They were running away.
No shit.
And it’s not hard to imagine the Tantive shooting first.
What would be the point to start shooting a Star Destroyer that is like a hundred times bigger than their ship, especially when the last thing they would want is more attention to themselves.
The Imperials had no reason to destroy the Tantive when their plan was to board it.
No shit. And that’s probably the reason the Star Destroyer started shooting Tantive IV to disable it and not the other way around. And they did.
Leia was lying through her teeth.
No shit, I haven’t said anything about Leia. I was responding to imperialscum’s post which also didn’t concern Leia, so don’t know what the fuck are you talking about. I was making a point that even if they would allow “the coast guard to check their boat”, this coast guard would still not let them leave even if the Tantive IV crew didn’t shoot anybody, because a) the Empire knew the plans were on board and b) Vader wanted to interrogate Leia about their base.
There’s no reason an Imperial consular ship housing an Imperial senator would have its troops start shooting at boarding Imperials unless they were willing to out themselves as rebels.
Stormtroopers shot first after they blew their door. I’d say many people would shoot guys who shoot you first in a galaxy, wheather you’re a rebel or not. I don’t disagree here, but the matters aren’t that black and white. If the Empire disabled let’s say the Falcon and blew it’s door open and Han started shooting stormtroopers, that doesn’t make him a member of the Alliance yet.
I doubt the stormtroopers would have started shooting everyone if they were greeted by a welcome party.
Too late for that after the space battle, don’t you think.
To the original question, to my knowledge, the Tantive IV crew has always been referred to rebel fleet troopers and I also have thought that they were rebels. Of course, no one would want to admit that to the Imperials if you were a rebel but that goes without saying.
