Yes - it can be done BUT you will COULD video quality - I suggest getting a player that can play both PAL and NTSC - You can find them as low as $35 at Wal-Mart

OR get the Philips DVP642 - It's $70 but it will PLAY evreything you throw at it - DivX, Xvid, VCD, XSVCD, MPEG2 VOB's and PAL or NTSC on the fly! NO buttons to push or anything.
