Thanks for the support and on-topic comments everyone. As long as they are about the project, we will continue to post updates, and answer questions.

If posts that are not related to the project, or are off-topic keep appearing, we will continue to report them, and suggest others do also.

We would like discussion to be about this project, thanks.

We are still working on an minor updated version, and also progress on the Bluray version will continue to be our main focus.

We did not post to usenet, so we are not in control of that version. Sorry about that.

Thanks to the members that have made their own audio cuts, and synching projects available to others.

This doesn’t seem to be followed either.

Team Negative1 - Star Wars 1977 - 35mm Eastman Vs Technicolot Theatrical Version (* unfinished project *)

Welcome to the official thread for the discussion of Star Wars 1977 - 35mm Eastman Vs Technicolor Theatrical Version 1.0

=======================================

This is the collective project that is not officially part of OT, or Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, Disney, etc. but in the spirit of preservation, has been put together with the wish to relive the memory of the original 1977 Star Wars Technicolor version.

=========================================

We have made a lot of progress, but we have some more steps to take.

This is the place to keep on top on the when/where/how/who/and why of it.

If you want to discuss technical details, please refer to the Technical forum.

This is just to keep people informed on the status and updates.

What is it? - A conversion/preservation of the 35mm version of Star Wars East vs Technicolor hybrid from:

  1. Kodak Print (6 reels)+1 Extra Reel 3

  2. Various Technicolor references

Who are we? - A group of individuals working on it, color restoration and technical advisory, support

Why? - Because we love the Star Wars Trilogy, and appreciate George Lucas.

When will it be out? - Its done when its done.

Where can we find out more? - Right here.

Technical details

===========================================

Video - Our goal is to have a preserved version that will be released in a high definition 1080p anamorphic MKV 25G, and bluray disc 25G, and a 9G MKV downscale as the final product.

There might be several other downsamples in avi/mp4 later on.

Audio - We will have the 35mm English theatrical mix.

========================================

Thanks from our entire team!

For people that claim we’re ‘ruining’ this section, and people that don’t read or care what we have to say.

That’s a lot of questions to be asking. And asking to ban us seems odd if you are interested.

We are just coming to conclusions based on the what the owners of the prints in question have said.

I’m halfway through watching this and I’ll share my comments:

I agree with others about the intro, I’d suggest removing it as it makes easier for us to add tracks to the film. Also as your objective was to make it looks as original as it could, that takes a little away from it. Of course you guys deserve all the credit and we all love you for doing this, not diminishing any of it!

The intro will remain, but will be separate from the movie. Alternately, you can clip the intro for yourself.

About the missing frames, I would try to add the missing frames from other sources, even GOUT if comes to that. Again, it would help all of us and then this would be a fully complete version.

No, since that is not the intent of the project.

The light bleeding or whatever it’s called is pretty bad in all scenes where there is direct light. Is it still fixable for the BD at this point?

The video is pretty much finalized, that result is inherent in our scan. Some color correction may alleviate this.

As others have said, this is a truly awesome effort and I cannot thank you enough for doing this. This is and will be my go to version from now on. Thanks for everything and looking forward for the BD and your other releases.

We appreciate the feedback.

If you check back over our statements, we would prefer the community fix, and arrange things according to their preferences. We can’t add everything that people want, and satisfy all the requests that people have,
because many conflict with each other, and there would be no end of corrections.

This resource should be considered a starting point for your ultimate version, and that will encourage participation from the board members.
