Rebel11_38 ...

Awww ... thank you so much. Thanks also for rhyming. I appreciate it. =)

Hopefully I'll be able to do more Deleted Magic sometime in the future. Thanks to Kenn for just now sending me some better quality stuff (of the CD-ROM material especially) that should have been on this DVD ... ah well ...

And you forgot page 3 of the special features ...

g) Notes on Chief Bast scene
h) DVD-ROM extras ... original screenplays for Star Wars (1st to 4th drafts), The Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Jedi. Lost Cut Crawl. Anatomy of a Dewback pt. 2. Droid Ship Cut Scene from AOTC.

Glad people like the menus ... I went for a simple design ... so was able to kinda slap 'em together quick ... which might become obvious when you compare them to those on my Short Films DVD ... you should have seen my original ideas for menus on this disc ... they involved crazy CGI and a million effects, and, well ... maybe next time. =)

Suppose that's what Lucas said too ...

I mailed out ten billion packages today ... the postage alone was $66.00! Lotta discs out there now, that should do the trick. Enjoy the film, everyone!

I edited my review above to include the last part of the menu and the extras on the DVD.

Truth is, before you said that, I didn't even know that they were there. I completely missed the third part of the menu and I didn't know about the stuff on the DVD.

I read your post and was like "What???..." So I immediately grabbed my copy and popped it in the DVD-ROM on my computer. Sure enough, there was everything you said would be there.

Oops.

The film has now passed the ultimate test ...

and gotten approval from the highest authority.

My mother.

She insisted on watching it for some reason. She liked it. She thinks I'm gonna get sued and thrown in jail, but she really liked it.

Her eyes were hurting so she couldn't read "the notes" onscreen .... I wound up pausing the film a lot to explain to her about the guy who was originally cast as Wedge, about the violence that got cut out, about the Trench run, about the Wampa door and Luke and Leia kissing and Luke's blue saber in ROTJ and Blue Harvest and all that ...

Live commentary. Rather fun to do really. Many parts of the DVD really need more 'splainin' to anyone but a true cutscenes fanatic.

Although I haven't had the chance to try this out yet, I'm convinced that it's best to get progressively more drunk as you watch this DVD. You should be completely piss drunk for Lapti Nek at the end. And then maybe put on the Kenner Ad and Light the Sky on Fire and all that crap.

It's best to be completely drunk when watching the entire Lapti Nek video, it must be. And only a drunk could get through all of Light the Sky on Fire after all of Deleted Magic ... hell, I don't think even a drunk could.

Skot Kirkwood could. And maybe Sluggo.

But the rest of you ....

I understand certain people will be watching this at C3, in a hotel room.

I expect beverages will be served.

That is an order.

I shouldn't type things at 3:30 AM.

I already said this in the Torrents thread, but those of you who were smart enough to pick up the "real" Deleted Magic DVD will be glad soon ... I'm waiting on certain professional people to design (and paint!) a cover for the DVD box ... which I'll post here for y'all to print out and make the Deleted Magic discs you've already got look right damn pretty.

No word from them yet, though. Give me a couple weeks, methinks.

I have to say - the DVD lable looks pretty damn sweet. What did you use to make that?

Oh, an let me know when the fixed version is ready (better CD-ROM material - I still haven't gotten my capture board up yet. ) I'll be happy to contribute to that as well.

Um, looks like I'm going to need a commentary myself. How about a 2nd audio track in the future?

It's an awful risk you don't want to wind up getting sued by LucASS and his fat greedy company.

Hi all!

I've been waiting until I saw a post saying that Deleted Magic was available.
Now I guess I pose the usual idiotic $10,000 question: How do I get it?
Can anyone of you hook me up with a copy?
I'd gladly mailout blanks to anyone who'd help me get a copy and continue to "branch" to others.
Just email me!

A commentary isn't a bad idea, though I suspect it would be a bit dull if it were me doing it. A group of people perhaps. I had actually considered putting on a "cast and crew" commentary cut together from lots of obscure soundbites from George Lucas and everyone else ...

Mebejedi -- I now have better captures of the CD-ROM scenes, and of Soundtrack!, courtesy GuruKenn (THX-1138). Perhaps for a future release.

The logo is printed directly on the DVD using an Epson Stylus Photo R300 Printer, which I bought specifically for this disc. =)

Now, as I said earlier, I am convinced that one might want to become drunk by the end of this film.

So ...

Here is the official Deleted Magic drinking game.

These rules are optional and should be done from memory. Drink when it feels appropriate. The rules will help. Drinking for EVERYTHING on this list is dangerous, though I do not actually advise against it.

Drink when:

---> Someone is seen without their mask or costume.

---> Someone is heard with their original voice.

---> Drink twice if: Someone speaks English who shouldn't.

---> Someone/something falls down.

---> Someone/something bumps into something.

---> Someone's helmet falls off, or something else malfunctions onset.

---> Something appears in black and white.

---> Something explodes.

---> Biggs is mentioned or appears.

---> A "famous" or amusing deleted line appears.

---> Jabba the Hutt is mentioned or appears.

---> Have you now. (chug)

---> Chief Bast appears.

---> The Holiday Special is referenced. In any way.

---> George appears, speaks, is spoken to, or is mentioned.

---> Luke is wearing his poncho.

---> John D appears.

---> Wookiee grooming occurs.

---> One of the movies has the wrong title.

---> The Radio Dramas are referenced.

---> Eddie Byrne (chug).

---> Luke/Leia romance is implied.

---> Effects are unfinished.

---> Someone narrates something.

---> Someone smokes.

---> Something really isn't very good.

---> Something catches fire.

---> Someone says "bang."

There you go.

Well, of course, coming from you. =)

Oh, this reminds me ...

I'm still trying to track down one piece of footage ... that Sluggo found a while ago, and then wasn't able to remember where he found it!

In my edit of the human Jabba the Hutt scene from ANH, I used footage from the old Making Magic CD-ROM to cover a short bit where Han walks around Jabba and says "Do you think I had a choice? But I got a nice easy charter ..."

Yes, that clip is on the Making Magic CD.

But Sluggo found part of it somewhere else, in VHS form. He just forgets where.

Specifically, he found a short clip where Han has just walked around the human Jabba and is saying (though we don't hear the audio) "choice? But I got a nice ..." So you'll see Han on the right side of the frame, Jabba on the left. Check my DVD or starwarz.com/deletedmagic for the exact shot I'm talking about. He used this clip in his edit of the scene for the web, but can no longer find the clip.

My guess is, this clip aired on some TV special, perhaps even Entertainment Tonight or something, talking about the Special Editions. Maybe it was part of a making-of the special editions Electronic Press Kit sent out to TV stations.

Almost certainly, they were talking about how originally Han just walked around the human Jabba, but they animated it so Han steps on Jabba's tail and OMG WACKY FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!!1111

This very short clip is not on the VHS tape of A New Hope Special Edition, or on the Making of the Special Edition VHS tape. "From Star Wars to Star Wars" was listed as a possible source, but I think it wound up not being in there ... and the white Special Edition rereleases on VHS were also mentioned, but I think it wound up not being on there either? Not sure.

The fact that Sluggo found it SOMEWHERE (even though he can't remember where anymore) shows that maybe some more clips of the human Jabba exist out there. Which would be nice.

Anyone has any ideas, lemme know.

I have to say, ocp, it sounds like you've put a whackload of effort into this project, and I'd love to see the end result...now it's just a toss-up as to whether I e-mail you and get a hard copy or go cheap-o and wait for Rikter's torrent.

Thanks again!

I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but I have that piece of the Jabba scene. Han walks from left to right, behind the human Jabba. There's no sound. It belongs to a documentary called "Star Wars: The Magic And The Mistery". I downloaded it some time ago from e*mu*le. The quality is... well, it's a TV-rip; the size of the frame is quite big, so it could be used if there's nothing better.

I've got a copy of that special on DVD, mastered from my SP VHS. The quality is sorta mediocre, but it might be usable. Let me know if you need it.

Wow ... thanks for the Jabba help, guys! You're the best ... sounds like it might even be a slightly different clip than the one I'm thinking of.

It's such a short clip that I'm sure someone could capture it in full quality (perhaps in DV format) and I'd still be able to download it on my connection ... anyone want to email me, [removed]? Or if it's really enormous, I'll give you an address you can upload it to?

Otherwise, toss me a DVD in the mail ... I'm curious to see that full documentary anyway, what's in it?

Thought I'd post a few reviews for the hell of it. Enjoy.

Hey, Garret.

I received the DVD in the mail today, and I watched it. Let me say:
WOW. This is an excellent piece of hard work and a labor of love. Your
editing is a joy. If this ever gets in the hands of convention-goers,
it's going to be a cult fan-documentary.

As someone who's done a bit of video-editing work herself, I know how
frustrating the whole process can be (milliseconds count).
How you took footage, audio, and text froml different sources and
blended them together -- definitely a dream-project. Wonderful! =D

I can understand why you might be a bit too pooped right now to do the
other two movies. But the trailers for them are a very nice tease. If
your deconstruction of A New Hope is the only one you finish, know that
you have already given your fellow fans a great gift.

A very thankful fan,
Lisa

garrett-

well well well, what an amazing job you have done! i had so much fun
watching deleted magic last night. having seen star wars about three
hundred times it's watching it for the first time all over again! i
thank you.

it's funny what sticks with me from 1977. i grew up in san francisco
and saw star wars in 70mm a few dozen times that summer. that version
of beru's voice is how i think of her sounding, even though i have
heard the other voice far more times. i love the side by side
comparisons showing the new hallways (an improvement i like) and the
less violence (one i don't like)

so interesting to see the ben's hut scene in it's original order and
the final battle too. both of which are far better as the ended up! as
is the whole film not surprisingly. i've always suspected biggs was cut
because he is just a plain terrible actor!

stupid question: will the final version include the various scenes that
have been left off of this disc?

i also enjoyed your short film very much. for science is quite clever!
but for me the real stand-out is music for the mind ballet. i really
loved it. such a great take on silent movies. it's got a real buster
keaton sherlock jr. fell to it. they way you incorporated vocalizations
such as sighs but not actual speech was fantastic.

keep up the GREAT work!

OH MY GOD These DVD's are AWESOME. Tremendous job this look just like
an official piece of Star Wars Memorabilia(It is offical for me). The
quality was amazing and the editing was superb. This is something I have been
wait for ever to see. While like 90% of the footage I had already seen,
seeing it all edited together is like seeing something new and better. It was
a very fofilling experience. Star Wars was the first movie I remember
ever seeing, and I remember reading the storybook and seeing all of these
pictures of the Biggs sequence and thinking what the heck!!! When the
behind the magic came out I finally saw those sequences and now I get
to watch them and it is better then ever. Anyway to make along story
short after buy like every version of the vhs(fox, thx, special edition and
2000) as well as the dvd's I now can say that my collection is just about
complete(with the exeption of episode 3 but that is expected as well as
a few other.) Thanks for the holiday special dvd too. Well time to let
you go and me to finish watching the extras.

Peace Out,

I'll send you that bit as soon as I can. I don't know if it will be useful, since ReverendBeasty's seems to have better quality ( his copy is TV-to-DVD, mine is TV-to-DI*VX ). Anyway it won't be too big, so I'll send it.

There's no point on sending you the complete documentary, mainly because is spanish dubbed (some parts have burnt subtitles).

Wow ... Jed has been looking through the Magic and the Mystery special, and he sent me a GREAT Jabba clip that I had no idea existed! It's not even the one I'm thinking of ...

It's a long clip of Han walking around Jabba, in its entirety ... "Look Jabba, even I get boarded sometimes ... Do you think I had a choice?"

The one I'm thinking of actually comes AFTER this clip ... Han actually starts to say "But I got a nice ..." So it would be like "Do you think I had a choice? But I got a nice ...."

I'm excited to realize that even more Jabba footage than I thought existed is floating around out there. Hoping that the clip I'm thinking of is also in this special somewhere ... otherwise, where in the hell did Sluggo get it, way back when??

I'm hoping that Beastly's copy of the special is a little better qualitywise, but this is most exciting ...
