He did grab me by the pussy once, but to be fair he was drunk and I was pretending.
I had the 20GB mkv before and it played fine, but the AVCHDs are encoded in some peculiar way such that they’re impossible to remux into a matroska container and play successfully. High cpu usage and long delays are common on the players I’ve tried, that’s if it even plays at all. The m2ts files will play on MPC if I have HW acceleration enabled so I have to leave them in that format.
I have re-encoded all 3 Harmy projects from AVCHD to .MKV with a variety of subs and
audio tracks, never had any problem. I used: mkvmerge v8.2.0 (‘World of Adventure’) 64bit
Early on I had one little hang up, when mounting a image with DAEMON Tools, VLC would not
simply play the disc, but would play the BDMV folder inside. Other players can simply play the image as is.

I hope they finally release the original versions it would be a great way to celebrate 40 years of Star Wars, the whole galaxy would rejoice and balance would return to the force once more, obviously there will be some sort of 40th anniversary edition but it may just be a 4K release of the current version, that being said I would hope it’s a whole new transfer I’d love to see new blu ray and 4K releases of the original cuts (actually I’d like 4K version of every film and maybe then they can just release new blu rays using the new masters from the 4K releas, hopefully that would solve the color issues)

If “2k” was the best they had at the time, we’re looking at either an upscaled version of whatever “2k” meant back then, or a full re-scan. Probably of the “special” edition.
I don’t have high hopes for a full re-scan of the actual original. It’s far more likely that they took whatever “2k” meant back then, which could be somewhere a little past that, and simply upscaled it using whatever means to make it look nice in that format.
Gareth Edwards said he saw a 4k scan of a print though. That could be a number of things, but I don’t think he would be referring to that 2k scan upscaled to 4k.

Only the shots with CG were scanned at 2k.
Sorry for the inexperienced questions here, but I followed HanDuet’s instructions and downloaded all Harmy’s .RAR files on tehPARADOX. I understand that I have to extract the first file, part 01 first, but the instructions were not clear if I have to continue extracting all of the other files or if the program will do that automatically.
I only extracted a couple of the files but I already have the entire movie. Each time I extract part 2 or part 3, it adds a new folder with an unreadable file, so it was really confusing me.

Depends on what program are you using, but most programs (if not all) should unpack it automatically.

with. It contains the info about ALL the other parts and will extract them. It will

Any idea what’s wrong? Confused why empires works, but the original star wars doesn’t? I extracted them both using 7-zip. I extracted the entire file.
You’re not supposed to play the RARs directly, you’re supposed to extract the media files inside the RARs (typically MKV files). A RAR is like a ZIP file, it’s just a container for other files. I’m guessing that because the Star Wars RAR filename includes the MKV extension, VLC can figure out more about the contents of Star Wars RAR than it can with Empire, and I guess that means it can play the RARs directly. But you don’t need to do it that way.
The pics you posted are not of the extracted archive!
It should look something like this:
Click on the 1st of those rar files, choose “extract"
browse to where you want the folder to go, then click
"ok”. You should have a new folder that looks like the
one pictured above.
The “Project Threepio” folder contains MANY more folders
and files you will never need to worry about unless you
want to add certain subtitles. All you need to to watch
the Film is the .MKV file!

Well, the ANH crawl version was released in theaters in 1981.

It’s not a theatrical reconstruction though, because the ANH version just had the SE crawl, color corrected.
The 2.6 release had an ANH alternative version that caught a lot of “shit talk” for not having the star positioning of 1981, despite being clearly described as a non preservation alternative, just for fun and by special request.
For this reason, and to avoid any confusion or people accidentally downloading it instead of SW, there was no real release of an ANH version of 2.7. A few people were given a link, but I don’t even think I have it now. One person, of course, made a DVD version from that. 😃
But yes, the majority of people who said anything about it, as above, spoke out against it for not being the 1977 version. The others spoke about it for not being 1981 accurate, which of course is true. 2 or 3 people, I think, wanted it despite this.
