Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers

Strange request I don’t own a printer and can’t really warent buying one just for a few prints

So my question is if I’m willing to pay a fee and postage would someone print this set of star wars Blu ray covers I’ve acquired off this forum

Print shops will often be willing to print the covers for you, and if you have them do it on glossy brochure paper, they will come out better than the ones you can make at home. My experience is that you just have to make it crystal clear that the prints are only for personal use and not distribution.

Print 100% on 8.5" x 11" and allow full bleed.

If people choose to print at home, I have always recommended 8.5" x 14", since some printers don’t handle margins of less than .25" very well.

I try to avoid print shops as much as possible, due to copyright reasons. That’s why I just print with regular ink jet paper at home, just to be safe.

Just so you know, the worst that would happen if you took some of your projects to a printshop is that they would say “no”. It’s not like there are copyright police that are going to come after you. 😃

You’re obviously a dedicated fan with a flare for graphic design. A printshop might be something worth trying.

Hey Frink. Thats the forum I’m using to distribute my mega links to the NJVC discs. It’s in the first post. 😃

(Also, in case anyone’s curious, the letters were intentional. It’s an acronym for “Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Return Of The Jedi Blu-Ray Mega LinkS”

MCBarkingSpoon, I’ll help you out. I’ll send you a PM in a about 30 minutes. But first…coffee…

Yep, everyone here is well aware of that site. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot anyone can do about it, other than to point out to new users that *** is run by greedy a scumbag who doesn’t care about scamming people, profitting off others non-for-profit work, and endangering the entire availability of the OOT.

Hi Biomedic. Do you have access to public libraries? If you are very patient and very methodical, with a flash drive of sufficient size you could download the necessary files for the stand alone movies from the computers there. It would take several seperate trips, but it could be done.

If what you most want is just to see the films, a 128 gig flash drive should hold a portable version of winrar, all the rars to the MKV versions of all three films found here and have room enough for the extracted MKVs as well.

Once you have all the files to a particular film, you could use a portable version of winrar to unpack them onto that same thumb drive.

Watching them at home without a home computer, though, is a pretty tall order. I don’t think that’ll be possible unless you enlist the help of a friend with laptop you could borrow.

Ah, OK, then an 8.5" × 11" would work for you!

My experience has always been that somewhere between .5" and .25" margins the ability to print gets unreliable. But I’ve never had an Epson printer.

BTW, keep in mind, those screen caps are from Special Editions. Of course, for the majority of movie stills that won’t matter. But just something to remember.

Thank you Ryan!

Yeah, I know what you mean. It can be like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack sometimes! 😃

It’s too bad there isn’t a search built into OT.

One trick another user here taught me was how do a site specific search on google.

You enter:

“__________ site:originaltrilogy.com”

but substitute __________ for your search terms.

Hey Ryan, I know you’re exited about your project, but you’re starting to spam. The answers to all those questions could have been answered with a little searching on your part or with PMs to individual users. And quoting big chunks like that clogs the thread.

As far as the Discs go they are only 720p, but still vastly superior to the official blu-rays. You won’t regret the the effort of getting them! 😃

That all sounds great. Another piece of freeware graphics software that might interest you is GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP).

If you want to reproduce those cases, this site might be helpful:

https://starwarsscreencaps.com/

But also be aware, the producers of everything Despecialized are very much aware of ldsentertainment, and that site and whoever runs it are despised around here for obvious reasons.

Hi again Ryan,

If you are going to use a 12mm blu-ray case, phildesfr’s stuff is already properly sized.

And I believe it already has bleed marks built in beneath the visable design, but even if not, since I do know the size is already correct, just print and take it to an office supply store and trim the edges with their paper trimmer manually to the finished measurements below.

width: 10 7/16" by
height: 5 13/16"

I’d recommend glossy 32 lb (brochure weight) inkjet paper that’s not pre-folded or pre-perforated, 8.5 × 14 inches. It can be a little hard to track down, though. You might have to ask a print shop to buy a few blank sheets of paper like that if you can’t find it to order.

Does anyone use Digistor Blu-Ray discs?

Hi Ryan,

I’ve never tried those and the listings I’m finding look expensive. Is there a reason why you’d prefer them to Verbatim besides the labeling issue? For what it’s worth, I have found that printing over any small bit of writing on the discs covers it better than you might expect.

Dealing with People Selling Fan Projects

Don’t know if this is much of a barometer, but hopefully it’s a good sign.

As of the minute of this post, searching “Despecialized” returns zero hits on eBay. Found this guy (and reported him) by searching google shopping, but it was the only active listing that shows up. And the closest thing that surfaced by searching “Harmy” via methods above was hits of this odd looking children’s book about an anthropomorphic harmonica.

Huh, who knew?

I’m cautiously optimistic, but really, none of that reliably indicates anything.

Anybody have any ideas about how to gauge if bootleg sales might hopefully actually be down?

they’re highly derivative of your set and use many of the assets you’ve provided, so if you feel they’re too similar to your work, please let me know and I’ll happily take the links down.

I don’t presume to speak for phildesfr, but I think it’s highly likely that he’ll be fine with it.

You gave clear credit to him where credit was due when you posted the stuff you put together. Plus, the assets you used are ones he’s shared publicly.

In my humble opinion, it would seem you’re only doing what phildesfr was encouraging in the first place.

Well, if you have your eye on something in particular and you want to be extra sure, there’s always the option to private message (or PM) the user who posted it.

I think most of the designs on this site are designed for 12 mm spine cases, as those are generally the most common size for 2 disc blu-ray sets.

But since there are many slightly different options for cases (here for example) the best thing to do would probably be to buy whatever sized case will work best for your particular project and have them in hand before you start printing artwork.

As you can see from J.D.'s work a few posts back, some do sets of three, four, or more discs per film, by including material beyond what is in the NJVC set alone.

Once you have whatever empty case you choose, you can cut trial and error pieces of scrap paper to double check the precise size your printed insert will need to be.

And if the size you need is slightly larger or smaller than the design you’ve picked by a few mm, use a site like this one to precisely resize photo:

or this one to precisely resize pdfs:

But if you get a 12 mm case, like say this one, most of the designs here should already be all set to print as they are.
