I’ve been asked about the condition of the German print and if it is salvageable.
I did have some of it scanned, even though I couldn’t get it cleaned. I’m uploading a few seconds of how it looks mixed in with how it looks with a very basic restoration done to it, as a quick test of how much work would be required.
The print is very red, but it looks like a reasonable colour balance could still be achieved, it is quite battered and dirty, but a lot of that can be worked around.

A very quick sample, with some basic adjustments can be grabbed here:

Do I understand correctly that the German print will primarily be used to replace damaged shots from the UK print?

That sample looked quite impressive.

I am impressed how well that cleans up!

Hello everyone.

This is my first post and just want to say thanks that you are doing this.
I saw ANH-ESB-ROTJ at the cinemas as a kid and just cant watch any of the editions
that have been modified from there original release.
I own the Definitive Laserdisc Collection and trying to watch them on todays TVs are just painfull.
So the restoration job your doing is the best .
Keep up the great work.

Incredible. I never cease to be amazed at the colour you are able to salvage from these red prints.

Glad to hear about your daughter. Hoping she has a good new year and 2017.

As for the German print, it would be cool if it could fill in the holes in the other one. I don’t know where you get them scanned, but they can sure recover a hell of a lot.

Fantastic news about your daughter, Poita. Wishing you and your family a very peaceful Christmas and new year!
If it’s not a silly question, you say the print that was linked to from eBay a page or so ago has been scanned - wouldn’t it produce more colour than your current two options, as it seems to be only slightly faded? From what you’ve posted so far, it doesn’t feel like much colour is missing, even when the two prints appear entirely red. But perhaps the above print has even more information?

That print is not quite as the seller has described it, to say the least.
