Anyone an Office Space fan? We made it a way of life where I used to work. They were shutting down the site, so for 3 years I worked with a skeleton crew and we got away with a lot, ie: Rent movies and watch them in the break room all day, go to the go-kart track/driving range for about 2 hours during the day. We adopted a saying from it: "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care". Picked up the DVD last week.

I enjoyed the movie, not a fan of it. But I do follow some of it's philosophies. I don't enjoy my job, never really did, and I've seen some much crap all those years, I just don't care anymore. All you have to do is to work as little as you can, make sure your boss belives your job is difficult and stressing, look busy all the time, go to meetings and say as much as you can (it dosen't matter what), stay up late in office at least once every month, and make sure your boss knows about it... Do it, and you'll do just fine.

I remember this time when I was working on this other city, it was my last week there and all I had to do is to perform a copy of a database on a wednesday, I was pretty much stuck there for the rest of the week. I was in a small room filled with computers and servers and this incredibly noisy air duct, and there was no one there and my cell phone didn't work there... Well, what can I say? I had freaking picnics there, with burgers, and milkshakes and chocolate bars the size of books, I got some extra pounds that week. I'd web surf like I never did before. I'd post here. I'd escape work without anyone seeing me (I didn't talk to anyone at that company that week!) and go to the mall. I watched Spiderman 2, and got back without anyone noticing. And the best part is: they payed my consulting firm the hours I spent there - and I only really worked for like, 3 hours that week.

one of my all time favorite movies.

"so yu see, since i graduated and started working, every day has been gradually worse then the day before. So on any given day, if you saw me, that would be the worst day of my life."
"is today the worst day of your life?"
"yea"
"woow thats messed up"

I thought it was fair when I first saw it, but after three more viewings, it's grown on me. I find myself saying, "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care" all the time, because it's so true.

Never seen it; been meaning to get around to it, but law school keeps getting in the way.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Yeah, I was to the point where I was getting physically ill when I'd go to work...that's how stressed I was. However, after a few months in a zero supervision atmosphere I got loose, and took the opinion that life's too short to get like that. My new motto is "Life got a lot better after I stopped giving a sh*t". Office Space is like a big wink at those of us who've figured this out.

Exactly, and it dosen't apply merely to our jobs, but to our whole life as well. My motto is: "The worse thing it could happen is me geting killed, and that's not really that bad."

All you have to do is work for a consulting firm that works with ERPs and CRMs, and make sure their customers have as much money to spend as possible.

Thaaaaaanks

The "office speak" is so right on in that movie. My wife often asks me what's so funny about it, and I'm like "Unless you've worked in an office environment you just won't get it".

I remember the cake scene, when there's a birthday at the office and everyone is singing "happy birthday" in a not-too-excited way, and then there's not enough cake for everyone... The exact same thing happened to me so many times...

Thankfully, my office only has eight people in it. We don't celebrate birthdays as a whole organization, just within our little PR department.

We neither, it was merely a birthday celebration between the department, no more than 20 people. Where I'm working now there's a cake every month for everyone who celebrated birthday at that specific month. I think it's one of the most ackward, weird experiences, a "infantile birthday cake happy birthday singing" scene at an office.
