The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

The edit of TPM I'm working on removes Ani completely.  I've shifted the focus to Qui-Gon since he's in almost every scene.  I've tried to show that he's a bit of a rogue.    He gambles and flirts with Shmi (who is Watto's shop help) and get's her to help the gang out.  He breaks Jedi codes because the Jedi have become too passive.  Hopefully this will add to Luke's own restlessness in the OT.  Also cutting Ani's parts don't really subtract that much from the running time.

could the same be done with TPM perhaps? with the film opening with the naboo cruiser running the blockade? the opening music from ANH could be used pretty nicely perhaps?

This is how my edit of TPM starts, mirroring the capture if leia in ANH.  I've also tried to make the movie more of a stand alone movie.  The most radical thing I think I've done though is I've eliminated Jake Lloyd completely, but the plot of the film stays more or less the same.  Strangely I've left Jar-Jar (who I hate less), in the film, but will change his voice later (I was thinking Polish maybe).  I've got the video whittled down and assembled pretty much the way I want it, but haven't touched the audio yet.  I've also tried to remove the more egregious CG elements to make it look closer to the OT.  I've approached te whole thing as if it were say 1974 and Uncle George made TPM.  It'll never be prefect, but Jake Lloyd makes me wanna kill (where as Jar-Jar only makes me want to hit things.)  Mr. Binks becomes much more palatable if you can't hear him.

IMHO CGI are too intangible.  The lighting is off or something.  As for stop-motion, I find it charming.  I wouldn't dismiss a painting because I can see the brushstrokes.  The SE often suffers from too much background stuff.  Every scene what chok-a-block full of whirling droids and bumbling aliens.  At some point it stops being a living universe and starts becoming a needless distraction.  And I don't know how someone who balks at the AT-ATs in ESB because they look fake, can even stand to watch the Jabba scene in ANH:SE.
