I’ve really enjoyed these since I downloaded them and burned them, but I’ve had some developments with the playback that I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on.
I played back the first disk that I burned successfully, and it looked great. I used my less than a year old samsung tv, hooked to my PC via HDMI. I used VLC and played the disk in my PC’s Bluyray drive. All good. Then I put the same disk in my PS4, and it looked pretty bad. Lots of noise, and the colors were garish. Same disk, same TV.
Digging around, I finally looked at the resolution, and saw that my PS4 resolution was set to “automatic”. I figured that would be OK, but when I manually changed it to 720p, the picture was perfect. So I guess playing 720p media at 1080p looks bad, and that’s what my PS4 was doing?
So what I’m wondering is whether or not there is something on disks themselves that is supposed to tell the PS4 what resolution it should output at, or if it’s just determined by the TV it’s hooked to. Does the PS4 (and other stand-alone players) just assume that any bluray will be 1080p? I’ve got this to where I’m watching them fine, but I’m curious how much tinkering they will take to look good if I try to take them over to someone’s house to play or something.
Any thoughts on this from you guys would be an education for me. I’ve learned a ton through the burning process so far, and anything else you guys can add would be much appreciated!
