So, I finally saw the darn thing last night, although conditions were not ideal. Still kind of digesting the whole thing, so random thoughts as they occur.

Tarkin is a real bastard in this, whether you accept the CGI or not. (It worked about half the time for me, as knowing it’s not really Peter Cushing makes you over scrutinize a tad.) He grabs the DS right out of Krennic’s hands the minute it’s proven to work. And blasting the data facility with who knows how many Imperial officers down there is pretty damn ruthless as well. Troopers probably being considered expendable anyway.

For all the fuss over the new TIE designs, they didn’t appear too much. I presume the death troopers were like Krennic’s personal guard, and were not very numerous. I think the speakers in their helmets were set to Darph Nader though. 😉

Several locations in the movie were giving me Dark Forces and Jedi Outcast flashbacks. Paging Kyle Katarn!

Dr. Evazan and Walrusman cameo was kind of gratuitous. And the not so good Doctor didn’t really look like himself. If this had been a prequel cameo, it might have worked, but this is like five minutes before the orignal film. I appreciated the less obvious cameos much more.

I think I’ve now seen the greatest space battle scene in a Star Wars film ever. Pushing the crippled Star Destroyer into the gate thingy was just inspired. How Episode 8 is going to top this, I can’t imagine. The bar has been raised really high.

Not enough Moroff. Nowhere near enough Moroff. I need more Moroff! I hope he got out before everything went boom, but I fear the worst.
