I remember hearing about that but I’d forgotten the source, so thank you for bringing it up.

The only other rumors we have to go on are John Landis’ story about talking to George and the report that Disney had requested a look at the LoC’s old print of Star Wars '77 (I forget who reported this).

The latter was “Vidiot”, who worked on the DVDs of the movies. I definitely believe him. What purpose they’d have for a digital copy of a Star Wars print is anyone’s guess. It’s more attention than the original versions have been given in a while, but for all we know Lucasfilm is just trying to consolidate all of its movies digitally. The one I’m referring to is a lot more vague than the Vidiot source, who is definitely trustworthy, and admittedly there is no real reason to put much stock in his claim other than that he is a regular on the Steve Hoffman forum and has been confident in the same story for a while. He isn’t the only guy on there that cites a supposed source within Disney/Fox/Lucasfilm regarding Star Wars.

Then there’s always Mike Verta, and who knows where he fits into all of this.
