Info: Mad Max Rarities/Road Warrior Japanese DVD
Time

sorry for the thread bump but wanted to mention that about a year or two ago I finally acquired that rare super limited Australian vhs release for Mad Max 2. It does have what was deemed the x-rated footage (arrow and boomerang) but that appears to be about it. The sex scene in tent still plays in fast motion and the various attacks were the same as the normal R rated. I know rumors had this tape having all sorts of extra goodies but none of that appears to be true. The only thing I really need to check is the sound since some of it in terms of effects and such seemed different

Are you sure you want to match that bottom picture, it has a terrible green colour cast.

I can walk you through it if you can run Davinci Lite.

actually forget what i said. Will hookup my win7 hard drive into the pc and just do a few things of copying. Would love your walkthrough guide

not sure if you need it, but both source specs actually match, they are both interlaced, 720x480 and straight at 29.97, no pulldown of any kind, both Top field first

Need some help color correcting an old VHS
Time

ok I did download the lite, problem I have is that I am still on XP and it will only run on win 7 64 bit. I do have that as well but I really do not have it hooked up and fully going, so at this point I would need something with Winxp

I see what you mean by the green-ish tint. The bottom pic is from a released dvd (way oop) and the other pic is from the not so nice vhs tape. I am pretty sure that the green hue is throughout the film. Here is another snap shot since you had a better eye to see the green better than I was. If it is still present, safe to say the whole film would be like that. If it is not present it seems to be just on the snapshot I took from that scene

At any rate yes I still want the vhs to look closer to the bottom picture in post#1. Does not have to be exact, just more so in the same range. The project is a composite so most already interested know what they are getting and the sources used.

Need some help color correcting an old VHS
Time

I am working on a project now that needs some minor color correction. I have done this kind of thing before but for some reason I am having a hard time getting closer or matching the colors in this pic

I am trying to get the image on the left to be as close as possible to the image on the bottom right, but I just cannot nail it at all.

I do have virtual dub, avisynth, sony vegas etc and played around with them

Can anyone offer any help on this one? Maybe I am just not getting the right red/green/blue combo

Idea & Ideas Wanted: for a 'The Black Hole Revised' edit...
Time

The Nerd said:

How many the old 1979 Disney film "The Black Hole"? If you don't know, it's basically Disney's answer to Star Wars. Now, I must say that the effects are pretty good for the time, not as good as Star Wars, but still good. Watching the film again a few times recently, I realized that a few mistakes were in the film: A crew member can be seen, objects change places in the same scene, all the usual stuff. So I've decided to go in and fix those mistakes as well as improve the effects. Here's a short list of some of the changes:

  1. The robots will sound more like robots.
  2. Ship engines will be fixed to look better.
  3. When V.I.N.CENT and Maximilian fight, more sparks and wire will shoot out of Max.
  4. End Credits: All who worked on the film will be mentioned, all those who were uncredited will be given credit.
  5. End Credits: Credits will be inserted for all who help out in this project.
  6. Erasing all the cables that support the flying robots.
  7. The star field will be enhanced.

If anybody has any other ideas, feel free to tell me. All help will be welcomed.

I say go for it!

Audio processing is (almost) over; italian PCM and english DTS and AC3 are ready; only english PCM is missing - don't know if/or preserve analog soundtrack, though...

understood, but if you ever find (for whatever reason) a need in your project for the Japanese disc, let me know because I have it

Which version (reference nr.) have you?

disc has 2- the upper has CIC video: UD104566

and along the bottom we have PILF-2560

back in the day there was a rumor that the theatrical Japanese version of the film was a bit bloodier than the standard theatrical in the US. The  Japanese LD was also supposed to have had this cut of the film but it was all false rumors. Still the picture looks very nice

I finished to capture everything; aligned the three italian captures perfectly for the median process; still working on audio parts.

Ahhh. Thanks for the info. Curious is the Japanese LD release for the Lost world needed for this project at all? For what I can recall thought it had a better looking picture than the US LD version

I don't know if the japanese NTSC version of JP2 is better than the US NTSC... as I have not it, I couldn't use it into my project; but, as PAL has better resolution, I decided to use the italian laserdisc for the video part.

understood, but if you ever find (for whatever reason) a need in your project for the Japanese disc, let me know because I have it

I am still a bit in the fog on this and his other Jurassic park project. Are the released blurays screwed up? Other than the sound I am not following the point of all the various video sources being used

The Bluray release features a cropped video and altered soundmix (sounds were added that weren't there originally).

The aspect ratio is still 1.85:1, but the framing has been changed and zoomed-into, cutting off picture information from all four sides. Though only certain scenes are not too heavily cropped and display different framing than the laserdiscs.

The JP[rules] project was undertaken to restore the wider and taller (in most cases) laserdisc framing and the original 5.1 DTS track (also used theatrically). As for using different video sources- The PAL disks fade out at the end of a disk, and fade in on the other end. The NTSC discs don't, hence the NTSC ones are used in those particular scenes.

Its all explained by the undertaker, in the project introduction at the top of the first page, so have a look.

Ahhh. Thanks for the info. Curious is the Japanese LD release for the Lost world needed for this project at all? For what I can recall thought it had a better looking picture than the US LD version

I may have missed this in the frenzy, but do you guys still need the LD for audio? I might have a lead on getting that disc for very, very cheap so I need to know

Yes as of right now we do not have the ripped audio from the LD, how cheap is cheap lol.

I have a guy that gets me all my bit perfect rips but he always asks to keep the LD when it is done.

about 2.50$ though i need to see how much for shipping--

I know that a few people took my Suspria and ripped the audio, posting it online for others to use. A few took that, made their own and took credit for it. Whatever. No big whoops. I just wish they'd give credit where credit is due.

For me, credit goes to drsd2kill. He's the man. he made Suspiria happen. Without him, it wouldn't have happened.

Hey DJ, PM sent back-

ahhhhh thanks for posting that name. Hey DJ that anchor bay with laserdisc audio was from Matt's friend. Hey Matt I was talking with your friend quite a bit concerning the My bloody valentine dvd, though on the imdb.com forums I go by a different name than Tranzor

OK I now have this version of Suspiria as well,

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Suspiria-Blu-ray/14521/

now I need to find the Anchor Bay DVD, anyone have this for sale by any chance? and get the LD audio ripped.

Hey DJ

I can help you with a few things

1. I have the anchor bay dvd (which can be replicated for you)

2. I have the US laserdisc (Image disc right?) and a mid range player (my high end one, which was one model below an elite died out a long ways back), but i can capture that disc and have the sound recorded as pcm. i do have equipment here with a digital in (ones with a similar coax wiring) but I need to check the LD player to see what sort of digital out it has (might have that other type that looks like a plug in).

However if an analog to pcm (or wave) capture is still fine with you i can def do that

3. I also have a dvd (dual layer) someone made that has the anchor bay dvd picture and a pcm direct audio capture from the laserdisc. I am not sure if this is the same disc Matt was talking about? For  another reference, the person who made this also made the My Bloody Valentine dvd that had the newer rights changed audio, the fixed vhs audio and another track that had the original audio on the left channel and the newer audio on the right channel.

let me know if I can help out in any way--

Just skimming through the 3 DVD version now - thanks to all involved and am wondering why the use of a different (decent) source for the killing of Kurtz. Was this missing on the workprint ?

the Kurtz Compund was a deleted scene. This was given as an extra on one of the early dvd releases, so after the workprint finishes out with the laserdisc (which was the only source at the time since the dvd did not exist yet), I then later on added in the Kurtz compound destruction since that was truly the way the film was going to end. As you can see it flows very smoothly from the laserdisc ending making this the longest known version out there at I believe 5hrs and 36 mins

Star Wars Re-imagined? (an animated fan film)

It's difficult to describe since I really haven't seen anyone doing what I have in mind, but the characters in the film "Appleseed Ex Machina" is a step in the right direction.  It will have the look and feel of drawn comic book art, but rendered in a computer without the obvious "video game" look.  The problem with a lot of cg animation today, is that it just looks too fake and that pulls the viewer out of the story.  I want to avoid that.

my issue with Appleseed is that it still looked like a video game cut scene with sort of bland emotionless faces. However if you have it similar to that but without that dead video game look, I think you might really have something there. Either way I would def watch it if you go through and create it

I didn't see any extra spaces but the link I saw had a bunch of %20 stuff and when I removed all that I got a page with all the links.  Not that it matters anymore.

moviejim is a piece of work anyway.  I doubt this would be worth the bother.

Hmm not sure then if when I saw it they were changed but none of those links had the %20 when I checked. At any rate i was curious because he removed everything that I thought killed those films. However since he himself has yet to respond to his own topic, I just might take your word for it in concerns to his edit

At any rate, this slipped under the radar as direct links are a no-no.  Expect it to disappear soon.

yes I did and when I highlighted (firefox) none of the links had any extra spaces nor the infamous %20, so even when they were listed it (much less of figuring out exactly where to add them) it was still a no go,
