I would probably love this film if Kyle Katarn was in it. As it is, I’m not interested and have no plans to see it. Two Star Wars movies with a female lead…, it’s all just feminist BS.

You’re absolutely right, Star Wars is for men!!! I’ll take a universe full of spacefaring humanoid aliens that usually speak English, basically use magic, build giant planet-destroying superweapons, and fight with laserswords, but if those aliens are women then that’s totally implausible feminist nonsense!

[end sarcastic rant]

I’m happy Katarn isn’t in Rogue One.

While I’m pretty indifferent to his role procuring the Death Star plans, I absolutely love his story with Jerec and the Seven Dark Jedi and the Valley of the Jedi on Ruusan; I wouldn’t want to see him in Rogue One if it somehow ends up nullifying all that.

Well, we already had Rey, who could outfight Kylo Ren, though she never picked up a lightsaber before. She could also fly the Millennium Falcon without any training as a spaceship pilot. She was absolute perfection and showed those men a thing or two, so why do we need another female lead in the next film?

Because my opinion is just as valid as anyone else’s here.

Well that depends on whether one thinks the opinion of a misogynist is valid.

So I was thinking about the discussion from the previous page about aspect ratios.

It dawned on me that if you take 1.90:1 (the digital cinema AR) and multiply it by the 1.25 squeeze factor of the ultra panavision lenses you get, wait for it, 2.375:1.

So maybe it’s no accident that the final AR of Rogue One after you crop the sensor from 2.11:1 to 1.90:1 happens to basically be the same as the cinemascope AR.

She had used her staff, though. And maybe Kylo Ren is absolute rubbish at using a lightsaber, we have no reason to think he was good.

She could also fly the Millennium Falcon without any training as a spaceship pilot.

Untrue. As CHEWBAKA said, she did use flight simulations. I don’t know if it was mentioned in the movie, but it was definitely mentioned in Before the Awakening.

it was mentioned in the movies. also she claimed to have flown a real ship, just never outside of the atmosphere. As usual, those with the rants misstate or ignore facts.

Right, she used her staff… beating sand and stuff. The guy was clearly involved in real battles and was proficient with the force on top of that.

She could also fly the Millennium Falcon without any training as a spaceship pilot.

The film clearly established that she was basically struggling for food. I don’t see how could she get an access to flight simulators. And there is no reason what so ever that there would even be flight simulators in that dump of a settlement.

Don’t be silly my friend. Her claim to have flown ships while struggling for food as an utter low-life is either an in-universe lie or a big plot hole. Either way it is stupid.

If that’s how you feel. Still happened and explains how she managed to fly the Falcon.

EDIT:

She found the ship and I think the flight simulator was in there as well. So with that being said there’s nothing wrong with any of this.

If explanation is stupid and completely illogical, it is not much of an explanation.

Take a proficient fencer, then shoot him in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun slug, then see how well he fights afterwards.

I’m guessing not great.

Rey obviously knows a bit about melee combat because she handles multiple attackers at once on Jakku.

As I’ve said multiple times before, her basic scrappiness coupled with Kylo’s having tanked a round from a bowcaster which generally sends people flying, plus her obvious latent strength in the Force explains the fight perfectly well.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Don’t judge the movie before it even comes out.

By the way Han shot first.

You may have missed that we’re talking about TFA in this Rogue One thread…for some reason.

Then again, we’re talking about bad Nickelodeon shows (or less redundantly, Nickelodeon shows) in another Star Wars thread, so…?

The key thing that people miss is that Unkar Plutt raised her on Jakku. She hasn’t been on her own the whole time. I imagine growing up she was a sort of servant to Plutt, working for him (on ships and such, which is why she knows so much about the Falcon - his ship) until she was probably 18 or so and then had to fend for herself. Would be smart for him to teach her to know the ways around a ship so that if he needed repairs he could just get her for dirt cheap.
