It wasn’t PURE EVIL!!?! I had braced myself for Gibson pandering and groveling before his masters with the standard “You idiots have to lay your heads on the chopping block after handing your children over to whatever we want before their throats are cut if you want to be real Christians” type BS. How does this prepare us for their Great Culling?
Everything was outstanding. I think it’s the best war movie I’ve seen.
ARRIVAL
Very good pure scifi. Fine performances. I liked the easy pace, except that it took time from further developing the philosophy and examinations of language and how it effects perceptions. I wouldn’t have minded an additional 20-30 minutes of runtime on top of the 115 minutes.

The absence of some exposition about the causality loop creating inevitability, or a need to act out future events to ensure a good outcome, left the decisions of the protagonist seeming, possibly, horribly selfish and irresponsible. Maybe we shouldn’t feel bad about children bred for slaughter because it helps to make everything good thousands of years in the future.
And this does help advance ‘The Great Culling’!!! A good dose of predictive programming with seven limbed Hydra beasts, multi-dimensional graphic time independent codes, and the need to do horrible things in the near-term to help the time independent Hydra beasts achieve greatness in the far future. Jives wonderfully with the hoax bible codes and hoax Omega Point theory coming from the same jesuitical folks who gave us the hoax ‘Piltdown Man’ “proof” of atheistic evolution.
