I didn't know HD formats were anamorphic!

If a widescreen DVD or HD-dvd or blu-ray disc fills your widescreen TV correctly.......then it's anamorphic.

Non-anamorphic widescreen is a 4:3 (square-ish) letterboxed image designed to be shown on a square-ish 4:3 TV.

HD widescreen images aren't designed for old square TVs- they're designed for newer widescreen TVs, so they're anamorphic.

Yes, but don't forget that anamorphic DVD's will also play correctly on old 4:3 square TV's.

I get it. Don't like to wish death on anybody though :-(

I'm not wishing death on anyone - far from it.

I was making a joke about how that's when we will all be allowed to see the OOT in it's proper form. In Soylent Green, just before they die, the people are shown movies of how the world was before mankind ruined it - so they can die peacefully.

I know you were just making a joke :-) BTW Soylent Green is one of my 70's favourites. CH made some damn good sci fi in the 70's!

Personally I hope GL has many happy years to come and he doesn't get done in by diabetes or anything. Heck maybe he'll even have a change of heart over the next dew years, realise his directorial failures and let somebody talented do the next ones :-)

Star Wars Saga on DVD Petition

If you don't want to sign you don't have to, but until I get hard evidence that LF will release a "Grand Ultimate Box Set," I'm still doing this petition.

Hmm, regarding the fixed final cut, not a good idea to rush the guy, that will only produce a rushed lower quality job, better to let him do it properly at his own pace, even if it is a bit slow coming out.

Info Wanted: are preservation projects valid anymore?
Time

I’ve been a reader on this board for quite a while (and used to post under an old forgotten id). I followed all the fan preservation threads with fascination.

But now that the non-anamorphic official DVD’s of the original trilogy have been released I have to ask, are these preservation projects valid anymore? Is anybody going to be able to improve on the official DVD’s?

I look forward to hearing your views 😃
