Probably jumping the gun here, but if LF/2oth C. Fox do indeed plan on a home video release of the OT this year (edit: OUT or otherwise–the latter would be valuable for preservation efforts), what are the chances it will be available in the UHD BD format? I know Disney doesn’t yet support the format, but Fox seems to be pushing it pretty hard (especially with the sci-fi/action genre). As this would be a “distributed by 2oth C. Fox” release, might we see it released in 4K for home media?

Maybe, but I hope that the OUT won’t be only available on 4K UHD discs. I don’t have a player.

EDIT: OUT aside, if Fox wants Star Wars to be a format-seller, then that might prompt them to be more willing to play ball with Disney regarding the rights to the Original Trilogy. They lose Empire and Jedi pretty soon, and having rights to the original Star Wars in perpetuity is nice, but not as worth it as you might think without the rights to distribute any of the others. Since Fox has to get what they distribute from Lucasfilm (owned by Disney), then they’ll have to get the new product from them; that’s most likely why all re-releases of the OT have been lame reskins of the 2011 copies. Maybe working out something favorable in the long run to Disney will help Fox maximize whatever time is left for them to profit off of Star Wars. This would be good news regarding the OUT because it gives us the films with the Fox Fanfare at the beginning, which was also on the 4K restoration Gareth Edwards saw. (He mentioned it.)
