Hello!

I am a student archivist at a university in Canada, in charge of our 16mm collection. I am currently re-organizing our small storage, and found a copy of ESB in unmarked cans on 16mm polyester film.

They were sold to someone, from a Steve Pilant in South Carolina for 100$ at the time. They have Columbia Pictures reels, and the seller notes the detail on R2’s dome, and how Laser Discs don’t show that detail.

My questions are: approx what time do you think these were sold? How rare are they, so I can determine what level of preservation to give to them. Should we be screening it, or should it be “put in a glass case” as it were. And any other information you can give. This is the best find in our collection, and I’m so excited by it!

Thanks!

Hi, I’ve sent you a private message, click on the ‘speech bubble’ at the top right of the screen to view it.

I can help you with identifying the age, lab and history of the print. For now, I wouldn’t screen it until you can investigate it a but further. More details are in the private message.
