Info: Interest in DVD Trading Anyone?

Author

 (Edited)

Hello everyone,

I just stumbled onto this website and whoa I’ve hit the motherload. I’ve been trading fan authored DVD-Rs of Star Wars and Non-Star Wars related material for quite some time. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trading via snail mail. Bittorrents take too long and hog up too much bandwidth IMHO. Here’s a link to my list of DVD-Rs up for trade.

Jay’s DVD-R Trading Page

One last thing, I would like to thank each and every person who has dedicated their time and efforts to make the best possible DVD-Rs of the OT and especially for making them readily available for free or almost free. Just goes to show, Star Wars Fans are the greatest.

Due to high costs of media, mailing costs, maintenance to this website and to my equipment, I will now accept donations through Paypal to help keep this site up and running. For every $10.00 donation made, I will give you 1 DVD title of your choice absolutely free of charge, I will even ship it to you for free. For Non-US residents I will give you 1 DVD choice for every $15.00 donation (American currency). Email me for more details

SO, you'll use these donations to keep your site updated right then what about this

Well do the math, CD-Rs are around .25 cents a piece, where DVD+Rs are still around $2.00 each. Plus, as of this writing you can burn a 700MB CD-R at 52X max where DVD+Rs burn 4GB at around 4X if you're lucky.

Now, Dude I understand the need for a small fee but your prices are kinda WAY out of DATE man-

First, I get DVD's for as low as $0.19 cents a disc for ApexPro's (1 bad burn in 7) or even Taiyo Yuden (THE BEST OF THE BEST) for as low as $0.65 cents a disc so that $2.00 a DVD is kinda WAY out there man. (forgot to update huh)

Second, recordable DVD media can routinely now be burned at 16x (and for only $0.68 each disc)

Third, Can I download some of these of the net from you for free?

Fourth, You would seem to support bootlegging as you have links to buy illegal movies direct shrunk copies of retail titles (movies still in the theater even!)

Last thing dude, There are a lot of younger members on this site kinda like my cousin ~ who is 14 years old (she is a sick STAR WARS fan man!) and when she's over she browses these very forums YET, I noticed on your website that you promote pornography

- that is not EVEN cool dude.

To answer some of your questions:

1. Yes the prices do need updated, as does the entire website. (I've only been updating my DVD-R lists and that hasn't been updated since February) The pricing reflects what DVD-Rs cost about 2 years ago, still I have only managed to find quality name brand DVD-Rs for around $1.00 a piece or slightly cheaper if they're on sale. (never heard of the brands you use, 1 in 7 bad burns, that kind of sucks DUDE) The little equation I had was simply if you wanted to trade CD-Rs for my DVD-Rs, the price ratio is pretty much the same. But that has nothing to do with the donations or selling my DVD-Rs, that's only for the number of CD-Rs to DVD-R trade. Make sense?

2. Can you download them for free? Sure, I've never done it before, and until I found this website, I never traded that way, it was allways through snail mail. Didn't even think to host torrents. I may do that with my Night Flight DVDs eventually since they're a hot item. Torrents are still new to me, just started using them in December, until then, everything I've acquired has been my own creations or trading via snail mail. I don't claim any rights to any of my DVDs so if anyone trades with me and would like to host torrents, feel free.

3. Yeah I support bootlegging, isn't that what we're doing here or did some of us acquire licensing from Lucasfilm? I don't have any commercially available DVDs on my site unless it was something that was previously unavailble and I just haven't updated it yet. Only acception is the adult stuff which is not for sale (nothing is for sale technically) or donations. I can't police everyone's website, I know that the only 2 links I have are to good reliable traders who don't rip people off. Both have titles for sale or list their entire collection commercial dvds as well, but I don't buy from them and only trade for their RARE and or Authored DVDS. Ebay is a great source for RARE dvds but I rarely buy dvds there, I contact the sellers to see if they're interested in setting up a trade.

3. In regards to the adult dvds, first the link states that you must be 18 to trade, second it says, they're not for donations, third, I only trade for other adult titles from traders I know are 18 years of age or older, NO ACCEPTIONS. And finally, if you checked out the list you would see that it's pretty tame just incase prying eyes check it out. There are no pics and most of the titles have been censored. That portion is PG to PG-13 at worst. Hey isn't ROTS going to be PG-13?

I don't believe in selling DVDs for a profit, the donation is merely an option that people rarely use. Some people want dvds and have nothing to trade, the $10.00 donation covers cost of media, shipping, ink for labels and paper sleeves or cases, time and cost to drive to the post office, and wear and tear on my equiptment. I've gone through 3 DVD recorders, the first cost me over $350.00. I have never made a penny on this nor have I wanted to, haven't even come close to recouping my costs, but the $10.00 donations help out to keep my trading going and keep the website up.

And besides, I posted here asking to TRADE, made no mention of selling DVDs. And wouldn't think that anyone here would need to make a donation as I have none of these DVDs that you all have acquired.

I could make a fortune on ebay or other resources selling some of my Rare and somewhat exclusive titles but I chose not to because I don't feel that's right and it certainly isn't legal.

Hope these answers are to your satisfaction DUDE.

I do agree with what The Maker says and appreciate your comments in return.

Things around here are VERY relaxed and informal and most people are very willing to help out others to find what they are looking for.

One to one trades, helping out the people who are doing the projects, helping out those who post the torrents or on newsgroups, helping out newcomers etc are more the norm than strict trade guidlines. PM's and e-mail are the best way to go here.

"3. Yeah I support bootlegging, isn't that what we're doing here or did some of us acquire licensing from Lucasfilm?"

In a way, yes. According to Lucas, the DVDs we are putting out are based on a version that doesn't exist anymore. He's washed his hands of them.

That's what I was intending on doing, one to one trades. I didn't post on here in hopes to increase my donations. I just wanted to trade some DVDs with some fellow Star Wars Fans. I prefer snail mail over torrents. Besides, in a trade both parties get something in return, I think it's awesome that people are setting up torrents for dvds they spend countless hrs creating but I think they deserve something in return. I could just download torrents but that doesn't seem fair.

I find it ironic that someone jumps my case because he doesn't like the content on my website and doesn't think it's cool to accept donations. But there are people on here that are Selling or taking the same amount of money for their DVDs. I author quite a few of my DVDs as well, although I probably don't spend as much time authoring them as some, but that's just because I have limited skills doing so. So I ask, what's the difference between me asking for donations AS A LAST RESORT IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO TRADE, or someone on here that's selling their DVD-rs?

But I guess since people seem to have a problem with trading, then I'll just get the torrents. Geesh!

Don't worry - trading is not discouraged here. I think you'll find that the overall mindset here is about getting the best version of Star Wars-based material to as many fans as possible. We welcome any and all contributors.

BTW, I notice you have a great deal of material on VHS. Are you unable to convert this to MPEG/DVD?

I think I speak for many when I say that there are many items on your current VHS listings that are of interest to people around here.......

The Star Tours material is of particular interest to me as a reminder of my trip to Florida back in '92.

First things first, I suggest that you open up your PM's.

Secondly, you need to know what Laser Disc transfer you have. Lookout for a website that tells you how to work out what you currently have. You probably have an existing known version.

Thirdly, if your original link was only to a "My Star Wars Collection" page, without all the other stuff, folk would be much happier. Plus the fact that the current link breaks many forum rules and may just get removed anyway!!!

I was actually just thinking about posting a new thread on what to convert. I have over 20 VHS tapes packed with Star Wars stuff and I'm just looking for an excuse to get them on DVD, I've really kind of been lazy about getting my tapes converted, I have TONS. Like all the extended versions of the Superman movies. But anyway, perhaps I could get some help doing it. (converting the Star Wars stuff that is) I have no problems loaning my tapes out to people with much better technical know-how on DVD authoring. I have a laserdisk player, betamax player, vhs, and DVD player of course so I can convert almost any source to mpeg, it's just applying all the filters and such. And I'm not doing something right when it comes to the audio portion. I have to turn my surround sound to Analog to get any sound once I make my dvds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But I guess that's all for another thread. Time to post a new topic.

Well, I'll be on vacation this month, so if there's two or three things you are dying to get on DVD, let me know.

BTW, Rikter and ReverandBeastly, I'll be finishing your stuff soon as well.

I tell you what, since you're willing to help me out, you can choose whatever you want to convert. Some of the quality isn't that great but still fairly rare and worth watching. Thanks for offering up your services, I greatly appreciate it.

Well, I noticed a lot of your compilations are on SLP mode, and that's not good - not to mention the wear and tear of making copies. I'll make a short list for you, but if you have some favorites, let me know.

I'll even "trade" you my earlier transfer - which will soon be eclipsed by my new transfer.

I put my hand up to answer that question.

It started life as a simple notepad list of the various OT versions available out there in the big bad world.

I then expanded the list into a html page on my own PC with the menu screenshots for my own use.

Prompted by the number of "What version" posts here, I then expanded to what you see now and I expect it to expand even more in the future.

However, it would not exist without the help and input of a couple of other OT.com regulars and I thank them for their help, input and webspace.

Simple but effective I think.

Any other feedback is appreciated........

You know, I didn't think that sounded like you in that post. Now the "Al" makes sense. You really need to make him create his own account. (or at least turn off the Automatic Password feature. )

For all the fans out there here is my trade list -

Just email me for any trades!

Here are the details....

I can provide you with FREE DOWNLOAD LINKS for most of my titles via BitTorrent.

All titles that I share are either known to be Fan created Preservation efforts, Fan created edits, OUT-OF-PRINT titles or titles that are not YET available on any "Official" currently produced DVD, Laserdisc or VHS release. I will not offer any titles that are copies of available "Official" DVD's via torrent or trade - these titles can and will be removed once any "Official" and "UNALTERED" DVD or other RETAIL version is made available to the general public.

PLEASE purchase or acquire via trade any OFFICIAL copies of these titles when possible (i.e. Laserdisc, VHS, CED or DVD) please don't support piracy!

These discs listed here are not intended for profit but strictly for the PRESERVATION of these very rare and unique titles - this is for the fans. MANY fans have suffered in the creation of these discs (me included) and it is very disturbing to see profiteers selling these DVD’s - I have posted most of these titles on the internet for free downloads via Newsgroups, P2P services like Kazaa and the BitTorrents and I will continue to do so for other fans as long as possible.

Please promise to copy these discs as many times as you can and give/trade copies to EVERY fan you know If you have downloaded a torrent file PLEASE keep the seed going for as long as possible! This helps prevent the Darkside Dealers (eBay/comic shop sellers) from selling copies of these fan created DVD’s for $10-$200 Help others achieve their collecting goals for the sake of the hobby, not profit - Any “Angrysun” or any of these Releases found being sold for profit on any online auctions like eBay or on websites is not acceptable and will not be tolerated - I will report any auctions and sites found selling ANY “Angrysun” Releases for profit.

Thanks for your support.

Some questions:

Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3D (need Special glasses to view)

Where did this DVD came from? I mean, is taken from a VHS screener or what? Quality?

Howard The Duck import from Hong Kong with Dolby surround sound

Quality of this one?

Hey Rik, your list never stops growing!

By the way, this is a question for you all: Is there any decent version of the Star Tours? I would love to own a high quality version of this, maybe taken directly from the laserdisc (last time I heard, the attraction used laserdisc as image source instead movie reel).

As far as I know, the only part of that ride that uses laserdisc is the screen off to the right, where the X-wing pilot's face comes up
The Original Trilogy - The “Spider” Edition
Set-top DVD Recorder transfer
I WILL NOT TRADE

Do people even request this transfer?

In the meantime, for those of you interested in reliving the ride: Here's a close fascimile

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

AFAIK, the only 3-d release of Friday the 13th part 3 was on the obscure VHD videodisc format in Japan. It had an attachment to control LCD shutter glasses to view the movie in 3-d.
You can learn more about VHD here.

There was a Laserdisc pressing of Howard the Duck in HK, but it's probably fullframe like the old US disc.

It's an ASIAN bootleg - someone named “Kristhemovieman” claims to have created this DVD then he sent it to the Chianese Bootleggers to have them PRESS the DVD's Check this Bootleg page here
