Hello All,

My name is Andrew, and I discovered OGT during my long journey to hunt down the original un-specialized trilogy.

I have been a Star Wars fan since the womb. My mother saw the Empire Strikes Back when she was pregnant with me and as a 3yr old I saw ROTJ in theaters (I don’t remember much but I was there!). My first memorable exposure to Star Wars was on television. It was a special evening showing on network television (84/85?) and I remember my jaw dropping and from then on it has been a deep part of my life.

I do remember however the period between ROTJ and 1990 as being one of pure fandom. The series was over, there was nothing left except to watch it endlessly on VHS. So we made up our own stories and pretended to live in a galaxy far far away. Until Heir to the Empire.

All of a sudden there was a new excitement around Star Wars and the magic was back. I’m sure everyone on here knows all too well the various disappointments and exploitation’s that occurred in the years since. So my journey lead me here to the Haramy restorations and hopefully what will be a return to the magic once again.

I am excited to join this community and be a part of that journey!

May the Force be with you.

Hello, my name is David and i have visited this site over the years.
I grow up with the original trilogy and needed many years to accept the prequels and sequels. Today i believe that every Star Wars trilogy has it own flair. I intend to buy the japanese special collection laserdiscs of star wars and phantom menace.

Hello, all. My name is Brian - my middle name is Joshua. Different people address me by either, so take your pick. I’ve actually been registered on this site for about two years, but only recently became active. I don’t remember how I found this site originally, be it Harmy’s Despecialized, Adywan’s Revisited, or prequel edits. My extreme disappointment in TRoS has inspired me to attempt fan-editing on my own rather than just downloading others’ work. This is only possible because I had to replace my computer last year; I bought my previous one in 2003! So far my wife and daughter have been accommodating of the immense time investment fan-editing requires. I really enjoy fan-editing and hope to continue making edits and contributing back to this great community beyond this train wreck of a movie.

I was born too late to see the originals in theaters, so I grew up with VHS tapes recorded from TV broadcasts. I was into the expanded universe after the Thrawn trilogy came out, but by the time the Yuuzhan Vong were introduced, I had come to the realization that few of the books truly felt like Star Wars to me, and I hated the concept of the Yuuzhan Vong, so that’s pretty much when I abandoned the EU. I was happy when Disney wiped it away, although Disney hasn’t done any better.

This resonated with me. I always felt like the EU stuff felt like it didn’t feel “authentic”, or part of the same canon. Which… well, it makes sense, considering it was created by completely different creative people. Some of it was decent nonetheless, though!

Hey all! My name is Matt, and I have visited these forums in the past, but really posted. My recently becoming a step-dad has really reignited my love for the original trilogy, and we’ve unfortunately become accustomed to watching the “specialized” versions on the latest releases.

However, a few weeks before the quarantine came into effect, I lucked into a copy of the DVD set with the theatrical versions on the bonus discs - at a thrift shop for $5!! Luckily, my blu-ray player has a 2x zoom feature, which eliminates most of the letterboxing issues, but watching Empire on the 40th anniversary a few weeks ago was like I was a kid again!! Like a cohesive film.

I can’t wait to present these original films to my kids, so that they can know and love the originals as much as I do.

Thanks for having me!

Looks like no one new has joined in awhile. Am I really the first new recruit in 2020?

Anyway, heard about Harmy and looking around to find out about what y’all do. Glad to be here!

EDIT: Oh, I see I was looking at it backwards. I’m not the first 2020 newbie. LOL

Hey! I’m basically just here because I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and think the original versions need to be preserved… Also I want to see a remastered widescreen version of Slipstream (1989)

Hey everyone!

I joined this site last year just looking for the despecialized Star Wars films, which were awesome. But I keep coming back because I loved seeing preservation of other properties, specially the 35mm scan preservations.

Would love to help out with more of these projects where I can!

My name is Fish and I’ve been a Star Wars nut since 1977. Fanedits are essentially what The Beard attempted with the SE without the love of the Original versions that we have.

I love seeing everyone’s interpretations of these classics.

Hi

Registered here only recently, but had the pleasure of Harmy’s editions for some time. Looking forward to future developments, and to introducing my daughter to the theatrical releases.

Hi All

I’m new to this site. I stumbled across it while searching for obscure titles in the net. I don’t get much time on the net due to work. Like most people I’ve been at home more due to lockdown.
I saw the first SW film (IV) at the cinema when it was first released in 77. I was about 10 years old and can still remember the utter excitement and amazement I felt. It was one of those events that changed me forever.
Looking forward to having a good nose about the site.

Just to clarify that my username originated during a particularly rough ferry crossing from UK to NL the morning after a night of over-indulgence!!!

Stay safe.

Hello all, First-time long time. I guess I’ve been interloping for a while but thought I’d try to change all that.
I guess I got started down the fanedit rabbit hole back around 2010-ish. I was googling the prequels for something and came upon info on The Phantom Edit, found that and more and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m also an AFOL due in large part to the release of Star Wars sets after the prequels.
And to all you father’s out there happy belated father’s day.

Hi there, I’ve following this forum for many years but just didn’t happen to register and participate. I love the passion that some people possess to redo-remake-reconstruct cinema classics on it’s original shape which is many times a humongous tiresome effort. Just to make justice to the original work, denied by the majors releasing modified material and what exicted our minds at the theaters. The most obvious case is Star Wars but there’s an infinite list of beloved classics that never been seen light on it’s original form. The tragedy here is, that new generations will never know how good these movies were.

So, I’m here. I hope that I can at least participate giving some ideas. Thanks.

Luis.

Hi everyone. I’m just another crazy starwars fan. Kept up with fanedits and restoration projects as far back as I can remember. Thanks for being the only place that makes my memories look better than the originals.

Much respect

My name is Michael. I saw Star Wars in the theater in 1977 with my father when I was four.

I posted here a little years ago, but not very much.

I’m a big of the early Star Wars stuff: the OT, the original Marvel comics, the Droids cartoon, and even the Holiday Special. I don’t care much for the newer stuff or even the EU.

Hello, everyone. I grew up in a legalistically conservative religious home, where my parents prohibited any movies with even mildest violence, and since we were dirt poor, going to theaters was a pipe dream. In fact, I specifically remember my dad being the only one who could afford to go see Empire in 1980 and wishing I could have gone with him.

But, in 1984, CBS finally aired the first Star Wars film, and my parents conceded to let me stay up until 11PM that night to watch the whole, cropped-to-ad-nauseum, sound-debacle corruption of the movie on our enormous 21" color-desaturated Zenith. But, I was eight years old, and despite the gross misrepresentation, I have never forgotten that first viewing. When the Star Wars films became available on Beta tape, friends of mine invited me over and we watched the original trilogy. I was nine by then, and those viewings were just as memorable, in fact, moments that words could never describe.

But I wanted so much more. As a high school and college kid I sought out every large screen showing and digital media version I could get access to, and have not looked back. I am most impressed with the 4K77-83 work, though Harmy has done some great work, as well, and all of these just further strengthen my love of the original trilogy. My kids had seen all six of the existing Star Wars franchise films by 2005, when they were just four and five years old, respectively, and we were cautious and communicative before allowing them to see many of the intensely violent scenes, such as the Anakin burning scene. They opted not to actually watch that segment until they were older.

I’m grateful to be a member of the community, and hoping to enjoy many more memorable moments as a result of the connections I will find here!

Hey everyone, new to the forum! I was led to the project by YouTube’s algorithm showing me a video of all the changes made to A New Hope, and then seeing that someone had managed to get a physical copy of the trilogy in the hands of Edgar Wright.

Cue months into the strange year that 2020 has been, and I’ve read all about the Do’s and Don’ts of preserving this magical project. I’m looking forward to assembling the materials to make myself a physical copy of the Harmy editions. My Dad (not a SW fan…) and younger brother both work for a local signage company, so they have access to some quality printing tech.

I was six and a half when the Special Editions hit theatres, but prior to that my Mum estimates I watched the unaltered trilogy at least three times a week for years. Seeing these the way I really remember them blew my mind, it had been 23 years…

I was 8 when Phantom Menace came out, so back then, I ate it up. It was made for kids! Now, combined with nostalgia, and the new knowledge that fan edits exist, I realize that my adult belief that there is a good film hiding somewhere in each prequel isn’t totally insane.

No other series could ever make people work so hard, learn so many new things, just to make something so beautiful and pure, and attempt to share it with others. Star Wars rocks.
