Hi! I heard about the site years ago after watching the Despecialized Editions, and while I’ve always been interested in film preservation and fanedits I have only recently decided to dip my toes into those waters myself.

I’m currently working on my first fanedits, starting with a Donnie Darko project as well as an ongoing effort to create versions of movies with vomiting scenes removed, so that my partner who has a violent negative reaction to such material can watch and enjoy them with me. I’m tackling Booksmart and Knives Out to begin with.

This seems like a really cool site and a community of people I’d like to be a part of!

Hello Everyone,
I’m new here, joined this community a year ago, started with saying hi to all before posting anywhere! Found this community useful to me to stay updated with all news and members’ opinions.

Hi there,

I’ve lurked on this board before to read up on all the impressive work being done. Now I’m taking the plunge to at least sign up and request a couple of projects that folks have been working on. Look forward to being at least a minor part of this community as I’m committed to chiming in when I can!

Thanks to all who have done the hard work of preservation and restoration here.

Hello there,

Long time reader of these forums, decided to finally create an account.

I love what this community does, particularly the preservation projects unrelated to Star Wars (although obviously I am a big fan of DEED and 4K77). Looking forward to following ongoing projects more closely, and possibly make a few cheeky requests for some where I can…

Best wishes, and Happy Holidays!

Hello World!

I’m in Shanghai for more than 20 years now, and just realized an old dream: project the movies i like in a cinema.

i had the chance to get a 68 seat cinema room for a private projection of a french comedy few weeks ago that we couldn’t watch as we are stuck there because of Covid19.

Now i won’t stop here, and planning to project classics and movies that will never cross the chinese censorship/frontier. (No i don’t risk anything, they don’t really care of what we do privately between foreigners).

Anyway, i’m a big SF fan and of course Star Wars is on my top projection list along with Alien, Blade Runner, 2001 Space odyssey… you name it!

All those old movies we were too young (or not even born) to watch in Cinema!

I know the guy behind imperialboots and the 501e of Shanghai is working with me for blood donation drive. They are all ready to jump in their armors to watch the first trilogy in a cinema.

The cinema i found even tho is a real cinema room, all i can get is an HDMI cable to plug my laptop, for 1080p projection and stereo sound, i do not have the possibility to make full use of the whole equipment they have and that can only be used with legit media. Better than nothing!

I was thinking to project the despecialized version, but then a friend in HK talked to me about the 4k77 and all the work done to restore the original movie, so here i am!

The idea to have a projection that could get as close as possible as the original version is really thrilling! that’s exactly the kind of feeling i want to get! like getting into a british phonebooth and going back in time to be there at it’s first screening!

It is really great what you are doing guys! It make me think of all those movies made by Georges Méliès (another Georges doing SF hehe!) and that are only just mentioned in articles but nowhere to be seen ever again. His “trip to the moon” flims were believed to be lost for good but then retrieved and restored few years ago.

Hi there. Sorry for the inevitable redundancy with other posts in this topic, but I really feel I should drop a few lines about myself before I do anything else.

I have been following Preservation Projects of the Original Trilogy for about 14-15 years now (it all started when I somehow stumbled upon Moth3r’s Laserdisc transfers)… and I really enjoy watching FanEdits, mostly of all the Star Wars movies that aren’t the Original Trilogy (I guess I’ve done that for at least 11 years now). I have been amazed and thankful for all the work and care that have gone into both of these endeavors - and even though I’ve stopped by this place very often to find info and insight on many of the projects that I found interesting, I always put off signing up. I much appreciate the exitance of this site and the people on here… so I’ll try to jump in to support the community every once in a while – and hope this won’t remain my only post (don’t quote Yoda now, please).

Hi everybody, I’ve been visiting this page for a while to read threads about fan projects and unaltered ot news and now I decided to create an account to be up to date on new stuff that comes out !!

I’ve been a sw fan since I can remember, I grew up on the 2004 DVD editions with the cgi Jabba and the greedo shooting first cantina scene but now that I’m older I prefer the unaltered original thing. I’ve always liked analog formats, film prints and old tech too so I’m also interested in the TN1’s 4KXX projects and the process behing it.

Of course I’ve always wanted to see the “Lost Cut”, don’t know if that’s a lost cause or not, we’ll see…

Hello,

I am zealot for the original trilogy and want to archive them in their original analog form, digitally. I am an old soul so experiencing the trilogy in their native format feels most correct, especially since I grew up watching the originals on VHS.
And from an artistic standpoint, the classical nature of their production contrasts with the high-tech themes of the subject matter. Cool to think about as these timeless movies age.

Thank you

Hey everyone! I’ve been browsing here and there on the OT forums here for a while now and figured I should finally sign up and see if there’s any ways I can contribute and better follow topics I care for. Thanks to all the great authors here who’ve put in countless hours of work for the hobby we love!

Heyo, I’m just a passerby whose come and gone here a couple of years. Took me some time to jump in, so yeah. I hope that someday we’ll get those 4Ks of the original trilogy as it once was. I am a collector of blu-rays, fan of Criterion and Arrow, blah bleh you’re probably not interested in that. Good time to mention that I do custom blu-ray authoring in my spare time for content exclusive to the internet or that needs a remaster. Hopefully my voyage into this frontier may enlighten me on things I never knew before, shall we go into the light!

Keep the true peace in space, peeps.

Hello,
New to OT forums officially. Recently rediscovered the site when doing a google search for another movie, non-starwars.
Once landed I realized I already had the site in my bookmarks from a year ago when following a different restoration project.

I would like to get into film restoration work myself, I’m not very art talented, I dont think, at least not as far as drawing. I remember in school the one thing I found I was good at was doing perspective drawing, city streets and the like.

I work as a computer infrastructure engineer by day, and some nights do live lighting and video work at a local nightclub. Some of the larger events require sequences and edits, syncing things to timecode and other fun, or not fun depending on your definition, stuff.

Im hoping to be able to apply some of the general workflow skills to be able to restore older films and meet others who share the interest of preserving film art.

Once I get the hang of things, I want to take a stab at one of the older hopalong cassidy titles as their a favorite of my fathers.

All that said,
film restoration knowledge is shallow right now, but if anyone needs IT help, I can help with that.

Hey all, I signed up a good while ago, but never really became active. I’ve decided to change that.

Star Wars was the first film I ever saw in the theaters, way, way back on opening day in May of 1977. I wasn’t yet six years old. While it looks a good bit different, I even remember the place. The movie plex at the Brookfield Square Mall in Brookfield, WI. Curiously, waiting in line for the show with my Dad remains my oldest memory (Mom wasn’t interested in that “space movie”–yet. She changed her tune!). I distinctly recall standing between these long maroon-colored nylon ribbons, which stretched seemingly forever. When we got inside, and sat down with our popcorn and drinks, my little legs dangling off the side of the seat, there was this air of anticipation. Every atom in my body seemed to be on fire, and when the Fox fanfare played as the lights dimmed (no ten minutes of trailers back then), and John Williams’ iconic score played, and that glorious golden text scroll disappeared at the top of the screen, and the camera panned down to Tatooine, with Princess Leia’s cruiser chased by the Imperial Destroyer, it seemed as if the oxygen had been sucked out of the room. My little mind raced, and on that day, a lifelong love of film was born. Some 45 years later, my film collection is absolutely massive. But Star Wars is special to me. To quote C-3PO, George, “this is all your fault.”

While I certainly understand the angst (for lack of a better word) that has built over the years with all of his tinkering, I still have a real fondness for the man, and the world he introduced to us. And while I may be in the minority, they are his creations, and I feel he should have the right to make changes as he sees fit, provided that the original versions of the films are also available. And that’s where Harmy’s work comes in, for me. I have the Despecialized v2.5 of Star Wars (I can’t ever call it “A New Hope”. Ugh). I would like to get the latest release of each of the original trilogy.

So, my journey begins!

Cheers, all, and May the Force Be With You! Bill

ALRIGHT, did not mean to post the template first off, so allow me to edit this and introduce myself properly.

Hey everyone! I’m pretty new to these forums though I’ve explored them and the fanedits that have come around from the dedicated and incredible members here, so now I’ve implored to become a part of the community! Likely won’t post too often, though who knows how that’ll turn out… and, hell, currently in the midst of work on my own sequel trilogy edit.

Of course, I’ve kept up with Star Wars for a long time, I remember having books as a kid for lore details about the varying creatures, people, and factions of the universe. The whole construct of this massive galaxy far, far away from our own has been and will continue to be so riveting to me.

That combined with my adoration for editing, visual effects, and sound, made the fanediting and creation side of things a wonderous way to engage in the fandom - especially with the wide amount of resources made available by the ABSOLUTELY fantastic creators already established here.

So I do hope you’re all having a wonderful time today, and I’ll leave off this introduction with a fair how-do-you-do to this corner of the internet. I’ll also check out the Discord, if I can, and might be more active there anyway…

Hello Folks,

Today’s my first day on this site. I’ve been a lifelong fan of Star Wars. Being just a toddler when Return of the Jedi was released in the theaters, I don’t remember ever “seeing” the movies a first time because they were pretty much a constant part of my childhood. I don’t remember being gifted Star Wars action figures, I just always had them 😃

That said, I’m not much of a fan of anything beyond the original trilogy. So I’ve struggled with a love/hate relationship as I saw wealthy individuals and corporate entities turn something nostalgic and meaningful into a cash cow that wrecked what I loved. I had kinda given up and distanced myself from it the past few years, but as my children have heard about Star Wars at school and what-not, I decided I couldn’t just allow them to learn about it the wrong way - they had to know the OT. And introducing them to the movies has reminded me just how much I really do love the OT.

I just found out about the despecialized edition this week and will be watching it with my family soon. Thanks to all the fans and contributors that have made that possible. I’m not a film editor or even a film junkie, I don’t watch TV at all and don’t follow pop culture. I’m just a serious fan of the OT and I’m glad to have found a place where I can feel comfortable being that type of fan.

I registered here 11 years ago, today. I have mostly lurked over the years. Though it was frequent lurking. I always enjoyed catching up on threads every so often and watching passionate progress. I watched both with interest and as entertainment. It is amazing how discussions have changed over the years. What were dreams of seeing the OT again have evolved into discussions on which viewing of the OT is best. How blessed we are now! Thank you to all who have actively contributed to these efforts.

Hello There,

I decided to join today because a good friend of mine and I are huge Star Wars Fans. We also plan to visit the place where the magic that is Star Wars was created and travel to Tunisia.

But this probably won’t happen in the near future. So instead I want to make my friend a present for his Birthday he will really enjoy, versions of the Original Trilogy as they were originally intended. As we are both younger than the Special Editions, we sadly never have been able to experience this.

Also thanks to those working hard to preserve the films as they used to be. I first came into contact with film preservation with the Back to the Future ride film by Themaxleydog and learned how much effort it takes to accomplish something like this. So thank you to every single one out there for doing their part to preserve great movies.

Hello, thanks for having me here!

I’ve started watching Star Wars since the summer of 1977, and every release since then in the theaters. My first Star Wars toy was an empty box, promising 4 action figures sometime in the near future, which seemed like years but was only months. Just a week ago I took my 6 year old son to Disney, and we piloted the Millennium Falcon and both of us were thrilled, and he noted that I was in Chewy’s spot, he in Han Solo’s seat. I am indeed a fan.

I have a home theater projection set up at home, in my living room with 15 foot ceiling, huge classic Polk audio SDA speakers in front and for rear, magnapans also for center, full range speakers for surround and height, the sub is giant competition size with 18" ported dr crankensteins and sits connected to the couch for extra effect, each pair of speakers has their own dedicated amp, 1080p Panasonic projector to a 150" screen from 15 feet away from the couch.

I have the first dvd box set, long before blu-ray.

Recently I picked up an oculus quest 2, and have been using the light saber to train to fight darth vader.

Using a bit of choreography, my son and I have been dressing up and dueling with Kyber Light Sabers now for almost 2 years, and from a distance we look like two jedi fighting. Most little kids just want to hit hard at everything, but he’s learned to control his movements carefully to keep dueling.

I’ve watched all the episodes in order of release, and in story order so many times, and it never gets old, only better. Even still there is so much to learn with every viewing. George Lucas told a very good and long tale, with plenty of lessons to be learned by us all.

Hi! New guy in town! I just discovered these forums as part of the rabbit hole Project 4K77 has led me down and wanted to join because I saw that these forums are active with folks who not only want to preserve Star Wars, but other properties. Looking forward to being a member of the community and learning a lot more about preservation!

Hi all, Jon here. I used to have an account on this forum in the 2000s where I was fairly active but that email and account are long lost (this was in the pre 2006 DVD days!). Realized I wanted to jump back in and be able to converse. Loved a lot of the more recent fan efforts like Harmy’s restorations, of course. We’ve come a long way since those early days!

I’m not one for long intros. I’m here to talk things SW, and other stuff, too.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

Hello! Like many of you I grew up on star wars and now have a young one I’m wanting to introduce to it, but the absence of the versions I remember has been devastating! So happy to learn that something like this exists and anyone please feel free to message me if I can help in any way (i’m a software engineer by trade but i have some broad tech skill that may apply somewhere, hopefully!).
