UPDATE! Wow I just discovered something by accident. The 2000 UK DVD actually has original Deems Taylor intro, according to this: http://www.ign.com/articles/2000/11/17/fantasia-anthology

I had a Pal VHS that had the original narration but unfortunately I’ve sold it some time ago.
Although I’m one of those that always wants the original film, in Fantasia I don’t mind much because it’s the animation that counts.

I’m happy to report that I will be taking this on, just ordered the blu-ray from US amazon 😃

Oh, thank you so much kk650!! 😃

Here’s another video that I found from hometheater forum, with comparison of previous HD master and bluray.

A German DVD of Sleeping Beauty came out in 2002. Does anyone know if this predates the Lowry restoration? http://www.disneyinfo.nl/dvddetail.php?film=1863

It could be - here are some screenshots: http://imgur.com/a/Q3uIi
Compared to the Platinum/Diamond Edition the picture is slightly cropped and has a more filmic look.

there isn’t any NTSC DVD of this version released?

Maybe the 2003 Special Edition DVD that DoctorM mentions is the same?

By the way, I found some comparisons of this German 2002 DVD with the UK Platinum edition, and indeed it seems pre-restored, with grain:

Has anyone mangled a fair copy from VHS?
Kinda wish we had kept all of our old VHS tapes after seeing the newer Blue ray versions.

In case you haven’t seen it, there is this chance for the 35mm film print preservation, which is the closest to the theatrical experience!

No, it wouldn’t. I swear there was an earlier HD transfer, just not on physical media. Am I misremembering or confusing it with Sword in the Stone?

I don’t think there was ever one.
There was just a comparison of a screenshot from the bluray with an untouched grainy screenshot coming from the menu.

By the way, can someone let me know what shots had their colours altered on the Blu-ray?

well, i think all of it has altered colors.
i would be particularly interested in this (and similar scenes from the end of the first segment, where we had a dark backgound) because the change was so radical.
in vhs and dvd versions it’s like this:
https://s27.postimg.io/jwh2v5qb7/dvd_snapshot_00_09_03_2014_06_22_20_26_06.png

but in the bluray it’s like this:
https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRC0WvR4Y-bRbEcy_q_1-Xo6oBNLxdHZDDRA2KzC2AiLNVhpqZa

i thought the first made more sense. (the light coming out of the darkness)
how is it in the print?

DoctorM do you know if the Hercules DVDs you mention are transfers of a film print/negative?

I found the Gold Colection pocahontas DVD which is the version I will be watching because it has film grain, and I love grain even in CAPS animation.
It gives life to the film (compared to the flat digital look) and also ties all elements (hand-drawn and CGI) together.

I’m afraid I don’t know about Hercules.
A good source to check for details on different versions is DVDizzy (formerly UltimateDisney.com): http://www.dvdizzy.com/disneyanimatedclassics.html

Yes, I know about this.
But the reviewer says this:
“I didn’t notice any problems as far as grain, smudges, or print defects of any kind.”

i don’t understand if he considers grain a problem and this DVD doesn’t have grain, or if the DVD has grain and isn’t presented with any problems.
He doesn’t say where the transfer is sourced from.
Unless the mention of “print defects” implies that this is sourced from a print.

team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)
Time

I wanted to repeat my comment from myspleen:

WOW! What a milestone release!!

Thank you so much about this to everyone involved!
Your dedication to this project was unparallel!

I have one question though:
The 5.1 audio in Harmy’s release was coming from the 70mm 6-track audio, right?
Could that audio sync with this release? (i mean if I extract it from that mkv and insert it in this one).
or is it going to be included in the BD version?

edit: Ok, my questions were replied at the comments section of myspleen.
Apparently the 5.1 audio doesn’t sync with this release.

Molly’s (?) LD preservation has better colors than that Russian DVD:

On another subject, some comparisons of a 35mm print (?) to Bluray of Snowwhite:
