If you don’t remember, the movie starts with Star Destroyer chasing and shooting Tantive IV and then captures it, so I’m sure anyone who is inside isn’t waiting for a welcome party at the door, were they rebels or not.
No shit. But it’s the same situation. They were running away. And it’s not hard to imagine the Tantive shooting first. The Imperials had no reason to destroy the Tantive when their plan was to board it.
It is like trying to run away from cost guard when they try to inspect your boat.
You would too if you knew that they would kill you if they caught you. Lets not forget that the Empire knows that the plans are on board. There’s no way the crew would get away peacefully even if they handed the plans to Vader’s own hands.
