Legion of the Damned did a very good cover of a Pestilence song though. I think they even got pestilence vocalist to come in and do vocals for it.

There are a few smaller death metal bands I like but I’m not a huge straight-death metal fan. And when I’m in the mood for some traditional death metal I usually go for the bigger names because they have a certain"spark" that makes their sound pop to me and most smaller acts bore me. I like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Sinister, the first couple vital remains records, and a few others.
Pestilence is definitely one of the bigger names. I dare say they’re more popular than Deicide…Well maybe not but Consuming Impulse is definitely more popular and held in a higher regard than anything Deicide has ever done. The only Sinister song I have ever heard was their Necrophiliac Cover.
I’m much more into melodic death metal. (Kalmah, Insomnium, Children of Bodom, Sateriel, Stuff like that).
Funny thing is that I like melodic riffs but not Melodeath. I prefer Doom Metal in terms of an Extreme Metal Genre that is based on melodic riffing. Candlemass and Sabbath (if you count them) of course being my favorites.
I also love black metal as long as the production isn’t shit (a few exceptions to this) and the lyrics/imagery aren’t too cheesy or over the top. Older Mayhem, Antestor, Emperor, Svartsyn, Setheriel, Crimson Moonlight, Behexen.
Honestly I don’t listen to too much Black Metal these days. Darkthrone is all I really listen to in terms of Black Metal.
