sounds cool!

i'd offer to send those dvds to you, but it looks like you've already found a way to obtain them.
how might i acquire a copy of the final product? is this going to be passed around by you to a few people and then uploaded somewhere?

if so, i am a member of myspleen.net and would be more than happy to start up a torrent there. a lot of ot.com releases tend to appear there, and i've been itching to contribute something for a while...

This is all gonna be great

I can't wait for T bone's review on the dvds.

So keep checking his site for a review.

Actually, my real question is that I'm a bit unclear.

What are going to be the differences between your current version of DM and your final (or next) version?

Can't wait to see this, but I'd rather not watch another work in progress. I get mad enough at movie companies for their re-re-re-releases.

Also, rewatching the first 'cut' from the DM website I was reminded that some of the subtitles were on the screen too briefly, has that been fixed?

If we'd only known 30 years ago that SW was unfinished...LOL

Good question, Dr. M ... don't consider it a work in progress. This is mainly a release of the Star Wars deconstruction, which is done ... for now.

The Empire and Jedi sections are very short and lacking, and I still want to do a traditional, narrated documentary on some of the major deleted scenes ...

So we'll see about that when Deleted Magic Strikes Back.

As far as the first Star Wars goes, I have noticed that whenever I post new parts of Deleted Magic, people are really quick to come up with things I've missed, corrections, new ideas for things and new bits of footage I never knew existed.

I'm putting this version out as done ... but I'm sure within a couple months I'll have a million corrections or additions I could make. I actually have a few dozen ideas that didn't make it into this cut. =) And better quality media I could use for certain scenes.

You probably won't be waiting 20 years for Deleted Magic: Special Edition ...

But that said, pick up the Deleted Magic DVD. If you don't, you'll be sorry. =)

It's not a work in progress, it's a proper release of a finished film ... with the option for sequelling and tweaking in the future, a la George.

Email me at [removed] for a proper copy.

As far as the subtitles not being on the screen long enough, that's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid ... I've done my best, but sometimes the scenes themselves are too short to let the titles be up extra long. Myself, I'm a fast reader, but if it's too fast, that's what the pause button is for.

TBone was a big help with this project, his Cutscenes site was the major inspiration for this, and he's hosting the official site at starwarz.com/deletedmagic.

I printed off the first "test" version of the DVD last night. It looked good and played well ... I had made a few small mistakes which I went back and fixed ... and I changed some subtitles to be on longer. =)

My main surprise was that it was suddenly hard to get true blacks ... I've noticed this problem with a lot of fan DVDs, but I'm not sure what causes it .... suddenly the blacks get brightened up a bit ... It was mainly noticeable for me in the black widescreen bars above the image. If and when I do a "Special Edition," redoing all the widescreen bars myself is going to be job #1.

Due to this change in black level, the opening crawl no longer looked right ... it exposed a few seams in the image showing how I put it together!

So, I went back and redid the crawl, with a new starfield background keyed in, and it looks a hundred times better now.

And, just for the hell of it, I redid the 1977 crawl as well, which is on there as a special feature. Originally taken from the monomix DVD and looking awful, I keyed in a new background, changed all the color levels and reworked it generally ... and it looks lovely now, right out of Empire of Dreams. It, like the opening crawl for Deleted Magic, now features Shadowman's brilliant reconstruction of the opening shot .. he restored the shot to the way it looked before the 2004 DVD ... Amazing to see.

Also, just for fun, I've added in a special section in the "Lapti Nek Extended Music Video" section, a short "Making of Lapti Nek" feature. Very short because I was running out of disc space (mostly done using alternate audio and seamless branching rather than new video), but you will hear the english language version of Lapti Nek, and two different Huttese versions .... plus get some clips from both Classic Creatures and Star Wars to Jedi.

Dig it!

I've been burning copies of this disc the whole day ... actually bought a new printer so I could print on the DVDs so they have nice labels and all that. Don't get 'em wet.

As far as torrenting goes, I'd prefer it if you didn't for right now ... but I know it will get around eventually. Probably very quickly, at that ... Can't stop the music, as they say?

Mailed out the first batch today ... had a huge stack of discs. Cost a LOT to mail them all, and was a lot of work, but hey, it's all for the good of the community, right? =)

Those who get 'em, you can post your thoughts in this here thread, you can.

LOL...I haven't finished the disc yet, but what's up with the "Deleted Magic" screen behind Mark Hammil? Nice plug.

I have to say, the editing and music looks and sounds pretty damn good so far.

I just got my copy today. I don't have much time to watch it right now, but I hope to post a full review tomorrow.

From what I have seen so far I am really looking forward to seeing the rest.

Most fan projects don't include Special Features...nice...

Wow, i just finished watching the disk in it's entirety and i am totally blown away!!

best $10 i've spent in a LONG time.

Thanks Garett, i can't imagine how much time you must've poured into this masterpiece. It is completely stunning! I'd write up some sorta review, but i am too awe-struck to describe it right now in a legible form...

Now that's the kind of review I like to get! Thanks Cypher ... glad you appreciated it.

I live to please.

It was a heck of a lot of work ... but I knew I was making the kind of DVD I would want to watch myself.

To all those who haven't gotten theirs yet ... apologies, haven't been able to get to the post office since saturday. Tomorrow morning, with any luck.

Hope you all like it.

This has got to be one of the best Star Wars Fan projects ever put together.

"So, you think you know all there is to know about the Star Wars trilogy. Now go behind the scenes for an indepth look at what didn't make into the final cut of Star Wars." - ocpmovie

The Menu:

No static images on this menu. On the main menu you are treated to a montage of various Deleted Scenes from A New Hope ranging from the original Han/Jabba (Declan Mulholland) scene to the Luke/Biggs scene at Toshi station. Luke's theme (Binary Sunset) plays while the images cycle.

You have three options:

a). Play Movie

The beginning of the film even contains a narration by the author of this project. It was a bit suprising at first; I was trying to figure out who doing the voice over until he said his name. It makes it seem like an official documentary with the narration.

Throughout the film there are alternate takes played back to back, original cuts of key sequences in the film recreated, original and current audio takes contrasted, and more.

b). Special Features

c). More >>

Click on More >> and you get:

a). Chapter Selection

b). Play Deleted Scenes Only

c). Play Deleted Scenes with Extra Notes

d). Play Film with Extra Notes

e). About the Film (Disclaimer)

Under the Special Features Menu we are treated to many different goodies:

- This menu has the extended version of Lapti Nek playing in the background -

a). Photo Gallery - Images from all 5 Star Wars films to date

b). Kenner Toys Ad

c). Lapti Nek Video - Introductory behind the scenes video and music video from the Laserdisk Definitive Collection

d). Deleted Magic: Empire Strikes Back Trailer

e). Deleted Magic: Return of the Jedi Trailer

f). Jefferson Starship "Light the Sky on Fire" Music Video (Holiday Special)

g). More >>

Click on More >> and you get:

a). 1977 Opening Crawl - Nice touch

b). Garrick Hagon (Biggs) Interview

c). Declan Mulholland as Jabba Clip (From Star Wars to Jedi)

d). Chief Bast clip from the Holiday Special

e). Notes on Biggs Scenes

f). Notes on Jabba Scenes

g). More >>

This menu and the Chapter Selection menu both have Light the Sky on Fire playing in the background.

Click on More >> and you get:

a). Notes on Chief Bast Scene

b). DVD-ROM Special Features: Look inside this DVD on your computer to see the original screenplays for Star Wars, the opening crawl from the Lost cut, and more... - Note: This is not a link.

This menu has Yub Nub playing in the background!

Extras on the DVD-ROM:

a). Anatomy of a Dewback pt. 2

b). AOTC Droid Ship Cut-Scene

c). Early drafts of the original Star Wars Scripts - Rough drafts 1-4 and the revised fourth draft of Star Wars (what we know as A New Hope), the fourth rough draft of TESB, and one rough draft for Revenge of the Jedi (Return of the Jedi)

d). A fan created mock-up of the Lost Cut crawl from early in Star Wars history

e). Rough SW: ROTJ SE end sequence with full music in animatic from from the Malaysian BONUS CLIPS VCD.

There is no music here but what you listen too

Most of the Special Features are things you can see simply by watching the film through, but if you want to skip right to a certain part, than you can select from the Special Features menu.

The extra notes that you can select to have on screen is a real nice touch. Rather than just reading about them in various making of books, the author has taken the time to include them in context with their respective scenes. It makes for a very educational and much more enjoyable viewing experience than reading about them in a book.

This is a must have for any Star Wars fan and collector.

There can be no real justice done in telling how good this project is. You must obtain a copy....it is your destiny! Only then can you truly know the power of this DVD!

SO, get a copy.
Allocate several hours of your day to spend in front of your home theater.
Pop in the DVD.
Watch the film and all Special Features.
Rewatch the film.
Grab your closest family member/friend and make them watch the film and all special features.
Give your closest family member/friend the option to rewatch the film.
Talk about the film you just watched with closest family member/friend until the wee hours of the morning.
Go to originaltrilogy.com and post in this thread telling ocpmovie that his film was total crap and that he has to prove that he can do better therefore forcing him to finish the next two Deleted Magic Projects.

- OR -

Get a copy and watch it. Come back here and tell ocpmovie what a great job he did and offer to do your best Bea Aruthur impression. Or just tell him what a great job he did...and then do the impression for your closest family member/friend...
