I watched SW as soon as I came home from R1… I hope in the near future, some theaters choose to do that double feature.
Oh yeah, I just realized I should add the Onderon arc to my Rogue One prep. The debut appearance of Saw Gerrera.
It’s season five of the Clone Wars episodes 2-5. Available on Netflix.

Oh good plan. It’s a good arc too.

I just finished watching SW.
And I have to say… it felt so fantastically weird to see the opening crawl about rebels taking their first victory against the Empire, the same crawl I’ve been reading for 20 years, and now I was like “hey, I saw that victory yesterday!”. And then, after the two hours of action and what happened at the end of R1 the first half of SW had a very calming feeling after the battle instead of feeling like a slow start. Also the galaxy felt even more massive than before. Watching SW now didn’t feel like watching it for the first time but it did feel completely different than ever before. And only in a positive way, for me.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I thought Rogue 1 wasn’t going to have the opening crawl?

it didn’t. The posts above are talking at the ANH crawl being funny after just having seen R1.
oh, ok.
So I guess r1 turned out good then. I thought I heard it wasn’t screening for critics so I was worried it didn’t turn out good.

Well, I liked it.

First-Timers:
OT
TFA/R1 (with those two, either order is fine)

sounds about right.
My girlfriend had never seen any other Star Wars movie before. We saw Rogue One last night. It confused the **** out of her. But, at least she’ll have some kind of context when she picks up the story with ANH.
So I guess we’ll try this order:
Rogue One
Star Wars/ANH
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
…and that’s it!
I suppose the suprise Darth Vader appearence don’t have much explaination in R1. So if it’s your first film then it could be confusing.
I think in light of Rogue One the release order is the best way to go. Definitely start with the OT, the prequels are optional, then the Disney films.
I think we’re going as a family on Thursday… Do I make them watch Star Wars first, or do we watch it after Rogue One? My parents haven’t seen the OT in many years, but they seem interested in seeing Rogue One.

if they have seen ANH before, i would think it is fine to watch R1 first.
Yeah I would never show R1 to a rookie first. It’s a great film for the fans but newbies probably are just confused and/or not interested. I mean, it’s still fun and enjoyable but they would be asking “why”.

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about.
It’s been a long time since they’ve seen it, so will it make sense? Will I have to explain it?

Well the gf and I will watch Star Wars next. So I’ll relay the effect on someone who saw R1 and had no idea what was going on and then jumps into the OT.
I saw one dude whose girlfriend had never seen a Star Wars film before. Rogue One was her first and she was excited when told they could watch the sequel when they got home.

I hope they watched the Despecialized version. Although I’d still like to see a mostly original version that includes some vfx enhancements like the CGI shots on Battle of Yavin, Alderaan/Death Star explosions, just some things like that.

Not necessarily. I like a lot of Adywan’s work, but I think my preference is for more OOT with fewer changes. I just like the upgraded effects on the Falcon, the Alderaan and Death Star explosions, Yavin and Endor space battles, and maybe some of the work done on the windows and escort ships in Cloud City.
I’ve never been able to decide if I prefer Adywan’s Emperor hologram in ESB or the original, but I know that I really really hate the one Lucasfilm put in there to match with the prequels.

I can get that.
Ady’s version is probably as close as we’ll ever get to a well-done SE though. Hey, he should make a version where you can select the changes you want and whether you want them from his version or the SE or no changes… kinda a make-your-own Star Wars. <_<
