I got that Nerd Rage
Time

"Nerd rage gets a bum rap. People think that angry nerds are just freaking out about minor continuity mistakes, or taking stuff too seriously. But sometimes, geeks get mad for good reason, and when people assume nerd rage is trivial, it's part of an overall process of belittling geeks.

And when enough geeks get pissed off, it can be a mighty force. If nerd rage could be harnessed as an energy source, it would keep the lights on in Shanghai for a year - and it often helps improve the worlds of geek culture and technology. Here are seven ways that nerd rage can make the world a better place."

That's intro to the article.  I really get behind these things because of the reasons listed in the article. I also believe that tenants listed here can be applied to other areas of society to effect positive change. Free Corporate business practices in how they sell, market and provided services.

One minor example is the practice of many electronics retailer such as best buy who would not sell without getting your soc security #. Now in the past when I have used that example I always get one or two hand waves about how it doesn't happen. But it does. Or at least did. Perhaps Best Buy is a franchise and only certain stores did it, or its a policy that has been dropped or whatever. Point is I been to many stores around the nation that do this and its bullshit. And the vast majority of people I talked about it says "meh, I dont like it but that's the way it is".  NO!!! Apathy allows the practices to occur. If enough people band together and complain bad practices such as that would be terminated.

Could nay sayers bring examples of it not working, sure. But the exceptions do not invalidate the rule.

Silly me I forget the most important part that should really answer your question.  DUH on me.

The most important distinction is that Nerd Rage applies specifically to Nerd or geek type subjects. Such as Sci/fantasy/horror film Console/pC/Tabletop/RPG's  Comics, TV shows and Literature from the same genera.

Well that is interesting question as it depends on your outlook on rage. So many words are used improperly or in slang or figures of speech that rage could be have different meanings and those different meanings to different people could effect the answer.

To put it in a somewhat crass but blunt and clear way, It was explained to me as being upset over things other people dont give a shit about. And while it was called rage it was not really about kicking over stuff and tantrum type rage.

One thing that got me going on a Nerd Rage rant was the Ending of Star Wars EP 3. I thought the ending was sloppy and did not give us a proper lead in to the events of ANH. But the real Nerd Rage came from the Corvettes blue stripe.....ARGHH!  How hard would have been to make it red to match up with the Tantive IV?  And then the lame excuses for it afterwords.

Hmm, its interesting that this is has been associated with outburst and actual rage. I've read about it on many places on the net and its never really been about that kind of reactionary outburst. Of course many words and phrases have multiple or varying meanings so not a huge surprise, just interesting to see the difference.

"When thinking about how Spidey is mistreated, I find it amazing he still goes on doing good. This type of characterization in the story points to a virtue like humility and makes me want to emulate it in my own life. So, when someone attacks the Spidey story or tries to change it as they did in that gawd awful movie that came out this year, it can make me feel as if they’re saying my own story is meaningless.

That, my friends, is the essence of nerd rage. When someone takes your hero and, in your eyes, devalues them you get defensive at your best and angry at your worst."

This is a interesting analysis of the phenomenon

This site is all about Han Shot First. We just don't complain about it here, because it's been complained about all over the place elsewhere.

Well it was an example as I dont think people were grasping the concept which was odd.

Lets try Megatron fom the new movies. Not a gun. That fact can bring about Nerd Rage in some.

That sounds pretty cool! You'll have to share pictures some time.

I can eventually but they probably wont be very flashy or exciting to most.

We use card stock cutout for most piece right now. When its all finished we will print up some pieces. Thing is, as its not anything I can make money back off of, and I am poor, I have to limit my investment to just a few office supplies and cannibalized board game pieces to make then thing. I am not very artsy either. We Use Nato APP 6 symbols for the ground units. For the space we have used WEG with hand drawn Capitol ships but wanted more variety so we use cardstock hand drawn counters for that now too.

Yep it surely wont win any art awards but thats okay for us.

Reboots.

Reboots in General are such an insult to intelligence. What a shame so many lap up recycled history just to enjoy a CGI light show. The little diddy tune "George Lucas Raped My Childhood" seems a bit less outrageous when you see the things that many of us loved as children for their originality and wonder, repackaged like day old donuts just to make a quick buck.

ts why I think things classified as nerd rage would be beneficial if along with the rage came a boycott. I really doubt that many who claim they are so upset wither favorite franchise new choices that are never going to buy anything again ever do. And sadly in America the only thing that really gets consideration is the all mighty dollar.

So when GL served up that latest SW DVD with that god awful NOOO in ROTJ, dont buy that steaming pile of shit. Of course not with Disney that probably would have even less impact then before. But regardless point still stands that any of these company would not walk across the street to piss on a fan unless it brought them in revenue. If you truly want to shape the direction of a franchise or pursuer its integrity. Then deny greedy corporate rapists the only thing they care about...money.

I also think if your the type to really feel strongly about something lie Han Shot First that you take some time to cut people that mock Nerd Rage down a few pegs and here is why. Nerd Rage has had some media coverage and dudes like Ray W Johnson have had some fun with concept on You tube. I am not attacking Ray or saying he did wrong by mocking. It his right and I am violently(metaphoric use of the word) against censorship.

BUT perception is a necessary thing in America so I think its important to explain what Nerd Rage really is and make sure its passed off as being nothing but irrational.

Some of it backed by voting with dollars, and numerous enough voices, can effect Corporate owner thinking as long as the outrage appears credible.
