Would you consider Blade Runner to be under-rated?

Haha, I was actually going to bring up Blade Runner, Sessler. Good call! However, I don't necessarily see it as being underrated. It's generally thought of as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time, and it'd be my personal favorite if not for Star Wars.

Well, alot of people that I know have never even heard of it and if they have they say "oh, the boring movie with Indiana Jones?"

People these days wouldn't know good cinema if it came up to them and kicked them in the crotch.

Huuhhhhh....GOD. Only sf movie I've ever fallen asleep during. Second only to Plan 9 from Outter Space in terms of worst ever made, IMO

Another SF film I consider to be under-rated is Star Trek III. People often say it is one of the worst Star Trek movies, I say it is one the better Star Trek movies.

Well it looks as if I OVERRATED Equilibrium. I agree about the emotion stuff, but despite that I found it a powerful commentary on the dangers of a "utopia". And the action wasn't bad either. I still like it better than the Matrix; especially the lack of two horrible sequels.

Yeah, the whole notion of the odd-numbered Star Trek films being bad and the even ones being good is flawed. Sure 1 was a bit sub-par, but the Director's Edition DVD is a vast improvement. 3 is awesome and my personal favorite of the bunch. 5, again, was a little weak, but Shatner got screwed over by the studio who wanted to keep things cheap. The Final Frontier is probably the most underrated of the Trek films, as it actually is closer to the spirit of the original series than any of the other movies. Generations is alright, but they botched Kirk's death and the premise of the Nexus horribly. Insurrection was a disaster. That said, all the even-numbered films up to Nemesis were indeed excellent.

Some people consider the trilogy as one whole unit. While others are able to distinguish them as separate movies. It's just how peoples' brains work sometimes. Some prefer to think of the LOTR trilogy as one giant movie. Same with Star Wars. Matrix was meant to be one long movie by the Wachowskis (sp?) so that is how some think of it. I, personally, separate them out because I've only seen the first two. Never saw the final one. After seeing the second one, I decided not to finish the series and ruin the original. It took some time, but I finally blocked out the second one and now consider the original as the only movie. But it took some time.

I think Revolutions is a bit underrated. It is almost as good as Reloaded.

But still, the original is flippin' awesome, and I'd really hate to have my opinion of it lowered because I didn't like the other two.

I agree on ST III, I think it is under-rated. I think V wasn't great, but had some great "character" moments, like with the camp scenes and when the Big Three have to overcome their inner demons. Generations also had some great character moments, like the scenes with Data and the emotion chip, Kirk and Picard. I still get bleary eyed in the beginning when Chekov asks if anyone was in deflector control, and Scotty just looks out and says "Aye"............Excuse me I can't go on!! I don't think they've made a good one since First Contact. Insurrection and Nemesis blow cheese, IMO.

Akira isn't a startrek film, darn it! OR Underrated!!!

And Nemesis is seriously under rated. Well. The whole Troi-Viceroy 'violation' scene was bad....
But that's it!

Huuhhhh...GOD. Yeah, I was really impressed with the Romulan super-weapon. The victims REALLY had to co-operate. "Well sir, the Romulans are deploying their super weapon. ETA Till it's ready: About a half-hour". Plus the whole thing with Data was ridiculous, just like the tv series: hit the reset button, everythings oooooook.

Are you kidding? The Enterprise was gutted, Riker and Troi left the ship, Data was killed...

Nemisis changed more than any other Star Trek movie.

The issue with Data is that they just happened to find a complete duplicate that they could transfer his memories to. False jeopardy, making the entire last few minutes where we think Data is gone totally superfluous. Can't argue with the rest of the movies, with the exception of Generations where Kirk is actually dead (not taking into account the books).

Riker and Troi: If it weren't the last movie (thank God) I'd say that doesn't fly because of the way they shuffled Worf in and out.

Granted, mostly.

Still, the real Data his dead. Before can't ever really be Data even if he has Data's play-list in his mind. Also, the 11th Startrek movie has been confimred, so Nemisis isn't really the last.

Would that be the Pre-Enterprise movie? That seems to be their preferred time frame now so their not held to anything done in the originals in terms of continuity. I hope it doesn't get made...at least with the current "creative" team. ST died for me after DS9 ended.

But if you take the bottom horizontal bar of of an F and attach it to the top left side, it becomes a T, and
therefore it is ST, which everyone knows means Star Trek.



But even using your logic, Akira isn't underrated. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I actually thought this was a pretty bad movie, and Im pretty lax on what i consider bad. Yeah it had some cool sequances and such (that whole gun based kung fu he used was pretty sweet) but the movie as a whole i found poorly done.

My main problem (this may have just been the actors, but i think it was based more in the script) is the amount of emotion the characters showed, even the ones that were still under complete control of the drug used to supress emotion, was way too much. The main characters 'partner' who started to 'hunt' him after he stopped taking the drug was way to emotionally involved in the persuit...he took it personally and all his responses were riddled with emotion. And he wasnt really the only one, but he was the main one. That basically ruined the whole premise of the movie for me, thus killing my suspension of disbelief and all that jazz, and ultimatly ruined the movie for me.

I consider ST3 to be the best of the odd-numbered. I think the reason it was as good as it was is because it carried the storyline from ST2 and was cotinued by ST4.

If I had to rate the Star Trek movies, they'd be in this order:
2, First Contact, 4, 3, 6, Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis, 1

As for my own thoughts on the subject:
- You have to give some points to Stargate. The movie was kind of predictable, but look at the show that it spawned.

- Its kind of a kiddie Sci-Fi, but I enjoyed Flight of the Navigator enough to buy it on DVD.

I agree. Star Trek 3 was quite dark, but it was well made and I actually liked it a lot. I don't know why people like to bash it as being "boring" and "predictable".
