But all you George Lucas haters out there: would you change your mind if Revenge of the Sith turns out to be a masterpiece, he releases the OT on DVD, and then he makes SE's of the prequels, fixing all the stupid plot points, and denies that the original prequels ever existed?

I think that when he gets some time to really think about things, he'll release the OT on DVD. If there's one thing he is, he's very clever at marketing. I think he's just waiting and waiting for demand to build up, and he has no need to release it now, with his prequels. He needs a way to make money later on (despite the millions he has already).

OK so basically, this was his plans:

1977- Release Star Wars. Get a whole bunch of money.
1980 - Re-relase Star Wars so that people can watch it before watching ESB. Add "A New Hope" to the title.
1980s/1990s - Release it in video, get some more money.
1997- Re-re-release it on theaters. Change some random stuff to justify the re-re-release. Make sure Greedo shoots first this time.
2004- Wait until the fans can't wait no more for the DVD. Change some more stuff in order to create a hype, and released it. Get some more money from it.
2006?- Release a TV show. Remember: plot matters not! Make sure Kevin Smith is as far away from the project as possible, he could accidently make it good. Good TV shows are NOT profitable, because only inteligent people watch good TV shows, and inteligent people don't go on buying everything they see on the ads.
2007?- Re-re-re-relase the OTs and the PTs in 3D. Make sure you have a pseudo-director backing up this dated, ridiculously insane idea; a director like James Cameron would be nice.

The thing you don't understand is that I don't give much of a damn about the prequels. I'm in this for the originals. I've watched TPM and AOTC. I wasn't too keen on TPM and I enjoyed AOTC. But, to me, SW is the original three films released in 1977/80/83. That's all I want. I haven't purchased any of the prequels on DVD nor do I plan to (unless, GL releases all six in a box set and that's the only way I can get the original cuts of eps 4-6).

The hole in your argument is that he can fix the prequels all he wants to make everything fit together perfectly and get rid of plot holes and the like. However, people who don't like the new changes can refer back to their original DVD versions of TPM, AOTC, and, when the time comes, ROTS. You will have both versions on official LFL DVD releases. We fans of the original cuts of 4-6 cannot go back to any other version of the DVDs if we don't like the changes GL made to them in his 2004 DVD release. They don't exist at all officially. The only copies come to us thanks to some special people here on these boards. Very unofficially.

And, I, too, am thankful I didn't grow up on the Internet.

Don't misunderstand me. I don't have the nostalgia attachment to the films that others at this forum do, but I'm every bit as pissed off. Only from me, it's just due to my censorship morals and my beliefs on artistic merit.

I also don't like it when the big guns try to tell me what I am and am not allowed to buy with my money. I mean hey, its MY dollar I'm spending, and I broke my back earning it. Either Lucas is going to put out what I like, or he's not getting my dollar. Period.

I also hate people who try to force their beliefs on others, which is exactly what George Lucas is doing. No matter what self-serving philosophy the conformists come up with about him being the creator, its not any more right for him to do it than it is for anyone else.

I honestly do feel this entire freaking issue is handled from entirely the wrong angles. I mean seriously, the Lucas suck-ups do nothing but talk about how he's the creator so he can do anything he wants (that's like saying its okay for parents to beat up their child), while the fans talk endlessly about how they grew up with the originals, coming off as little more than nostalgia-mongers. As far as I've seen (and excuse me if this sounds arrogant) I'm the only person who wants the original version on DVD yet is actually not a huge/religious fan of Star Wars itself. The arguement really needs to find more angles, or at least start playing up the more compelling/intelligent ones (such as George's hypocrisy on the colorizing of black and white films).

EDIT: Now that I think about it, what the hell does the term "grow up on the internet" mean?

Not necessarily "easy access" as we all have easy access. It just means that you grew up in the Internet era and have no idea what life was like before it obtaining information 100% from alternate sources. It is a far different time now than it was a mere 12 years ago. Every bit of news I had came from the television news and the newspaper. I never imagined getting information like I do now from a computer. Couldn't even fathom it.

people say that they're glad they never grew up with the original star wars because they feel that we're in need of some sort of councilling because of no original trilogy.

the fact is i wouldn't have had my childhood any other way than with star wars in it...

if the younger members had even had a chance to live the impact these movies had on our generation they would be singing a much different tune

Guys, I'm twenty-one years old (born in 1983) and I first got internet access when I was like sixteen (not long after I first saw a Star Wars movie, in fact). I didn't "grow up with the internet." It doesn't help your arguement or raise your credibility at all to go around believing that anyone who didn't have the same childhood as you must be some little kid. In fact it makes you look conceited and arrogant.

I didn't grow up with the originals (I saw them when I was a kid, but they were on TV and I was too young to really get the story other than the lightsabres). That being said, I do understand why people who grew up with the originals want the right to be able to watch them without the edits.

First, most of the changes are ridiculous. Take the Greedo scene: if George was so worried about making Han look like a guy who wouldn't shoot someone to keep from getting killed, he should have filmed it that way from the get go.

This is probably the dumbest and over the top analogy I can think of, but it's like putting arms on the Statue of David. For most people, it's not that big of a deal, but I still think George should respect the fans that helped him and the story get where it is. It's not that difficult to put the originals out. It would just take some restoration from the original print and color checking. Then again, had he just done that instead of the SE edits, I don't think anyone would have an issue. I'm still fine with the SE's because that's what I'm used to, but it still would be nice to see the originals again the way they were when first released. I just don't get why he's so hardheaded about it. It's like he's embarrassed of the technology he used back then, even though it was revolutionary at the time.

okay you must have missed the point...

im simply saying that those who didnt grow up with the movies since a young age cannot and does not have any say in what those who have grown up with them feel...

you said "Makes me glad I didn't see Star Wars (any of them) until I was fifteen." therefore you don't know how much this movie has meant to people who saw it at the age of lets say 7 or 8 and have supported it through and through...

those fans of us who have stuck by these movies over the years and have literally made it a part of our life cant help but feel a little abandoned by the person who made us love them

its like two loving parents raising a child and then getting a divorce one day and saying that their mother/father was never their type in the first place...
may not seem like the same thing to you but its just as much of a shock!
