Best palpatine hologram?

Original. I don’t understand when people go off about how it sucks because it’s a chimp and an old lady. Yeah, I know it is, and it’s creepy as hell.

As a purist, the original. Knowing its a chimpanzee lady doesnt bother me and actually seems creative for the time. For consistency, Adywan’s. Having ROTS Emperor in the scene just looks out of place when you watch it back to back with ROTJ. At least Adywan used the ROTJ Emperor and fixed the scene to accommodate the original dialogue.

Is you really look at it does it look like rot?

I’ll take either of the ones with Ian McDiarmid over the original. This is the one thing in the entire trilogy I think was in genuine need of a change. Not so much that the original should be buried, but enough that it should have been done. It could have been executed better in the official version, but I’ll still take that over what we had. It’s still more consistent because at least it’s the same actor. The original voice actor was awful and the hologram–setting aside it’s a hybrid of an old woman and a chimpanzee–looked absolutely nothing like the Emperor in ROTJ, even less like him than ROTS McDiarmid does. I can’t shake the feeling that those who argue that the original is genuinely better in this case are being disingenuous and arguing purely from a place of nostalgia alone. Is it not enough to say that you think the unaltered originals should be released, while still conceding that they were not perfect and that not all changes made to them are intrinsically bad? I mean, be honest: If McDiarmid was there from the start, and then for some reason in the SE George changed it to an old woman/chimpanzee hybrid, would you still say it was better? Of course not. So are you really saying you think it’s better in its own right, or are you just saying it’s better because it’s the original? There is a distinction, and there’s nothing wrong with the latter. But let’s be honest here.

Not all changes are bad. Some of the VFX in the Battle of Yavin SE were nice to look at. I even like the Victory Celebration music over Yub Nub.

As for the Emperor in TESB? I’d take the original any day over the 2004/2011 version. And that’s not nostalgia talking (it’s just a different system of values, which I’ll try to explain). Because for me, continuity is a binary: either it works or it doesn’t work. And neither the original nor the 2004/2011 version work for continuity since the original is a different actor than in ROTJ and the 2004/2011 Emperor is the ROTS version rather than the ROTJ version. So given that, I’d take the original any day because I’d at least be watching the actual movie.

Having said that, I do quite like Adywan’s version. If that were the one used for the 2004 & 2011 releases, then it would be my favorite for continuity. But it’s not. What we got instead was an alteration that didn’t have enough effort put into it to justify its existence (IMO). It was ultimately a half-measure; and I hate half-measures. Either do it 100% right, or don’t do it at all. So for that reason, I prefer the original over the 2004/2011 version (but I would prefer Adywan’s if that were on the SE).

I don’t know, while it’s true that Theatrical Empire Palpatine ‘‘sounds’’ nothing like Ian McDiarmid, the visuals… Well we barely even see what he looks like in the first place. His face is almost completely covered in shadows. I’ve seen the argument made that showing his face as clearly as the redone version does sort of takes away from the mystery of the character, and I don’t think the original shows him clearly enough that it ends up becoming particularly jarring in Jedi to begin with. Like, if they had kept the original hologram and merely redubbed it with McDiarmid’s voice, I think that would have worked fine.

That said, yeah, I prefer actually having the same actor in all the movies, even if the implementation of the change was… less than perfect. I guess Adywan’s version ends up being the best by default here.

I agree about the victory celebration thing. My friend got me the OT on a usb. It had se IV and Vi, and theatrical V.

Call me crazy but I actually like young anakin as a ghost.

We’ll be the judge of when judgement is appropriate, and the time is now. Go away, and while you’re away, go buy retail copies of the movies.

Pirating is more rude, and is criminal, and puts our forum at risk.

Deleting your first post is also rude.

I wonder how much longer you’ll last here.

You mean TFA? Total remake, and Rey looks like a chubby chipmunk.
