Saw the trailer again attached to Dr. Strange. It’s strange (no pun intended) how much more excited for the movie I got while seeing the trailer on the big screen, even though I’d seen the trailers a million times. Suddenly I’m actually very excited for this movie, when previously I was only somewhat interested.

I’m either going to cut class on the 15th and go to a 7:00 or 7:30 showing or go to the midnight and take work off the next day or go in late. I definitely don’t want to try to deal with the crowd at a Friday night show after work.

Also, I saw the trailer before Arrival this past weekend and it was a really neat experience. I somehow missed the TFA trailer in theaters last year in spite of going to many more movies than I have this year.

I suspect thousands tend to call in sick on the opening day of any Star Wars film. The impact on national productivity can only be guessed at. 😉

This IMAX poster is pretty cool.

The placeholder showtimes on Smithsonian’s ticketing page has it listed as 3D for both Air & Space Museums (downtown DC and Udvar-Hazy in Chantilly, VA). This makes sense since both have converted to the laser system (which makes showing full-sized Imax 3D infinitely cheaper) and also since Lucasfilm didn’t show TFA in 2D at any laser locations last year.

Then again, Fantastic Beasts was also listed in advance on their site as being the 3D version but they’d changed it to 2D by the time opening day rolled around. Maybe something similar will happen with Rogue One, but I’m not holding my breath. Those of you who can see it in 15/70 are truly lucky.

My best friend from high school has had his heart set on getting a group together to see this at Udvar ever since early last month (Vader’s return to the big screen is a really big deal to him). If it does in fact end up being the 3D version, I’m positive my plea to not see it that way will mean nothing. My friend has perfect vision and also doesn’t care whether or not a movie was shot in stereo, so those are two things I got going against me. On the other hand, I’m way way way overdue for a new prescription. Maybe I can get contacts (I’ve heard you do not want to be wearing prescription glasses with 6p 3D systems) and just “go with the flow.” At the very least, the shots that are mostly/entirely cgi should look spectacular in natively rendered stereo.

All digital IMAX presentations will be 3d. Only 70mm film locations will have 2d.

I so feel like twisting my friend’s arm to go see it at the art house theater only three miles from where he lives, but I know it’s gonna be met with a resounding “no.” He likes his stadium seating and decently big screens at the very least, but he also hates putting up with your typical rude/inconsiderate multiplex audiences which is why he doesn’t want to see it at the mall either.

Ghost Protocol in 15/70 must’ve really ruined him on all other venues.

AAnd fandango crashed again. MovieTickets is still working

I just bought mine directly from the theater website (cinemark in my case). Even sitting here ready to go on the dot, the seats I wanted sold before I could get through the process. And the site was running slow and freezing up. But I got my tickets. One row closer than I really wanted, but it should still be fine.

Gonna see it in cinemark “XD” (their in house competitor for liemax). It’s a very nice theater with reclining leather chairs, a giant screen, and good sound. It’s my favorite nearby theater and their presentation has been consistently good (especially compared to the local AMC, which has visible projector hotspots and often physical damage to the actual screen…)

If I like it, and have the opportunity I might try to see it in 15/70 or IMAX laser afterward. But I’m not as fussed as I was about seeing TFA in IMAX 15/70. That was a much bigger “event” film for me being the first true Star Wars sequel since '83 as well as having a scene shot with actual IMAX equipment.

But anyway, yay! Tickets for opening night! Hope I like it as much as I think I will!

I’m excited that my Cinemark will be having 2-D showings on the XD screen! For TFA, IIRC, they only had 3-D showings in there, and 3-D and corrective eyewear don’t mix.

Yeah my cinemark has more 2-D XD shows than 3-D. And that goes for all movies, not just Rogue One. I guess 3-D must not be very popular here, which is fine by me!

Finally got mine… at 11PM opening night, in 3D (yeck). Reserved seating, which is nice but too damn late for my taste. Would wait until Saturday evening, but don’t want to risk spoilers online. Damn.

Got my tickets for myself and friends Thursday night. Had the perfect seats and the site crashed. Ended up with less than perfect but close. Only thing is my theater wasn’t playing it in 2D at 7 so I went 3D, don’t really mind though.

Also I got roped into going with another group of friends on Friday, and one of them already got tickets. So I already have two tickets to this movie weeks before it’s out. I’ve never done that before, not even for TFA. It’s not that I’m super pumped for RO, just happened. This had better be good.

I got my tickets for both the premiere and opening night so two nights in a row 😉

By the way Han shot first.
