Is the Leia hologram new for 2.7?

Nope.

Do you know how far back this version of the scene was used?

The Leia shots were pretty much all done for 2.0 as far as I know. 1.0 simply used the blu-ray footage. I didn’t upgrade any of them for 2.7. And in the first hologram scene, I didn’t end up changing anything at all, even color-wise. The color would have been changed in Obiwan’s hut, which pretty much had shot by shot color adjustments (with varying levels of success).

The timestamps you’ve used are definitely the ideal way to represent which shots you’re asking about. However, it can also be helpful to include screenshots to quickly demonstrate which shots you’re discussing. If you’re asking about some specific tearing or compositing issues, a screenshot perhaps with the area highlighted could help explain what you’re talking about.

The point is most likely moot, as the next time this is upgraded (3.0), Harmy won’t be using GOUT sources. So these shots will either be taken from 35mm entirely, or re-rotoscoped, using 35mm instead of GOUT.

Thanks for all the info. I don’t think screenshots will show what I’m talking about. It’s the motion which exposes the issue. I think the problem arises from the two sources weaving differently (the blu ray has quite a bit of weave at some points) and so the two sources are going in and out of alignment and this exposes where the rotoscoping edge is. Possibly a very feathered edge blending the two sources would’ve made it not so noticeable, but I have no experience with this kind of work, so I don’t know if that’s even an option.

The issue can be seen at those time stamps, but is most noticeable on the last one, which is as the hologram disappears. But like you said, it really doesn’t matter anyway as the next version will have it redone. I was mostly wondering if maybe it had been done differently in a past version. It just really stood out to me. To be fair, I was watching it on a 125" screen. But once I knew it was there, I could also plainly see it on my laptop screen when I was looking for it. Impressively, this was the only issue I noticed while watching on the big screen. Empire is up next.
