thermal oscillator by the x-wings should fail.
  7. the explosives set off by chewbacca should blow the Oscillator.
In addition to many of the changes I read these would be good in my opinion.

This is practically what happens in the film already.

Nah, it’s all CGI.

Mostly: but I mean completely. The final run by Poe should be cut. The blast of the oscillator should happen pretty much right after Chewbacca hits the switch.

Well I am thinking a cut right after they leave that shows the entire oscillator blows.

I have been wanting to try recutting the duel between Kylo and Finn so that Kylo instantly goes on the offensive, and never gets hit by Finn, and the duel would basically become a one sided ass beating that gets handed to Finn like you would logically expect it to be. I’m relatively pleased with the result and am curious if you guys find it effective at all:

Very good. It makes sense. Even if Ren is wounded I’ve never bought that Finn could be good enough with a lightaber to hurt a long time force user.

This is really good and makes total sense. Finn is shown to poorly use the lightsaber against a lowly stormtrooper he should never hold his own with Kylo.

Yep, direcly on my “Episode VII edit wishlist”. Now, I wonder if the same edit is needed for Finn’s first saber fight with the “traitor!” trooper. A simple trooper is no dark side user, so I would leave the theatrical version as it is for that part.

Given that we are not shown more footage of Finn being bad ass this must be the appropriate edit. The down side to this is that if Finn were to have a Force user arch this edit does diminish him. JJ just left us with so little information…

I personally don’t think this is wise. Going into the fight, we know Ren is a powerful force user and Finn, while trained in melee combat, is not quite good enough to hold his own. So the fact that Finn will lose is a forgone conclusion, and the longer the fight is the more the tension of “is Finn going to die or just get seriously maimed” builds." And it lasts a while not because Finn is really doing all that well, only because Ren is toying with him. He’s too cocky and not factoring in that he’s wounded, and that’s how Finn gets a hit on him. But of course, once the happens, he’s all businesses and Finn is done. But showing that cockiness is important because it’s the same reason Rey is able to catch him off guard and eventually defeat him.

Is it possible to make Starkiller Base not a Death Star III? I’m sure people have already thought of this, but is it possible?

  1. Distinguish the Starkiller from the Death Stars. I think this shouldn’t be too difficult. It’s name is “star” + “killer” after all, and besides a reference to early Star Wars concepts/Luke’s original last name, it could easily be changed to a weapon much like the Centerpoint Station of the old EU, which was stationary but fired a powerful beam at distant stars and caused them to supernova. I imagine a little technical wizardry could easily fire that beam at a star instead of the planet, cause a supernova (witnessed from the ground of Hosnian Prime), and have the supernova destroy the system. Meanwhile, remove our heroes actually witnessing this from Takdona.

So someone (definitely not me) edited this idea before TFA came out on BD/DVD. This individual used a bootleg, it is obvious, but has most certainly purchased the BD since. I believe the individual was afraid to share this idea due to it being made from a bootleg, but he reassures me he pre-ordered the BD from Amazon which arrived on the official release day. He hopes the fact that he did not feel like re-editing this with good footage will not cause a problem. This is just to pose an interesting idea.

Did I mention this is not me?

Could you tell to your ‘‘definitely not me’’-contact that I liked his idea and attempt with bootleg material? 😉

I don’t really care if it’s in the shape of a movie, or a cartoon tv-series, or if it’s on videogames and books. Neither if it’s canon or legends; I love all my Star Wars (yes, even the prequels).

“Laugh it up, Fuzz ball.”

Oh wait, no, not all of it, don’t count the Holiday Special on it.

I passed it along, and he said, “Gee, golly! Thanks, Mr. Valorum!” 😉

Just reigniting an old thread here. Since we’ve found that threepio’s red arm has been rendered completely irrelevant, I suggest removing it entirely.

Before:

After:

Now this was done in photoshop and would be more difficult to do in after effects, but if I take on a TFA edit (which the more I think about it, the more it looks like I might) I will definitely be seeing if it’s a practical change to instate.

Author

I really want to see the opposite done (even though it’d surely be more work).

I don’t get why C3PO has a gold arm in TLJ. Did they somehow forget? 3PO makes a huge fuss about it, strange they didn’t think the audience wouldn’t pick up on the change.
