The Cowclops Transfers (a.k.a. the PCM audio DVD's, Row47 set) Info and Feedback Thread (Released) — Page 8

I've been following this thread for awhile, and pardon if this is redundant, but will the new Cowclops have a disc of extras?

Yes, a new 4th disc is also being completed. It will include the bonus contents of both the Faces and Definitive sets.

I will say it again: This set is going to be so sweet.

I have some more news.. I chatted with Cowclops last night and he said that ANH and TESB are finished, and that he is working on ROTJ and the bonus disc currently. I managed to get the TESB menus from him, so here is a sneak peek at what's in store for us. The chapter selection menus have full motion snippets and all menus have various music clips playing in the background (they all differ). Check it out:

You guys rule! TR47, I acquired the original set from you a while back and was overjoyed to have the theatrical versions in great quality. This new set looks just stunning. Thanks a million for your efforts

Quick question on the audio: I take it the commentary tracks are edited from the 2004 release? And you still managed to fit the PCM soundtracks on there I hope? It's so great to hear SW in all it's uncompressed glory...

The commentary is from the '93 DC.

When I put the DC commentary on my version, I compressed it to AC3. It's just talking, after all.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I was wondering if the aliasing (straight lines on Tantative IV for an example), colorbanding (scenes in the desert and snow) and framerate problems of the old TR47 version have been fixed for this new one? I converted my PAL VHS tapes to DVD a few months back and the framerate is better on those surprisingly and there was almost no aliasing. Was this maybe a result of the laserdisc being converted to the DV Cam? Also, haven´t heard much recently whether the new Cowclops version will be anamorphic or not. I hope TR47 or Cowclops can shed some light on these issues. Cheers!

A good comparison between the old version and the new version would be very much appreciated, with screenshots etc. Can‘t wait...

Shows how much I know. I had no idea laserdiscs had commentary tracks

Yeah, the color banding was DV camcorder thing. Not sure what you mean with the frame rate problems... I watched the originals all the way through a couple times and never noticed anything with the "frame rate." Though, in the Indiana Jones LD rips I did even before I did Star Wars, (obviously, this was a long time before the real discs came out, which are amazing I might add,) there were some shots where the 3:2 pulldown sequence changed, and I didn't notice it changed so it would look weird for a shot, then be correct, then look weird, only in a couple scenes though. Either way, if there were any issues I missed the first time around, I'd say theres a minimal chance I made the exact same mistakes this time since my "order of operations" was much more logical this time around.

And yeah, the commentary track is just 64kbps mono. I did some quick line by line normalization to keep the volume from being COMPLETELY all over the place (they really did a shitty job with that. You can barely hear what they're saying in some spots).

I think I'll do Return of the Jedi this week. Then I'll just need to do the extras disc, and it will be done.

Thanks for the reply Cowclops. Regarding the framerate this might be a issue with my PAL DVD player converting the NTSC signal, and therefore introducing some judder problems. I really don´t know, haven´t noticed this on any other NTSC titles I´ve played though. It´s good to compare some passing/movement shots of spaceships, for example the first shots in EP4 and a lot of the shots in the blackness of space to the same shots from the 2004 DVD´s, where the framerate is much smoother, at least for me. Maybe those that have NTSC to NTSC setup aren´t experienceing those same problems.

It will be great when those transfers are ready, so we can start the comparison from all angles. I sure hope they are a big improvement over the old versions. Keep up the good work...
peace,

I just finished burning the original TR47 set, and I thoroughly love having them. It's great to now have the original and the 2004 versions so I can watch them both. Thanks for the great set Cowclops and TR47, and I can't wait for the new one!

On a side note, I'm tempted to burn the WookieGroomer set and put all three in one case -- OOT, 2004OT and Splitscreen! It'd be awesome!

Are you having trouble with all of them or just one or two? I could seed them for you after my current torrents finish.

Having seen your extensive dvd list Rik, I have to ask, which 6 make up the "Blaksvn" 6 disc "Making The Trilogy Collection"?

The six disc set was from last year I 86'd my old Making of transfers (Making of SW, SPFX of Empire, Classic Creatures and From SW to Jedi) in favor of better ones the set also included the Casting Auditions plus The Forgotten Scenes (pal)- If you look my list over you could create HUGE making of collection

Thanks for clearing that up Rik. I've been acquiring quite a few making of discs myself. My curiosity is now satisfied
