People didn't sue everyone back then, and teachers used to be kinda brutal with kids. Reminds me of that "Another Brick in the Wall pt 2" video (from the movie The Wall), with the teacher ridiculing the student because of his poems ("Poems everyone! The lad consider himself a poet!")
