Hi and welcome to the OriginalTrilogy•com. In a bid to help welcome new members on the site this thread has been created for people to drop in, say ‘Hi’, and maybe introduce themselves…

This thread is not just for new members… but also for those who have recently joined, or some who post infrequently here. For those of you who would like to share a little about yourself - maybe your story of how and why you came to this place, what the Original Trilogy films (or Star Wars) - means to you… or, as mentioned above, just somewhere to say ‘Hi’.

Many people on here just like to chat Star Wars… whether that’s mainly the Original Trilogy (and also the copious continuing changes made to it over the years), or the Prequel & Sequel Trilogies, the Standalone Stories, various animated tv series, The Holiday Special (shudders), the Ewok films, literature, comics, art, soundtracks & audio, collecting, gaming, and the future of the ‘Galaxy Far Far Away’ - or members who just talk about life in general in the Off Topic sections.

A fair few people join here for a particular the Preservation Project, Fan Edit, documentary, blu ray or dvd cover etc. We ask that those who do… also have a look around; see if there are other Projects, Edits or works of interest to your liking. To give the Star Wars discussion threads a read through, or those in the Off Topic sections. To have a think about becoming a part of the community here; and consider not becoming a one-time poster… asking for a link to a project and to never be seen again.

Many of the projects on here have been undertaken by volunteers or enthusiasts who’ve devoted considerable time, effort, dedication and some expense… to locate, preserve, restore & archive - or edit - films and TV programs in their best possible presentation. This is often with painstaking commitment - yet all projects are available for free; not to mention our members also improving upon & sharing techniques, knowledge, technical assistance, experiences - and a few stories, along the way.

Joining up here and then creating a new thread along the lines ‘Give me the link to X’, ‘Where is project Y’, or going straight into a project thread and posting ‘How do I get these?’ doesn’t really fly on here - and will likely be ignored or deleted. Taking the time to learn about a project - by reading through the project thread - as well as how to acquire them; simply making an effort to be part of the community here, and how this place works, can go a long way…

The OT•com is a place for respect & civility on all of Star Wars - especially so for the Original Trilogy films (obviously) - yet also for everything else from the ‘Galaxy Far Far Away’ too. Yes, even The Holiday Special, maybe…

We’re a diverse and welcoming community - the upshot is ‘Be Civil - Be Cool’; passionate - yet cordial discussion & wide-ranging views are welcome - toxicity, repeated negativity, trolls & WUMs are not.

We hope you enjoy your time on here - as thousands of others already have, currently do, and will - in the future to come 😃

There are also several Index Threads pinned at the top of many respective sections of the OT•com - which may help members find various topics of discussion, fan edits, preservations and other projects etc.

’An OriginalTrilogy.com timeline thread - a history of the site and why & how it came to be…’ chronicles both the history of this site & also it’s continuing evolution.

The ’Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes’ thread by doubleofive contains many sources of information as to the numerous changes made to the Original Trilogy films over time - as well as serving as an insightful and comprehensive discussion thread and reference point on the subject.

Finally, the ’George Lucas: Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist…' thread attempts to highlight and catalogue some of the revisionism, altering of history and contradictory claims by George Lucas / Lucasfilm as to the formation, planning and history of the Star Wars films and universe therein.

I find that answer vague and unconvincing. Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? And say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

This is George (no, not Lucas), and like all of you, I’m hoping for the anamorphic transfer that Harmy has prepared. Limited editions of the originals are prohibitively expensive and also non-anamorphic, so may the Force be with Harmy to bring us all we need. 😃

Hello!

The TLDR of why I’m here is my quest for a version of the OT that is more true to what I grew up watching.

My son was born last month, and I found myself wondering what kind of world he would grow up in without access to a non-special-edition Star Wars… How would I introduce him to this wonderful universe?

He’s a little over seven weeks old. He’s alive, and eating, so now I’m clearly on to other priorities, like figuring out a watch order and how old he needs to be to start watching different movies and shows. I guess I have some time.

My Star Wars fanhood came as a bit of a shock to me, honestly. I’d always liked the movies, even the Ewok and Droid cartoons as a child when I didn’t know any better. But I’d never considered myself a Star Wars nerd until just last year.

Back in 2012 or so I got suckered by my local game store’s owner into being a game master for the beta version of Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars: Edge of the Empire role-playing game.

Never again will I run a beta, at least, not with such unforgiving, rules lawyers as such that wandered into the [as per policy] open game at the shop.

But what it did open up to me is the entire world of fan-fiction, Wookieepedia, and countless articles on what is or isn’t “cannon”, as I went down one rabbit hole after the next to feed my brain for content to make an original and entertaining game for my players, while trying to preserve the spirit and tone of the universe. Eventually, I settled on treating Legends as a sort of DC’s 52-universe, or as I’ve heard the attitude attributed to the old George: “Sure. That all happened.”

By and large, I would entertain any aspect of the EU. Except midi-chlorians. Those were right out.

(Actually one of my players had the theory that midi-chlorians are something that “Crazy Uncle Qui-Gon” made up, and the other Jedi just kind of let him go along with it and keep that tinfoil on his head; he wasn’t hurting anyone, and he was a respected member of the council.)

Fast-forward to attending an RPG con in St. Louis in 2018. At another table was an event. Star Wars trivia. No way would I ever go toe-to-toe with another Star Wars fan on trivia. However, the team ended up using a lifeline and asking the other tables. To pick which table they were going to ask, they polled the room for anyone who was a “Star Wars expert.” No way. Don’t waste your lifeline on me, dude.

“…What was Luke’s call sign on Hoth?”

As the answer flew into my head before the judge reading the question even lifted his head, I thought with such joy, Oh my god! I’m a Star Wars nerd!

And I’ve embraced it ever since. By no means am I an expert or do I read all the books and comics, but I can at least tell why that special ed. shot of young Luke wielding a gray lightsaber is very, very wrong.

Hi OT.com, I’ve never signed up here, but have visited the place infrequently over the years to keep up with the multitude of fan preservation/restoration projects. I’ve been keeping up with the efforts since finding Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited on here many years ago.
I like to have the ‘best’ copy of these childhood favorites available for when I choose to enjoy them again. Way back that used to be WookieGroomers versions, how far we have come with resolution, color grading, 35mm scans and an official Blu Ray release of the special editions to fall back on is wonderful. Just wanted to say hi, new account but not new to the site or scene.

Hi. I too am exploring options to watch Star Wars. Not an enthusiast by any stretch, but the edits and their reception need no introduction.

Other than that my varied interests include Nintendo, Rumiko Takahashi, superheroes, mecha (or occasionally Mega Man-style robots), etc.

Hey all. I’m also new here. But I’ve been lurking for a long time. I hope to finally see some of these.

I really want to like these movies.

Big fan of Star Wars here (really ?), I just discovered this awesome site by doing searchs on the famous SC 38 remimagined scene. I realize now that there are really some quite fantastic works achieved by the fans, and I’m here to watch this kind of stuff.

Thanks to all of you passionates who are working for others passionates (like me) !

Hi I’m new here! Been a SW fan since the OT came back to theaters in 1997!

Well, I guess I’m still new enough here. My first experience with Star Wars was renting Ep1 from Hollywood Video when I was 9 and liking it enough that when they stopped being rented my parents bought it for me. I saw Ep2 in theaters on my birthday, months after it had been released and Skipped school to see Ep3 on opening day. I saw 4-6 on Summer vacations after seeing 1 but could only watch them when my parents were at work. I can remember trying for months to finish 6, every time I’d put it on my dad would come home. Luckly back then, VHS remembered where you left off, even though some times I’d think I had enough time to watch it from the beginning and then be wrong and have to stop. I never liked conventions but forced myself to go to Celebration 5 when I heard about it, and that con pulled me out of the depression I was getting into around then. Since then, I’ve gone to all of them, and enjoyed being around Star Wars people and in that environment.

My favorite character is Anakin/Vader I just love his story of falling into the darkness and then rising from it at the end.

To me, Star Wars is a brand that means quality, just because it’s a bad SW film, doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie.

Hello there.

I’m in search of the anti-cheese prequels and my quest has lead me hear to the OT.com. After seeing the Despecialized OT, I knew that I needed to see better prequels. Plus the way things are going with the sequel trilogy, we may need fan edits of those too…

Author
Time

Hi. I’m new-ish. I was… a Star Wars fan until the prequels tried to ruin that… The straw that broke this camel’s back was hearing from a friend that worked at Pixar that they had to talk Lucas out of a Yoda fart joke. I’ve recovered mostly now 😃 Through the magic of de-specialization and I have a good psychiatrist. I collect Alien and Blade Runner memorabilia. I also enjoy long walks on the beach, recovering Yithian artifacts and macrame. That last sentence was mostly apocryphal. I’ll let you decide which parts 😃

Author
Time

Hi, I’m new here. I actually enjoyed the prequels which is probably because I grew up with them. My favourite character is Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader this is likely due to The Clone Wars doing wonders for Anakin as a character.

Howdy, I figured I’d post my first post here to introduce myself…

Do people really read these introductions? 😃

Well, for those of you who do…

I’m an IT guy, like Video Games (working on my own game) and just about everything Sci-Fi. Star Wars has always been a favourite of mine since it the first movie that was released back in 1977. I don’t I actually watched it until the 80s when it came out on VHS, but I did see Empire Strikes Back in the theatre! 😃

I thought I’d join this forum to add to my Sci-Fi outlet/sources as you can never go wrong with Star Wars.

Cheerz.

Hello everyone. I haven’t looked at fan edits in years. I kind of forgot about them. A friend suggested watching the prequel trilogy the other day and it reminded me how we don’t have to watch the theatrical releases; there are better options.

Hey Everyone, My name is Christopher looking forward to checking the hard work of individuals here. I’m 50 and have a 2yr old son who may never see the real Star Wars. I’ve been a big fan of the original trilogy starting in 77.I remember warping my Beta then VHS tapes then having to buy another VHS set later. When DVDs came out I thought, “they’ll put the original OT soon”. Everyone else was re-releasing their stuff, why wouldn’t they. I eventually got the 2006 set. Then they cleaned the print up and released Blu-rays. “Why wouldn’t they clean up the Solo/Greedo scene and the other bits they altered through out the OT and release it as an over priced Super Special Ultimate Retro Edition???”, but they didn’t. So disappointed at Lucas, I was there since the beginning, how could you forget about me and millions of others. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going all antifa, I just couldn’t be leave it.
I’m here and looking forward to see who has the closest version of the OT. I’ve got so many copies already so I have plenty copies so I qualify.
Anyway, I’m glad to be here, thank you.

That’s a very familiar story here. I came here shortly before my second child was born, also wondering if either of my kids were ever going to be able to see the Star Wars trilogy. I initially came here just looking to see if there was an anamorphic version of those 2006 DVD’s, or instructions for how to do it myself, I swear…

…but seven years and change later, and I’m still here, with an altered mission. If once you start down the geek path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Best of luck in your endeavors.

And for the record, my first kid is kinda meh on Star Wars, but my second loves it. Kids these days.

Hello there! I’ve made a few posts around and replied to a couple threads but I never introduced myself. I am, of course, a massive Star Wars fan. I don’t remember the version of the OT that I watched as a child, but I am certain that it was an early VHS release and not the awful Special Editions because I remember catching the ANH SE on TV a few years later and scratching my head at the new Jabba scene. Anyhow, I’ll try not to be too longwinded from here on out. I am all for media preservation, (even the Holiday Special which I thankfully have not been subjected to), and really into cosplay whenever I can afford it. (My first Star Wars related purchase I want to make is Anakin’s Lightsaber and costume. Hopefully for Halloween.) Anyway, I’m rambling. I guess one last thing of interest is I am a prequel fan. They aren’t that great as movies go, but the ideas were amazing and just needed more time to cook, which is what I intend to do overtime. Anyway, I’m ramblimg again. I’m pretty boring outside of that so I’ll wrap up and go back to rewriting scrips. See you later.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

A belated ‘hi and welcome’ to everyone who has posted in here so far - and also thank you for doing so 😃

Darth Giacomo - I’m looking forward to reading your intriguing Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace re-written script when I get the chance - nice one 😃

Hello all.

I found out about the Harmy Despecialized and TN1 fan edits of our Original Trilogy by accident.

I was searching to see if non-Special Edition versions were even available.

Found links to some info about these and here I am.

This community is fantastic.

I have the blu-ray box set of the first two trilogies and, like most other fans, was very upset with many of the changes that destroyed the originals.

I was not old enough to view Star Wars in 1977 when it was first released, but I do have fond memories of Empire and Jedi.

I saw Empire at our drive-in that closed long ago and Jedi in our theater that has been closed for the last few decades.

Empire is by far my favorite, but when Jedi came out I was at that age where slave Leia was a sight to behold.

So back then I suppose it ranked a little higher on my list. 😉

Anyway, my mother bought the OT on VHS at our local Target when it was first released and we watched them to death.

I have all the 25GB NJVC ISOs of Harmy’s work downloaded right now and have burned and watched the actual movies on my Samsung 65" UHD… they were awesome!

I’m trying to figure out if my burner will write to 50GB DL discs and, if so, I’ll purchase some DL discs and download the NJVC 50GB ISOs instead.

Probably give this first set to my mom (she hates the Special Edition changes too).

In the mean time I need to get my post count up.

I see there is a forum member that prints artwork to our discs and I’d like to get that done.

Looks really professional!

But there is apparently a minimum post count required to get in on this.

In the mean time thanks for allowing me in and for all that you do.

You guys rock!!!

Hello Friends!
I’ve arrived here by way of Harmy’s DEED and solkap’s instructions on how to create a BD of the movies. I had no memory of the movies looking THAT GOOD.

Soon I’ll introduce my 4 year old to Star Wars and then have to sit down and figure out what order to introduce all of the other movies and cartoons.

Right now I’m headed over to the Tech Support pages to see if anyone knows why my burn has about a 1 second pause when Solo asks the troopers at the bottom of the gangplank if they can give us a hand with the scanning equipment. Is the laser changing layers because it’s a very clean pause? Bad Burn? etc.

Happy to have found OT.com!
