Just saw it for the second time, and I enjoyed it MUCH more this time. I was able to follow the story better, noticed a lot more details, and didn’t doze off.
I tried to pay attention to the score - came to the conclusion that it is OK, but not as good as previous Star Wars movies. Too bad, because I really was impressed with Giacchino after hearing the NPR interview, and wanted very much to like it. There just wasn’t much that I found memorable about it.
I stand by my previous assessment that the characters are very thin - especially Jyn. Her facial expressions all looked the same - like someone with too much plastic surgery (although I don’t mean to imply that that’s the cause). Again, the only character that seemed to me to elicit any real humanity was Baze Malbus.
The effects were even more stunning the second time, and Tarkin was even more convincing (although his voice didn’t sound at all like Cushing’s to me).
The first time I saw it in RPX 3D, the second time in XD 3D. Both were excellent, I’d give the edge to the RPX showing, although that could be because I was sitting closer. I’ll probably see it one more time while it’s still at the IMAX.
