Song Of The South - many projects, much info & discussion thread (Released)

Something I would love is if Disney decided to do some kind of Criterion style box set of the life's work of Walt Disney which included films like Song of the South where the general population may not have a huge interest in it, but it would be huge for collectors and film buffs.

I would be interested in that, and I'd love it if it included all their disney classic animation films, unmolested from the rotoscoping/degraining restoration in their pure grainy form as they were presented at the theaters! (something that again most people wouldn't have interest in).

I would be extremely happy and moved if they looked like the new Land before time Bluray!

Sorry if I sound anxious (can't help it), but is there any update on this?

(and Alice in Wonderland that was mentioned)

The scans are all done of Fantasia and Alice, just looking for anyone that wants to handle the restoration, I really do not have enough time even if I cloned myself. The files are currently in the US.

Thanks for your reply.

Are the raw scans that bad that need restoration?

I mean, the raw scan of Jurassic park was by all means watchable.

And by restoration you mean artifact/dust removal and color/gamma/brightness correction?

As opposed to seeing the less beautiful black girl being the servant of a more beautiful white girl in the original?

I didn't say that there isn't any controversy in the original either.

If you noticed I said that by trying to correct one controversy he creates another.

So, there's really no way of correcting this without any controversy (unless you delete the whole character as Disney did)

What's wrong with the current Blu Ray? My Fantasia knowledge isn't up to snuff.

It's degrained to death (like all Disney animation Blurays), and has drastically altered colors.

Really curious to see how are the colors in this scene!

(some claim that the sky Blue is the original color, but I'm not convinced)

I tried to reply before, but couldn't due to the forum problems.

Bless you poita and everyone involved for this!

Fantasia is my 2nd favourite animation film (after Beauty and the Beast), and to think that I could see it as it was originally presented, I cannot find the words to describe what I'm feeling....

Looking forward also to news about Alice, the first Disney animation film I ever saw (on TV on a day of the Easter holiday week), so it holds a very special place in my heart!

kk650's Miscellaneous Regraded Films (Released)
Time

Kk650 I guess you wouldn't be interested in something like this, judging from the films you're tackling, but the King and I Bluray is really off!

It has a blue blanket all over it!

Help: looking for... The Land Before Time (1988) - full original uncut version
Time

Oh, I didn't know of any uncut version!

Very interesting!

So, i guess this too:

"Brief portions of the scene which showed the mother's neck and back bitten have since been edited out of home-video releases and television airings, though this footage was present both in the theatrical cut and on earlier VHS copies of the film."

isn't found on DVD and HDTV versions?

Info: Recommended Editions of Disney Animated (and Partially Animated) Features
Time

For anyone interested I just found a 720p HD full screen version of Fox and the Hound! (the Bluray was cropped)

It seems better than the NTSC DVD:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/117760

Although the titles seems to be in German (is it?)

It doesn't seem so in the first comparison, but the grain has been preserved:

I'm not sure though if the English audio is perfectly synced to the image. Haven't seen it yet. Just seen the screenshots.

Also I found an HDTV 1080i version, but that one seems to be 3 minutes shorter and i don't know about its quality.

edit: Oh, it's shorter because it's 25fps, and I think they say it doesn't have good quality.

Idea: 'Toy Story' preservation/restoration - original logo with the original music?
Time

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone has thought of restoring the original logo with the original music in front of Toy Story, so as to have an HD version as presented in theaters.

That change totally disappointed me, as the music is an intergral part of the beginning of the film, and it was not just a logo which you can delete without affecting the film. The logo and the music IS part of the film (in this specific situation)!

I’m searching for months to find an HDTV version of the film I know exists, to see if the logo is deleted there too, but it’s no use.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast [spoRv] BD-25 (Released)
Time

I had contacted a guy in October, and said he has a 16mm Beauty and the Beast with great polyester colors.

Although the language was in dutch.

He was selling it I think for 400 euros.

Anyway, I believe we have 3 votes now for unfiltered Beauty and the Beast.

titanic, screamingtrees and RU.08.

Even if many peope don't like it, I think that a good capture of the LD which sporv did already, should exist, for preservation's sake.

I examined all the feedbacks... I think both versions (filtered Vs unfiltered) have their strenght and weakness, so... why don't use the "best of both world"?

Here you are the screenshot - unfiltered Vs "mix":

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/112945

Opinions?

I don't understand what is the mix, but still preferring the unfiltered one of course.

The filtered version reminds me of the SITS BLuray:

http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleiche/multi_comparison.php?disc1=3269&disc2=3262&cap1=30081&cap2=29998&art=full&image=14&hd_multiID=1363&action=1&lossless=#vergleich

and even if we can't have an HD quality resolution in the original laserdisc, I prefer to see a blurry version of it than the smudged and flat colors.
