I really don't think that indicates a flashback. It probably just points to a new line of Hasbro toys with Episode 7 themed packaging. If I recall, for years now, any toys regardless of the movie had Darth Maul on the packaging. Same idea.

Also, using the 'build-another-model' gimmick allows them to sell rehashed models from previous lines that they already have the moulds for.

You may be right.  Bespin Luke and Bespin Vader (among other OT characters) were released in the AOTC line with AOTC packaging.

So is "Ren" the new "Sith"?  I hope that wasn't to avoid using the term Sith, since the name did exist long before the prequels.

Hm...

Kylo Ren isn't his real name, but rather a title. He also isn’t a Sith. He’s a member of an organization known as “The Knights Of Ren" and he is allied with the First Order.  Also, his lightsaber isn't a relic - it is something he put together himself.

While the term "Sith" did exist before the PT, I don't believe it was formally used in the OT.  It seems like TFA is going back to the roots of the series.

Although the word Sith was never specifically used in the actual moved, it was a part of the official canon back when they were making the movies.
"Two metres tall. Bipedal. Flowing black robes trailing from the figure and a face forever masked by a functional if bizarre black metal breath screen - a Dark Lord of the Sith was an awesome, threatening shape as it strode through the corridors of the rebel ship."
- p. 11 of the SW novelization from 1976.
"Towering above them in his black cloak and concealing black headgear, Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith, entered the main control deck, and the men around him fell silent."
- p. 42 of the ESB novelization from 1980.

"...and finally Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith, emerged from the void."
- p. 4 of the ROTJ novelization in 1983.

This is how Vader was introduced in all of the three original novelizations. Always a variation of the same phrase; "Dark Lord of the Sith."

Did the novels ever go into any detail about the Sith?

You totally missed the point of my post.  I read the article, I know it's not his real name/it's a title.  My point was about the behind-the-scene reasoning of that, if Abrams is avoiding using the word "Sith"/making "Darth" a title, so he created "Ren" instead.

My bad.  I know they've pushing the "this won't be like the prequels" angle, but I doubt they would go that far to avoid using that term since the term existed before the PT and I'm sure Abrams and Kasdan know that.  But since Kylo Ren isn't a Sith, then it would be appropriate to not call him a Sith.

I know nothing about the story and maybe a new trailer will convince me that the movie will be watchable. The former two teasers didn't.

So, was there a new trailer announced?

Abrams said in an interview that the trailer will premiere this fall, but he wasn't specific when in the fall.  I imagine before November.

That is definitely General Hux.  Nice to see redheads aren't extinct in the Star Wars universe. :-) Anyway, in the newest shot we see all the troopers facing him, but in the second teaser, they quickly turn around.  I wondering why they turn around.  Are they going to march to war or are they turning to look at something?

Also, I'm not sure if this has been pointed out already, but one of these shots in the second teaser has been flipped.  You'll notice the scar on Ridley's cheek switches sides.  For what it's worth...

Based on what we've heard and seen so far, I'm guessing Luke and Leia won't have much screen time.  It seems like Han and Chewie will have more significant roles in the film since they interact directly with at least two of the main characters.   R2 and C3PO probably won't have much screen time, either.

Apparently no one read this regarding Lando from Lawrence Kasdan.

Right now, there’s no Lando Calrissian in this movie [The Force Awakens]. But Lando I don’t think is finished in any way, shape, or form.

This doesn't sound very hopeful.

Do we know when they'll start filming Episode VIII?  If they haven't started already?

Well, they're filming Rogue One as of right now.  I'm guessing they wouldn't start principal shooting till the beggining of 2016.  But they concieveably shoot some second unit starting late fall.

I'm just not sure whether they'd want to start principal filming before TFA's release, given just one little overhead set photo could spell possible spoilers if they aren't careful enough.

That's a good point.  There's already speculation about Hamill returning since he was seen sporting a beard recently.
