In the real worlds, ships get remodeled and renamed all the time. So this one could have two names and two appearances and not derail the universe.

As can be found in that link, they go on to say:
“Early during the Galactic Civil War, Raymus, now a member of the Rebel Alliance, was granted property of the Sundered Heart as a gift for running aid and medical supplies past several Imperial blockades. He took that ship for some of his most dangerous missions instead of the Tantive IV.”

So, it is two different, yet needlessly similar, ships.

And then it goes on to say even sillier stuff about him lending C-3P0 and R2-D2 to Star Tours at spaceport THX1138… (I’m really not an expanded universe fan, be it the fan stuff that got dropped by Disney, or much of the canonical stuff like this…)

I’ve decided on sticking with the Technicolor colors, after seeing NeverarGreat’s amazing Leia regrade. I think it looks most authentic, even though we will have to contend with the Technicolors well known green shift issues. So, I went back to the drawing board, and here’s the final color grading. I think it looks pretty awesome:

Beautiful grading !

I realy like the new Grading… In most older Versions you posted the Shirts of the Rebells where to grey and not blue enough for my liking…
Also the Colors of the Tantive seem more authentic and less stylized to me. 😃

I like the new grading as well! You’re going to make harmy’s job a bit easier once both projects are done. 😃 ( I’m sure additional cleanup will be needed and other things, though)

I agree, beautiful colours

Wow, those are fantastic! Probably the best I’ve ever seen them. Great work

Do you mean Despecialized 3.0 could come after 4K 77 ?

Oh dear, sorry Dre but with all due respect for the amazing work you’ve been doing, my first reaction to these latest regrades is they look quite over-saturated and far from the naturalistic 70s palette you’d successfully evoked (at least to my eye) 3 or 4 tries back. I don’t know if my monitor is set wrong (adobe RGB) but yeah… this has stopped looking film-like at my end.

Anyone else having this reaction?

I respectfully disagree, as I consider this the most film like grading I’ve done. Technicolor prints tend to be more saturated than most other prints. Prints in general tend to have a higher saturation and contrast than the home video release we’re used to. Have a look at these photos taken during the screening of the Senator print:

http://photos.petergaultney.com/Movies/Star-Wars-at-The-Senator/

or these photos of a reel of another Technicolor print:

One of the questions in grading a print scan, is whether to correctly represent what’s seen on a print, or whether to reduce saturation and contrast to conform to the expectations of a home video release. In this case I opted for the former, but I’m open to suggestions…

Perhaps it would be better to hold off judgement until you see it in motion. The sample video should be available tomorrow…

I don’t know what the schedule is at all. But these guys are all working together now. Despecialized 3.0 will be based on Neverar’s recolored blu-ray (which is coming along nicely). In theory, if they cleaned up the ‘despecialized’ shots first, Harmy’s could happen first while the rest of the film was worked on for 4k77. It will all depend on what these guys want to do, I’m sure.

It’s up to those those in charge of the prints, but it certainly makes sense for the despecialized parts to be cleaned first. The last large sections of the blu-ray for me to finalize are the last half of reel 1 and most of reel 2. After that it’s just small pieces involving lightsaber replacements. I would be surprised if this took me long after the end of 2016.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

Yes, it makes sense ! I suppose a lot of work is currently being done on the 35 mm scans available to replace the altered scenes.

Not that this new grading looks “bad” or anything, but I do feel a preference for where things were going previously, and you’d even managed to almost fully subdue the green edging. Not to mention that the close-up shot of the rebel’s face now looks like his cheeks should be checked by a doctor for a skin condition…

The latter seems to be an artifact from the settings of the color matching algorithm, as the corrected Tech scans that I use as a reference, and have a lower resolution don’t show this anomaly.

Here are the same frames as they should be looking:

These look spot-on to me. Well done. 😃

Well, first off, I think you may have nailed the colors. I’ll have to reserve final judgement until I see the sample video and more reels of the film. But I also think that matching the saturation of the Technicolor print is a mistake unless you are after that technicolor look. I think if you dial down the saturation a bit to reach a less technicolor result but still with rich and full colors, that you would achieve an accurate representation of a non-Technicolor print. Technicolor is known for the intense colors it produces and taming that and the green tint that seems to plague the Star Wars Tech IB prints seems an ideal strategy to me.

That said, I do love old Technicolor movies so if you choose to follow the more saturated path, that works as well.

All right, that deals well with the cheeks (and the lipstick look which I refrained from complaining about earlier, so as to not sound overly negative). Looking great for what it is. Not sure which look I like more, but this is good.
