All Things Star Trek
Time

I think Star Trek: The Motion Picture is an underrated movie. I also like Star Trek V, even though I think it’s the weakest of the original six films. I’ll kinda break the “status quo” by saying that The Wrath Of Khan is not my favorite Star Trek movie. Don’t get me wrong, I love TWOK, but I lean more towards The Search For Spock & The Voyage Home. As far as I can tell, they were the first Star Trek movies I remembered (I think).

I’m someone who has grown up with both Star Trek and Star Wars (proof that you can be a fan of both). I became a fan of Star Trek from the movies mostly (but overtime I watched the shows too, for the most part). When I was a kid, I had absolutely no idea that"Even numbered Star Trek movies are good; Odd numbered Star Trek movies are bad" was a thing. My favorite version of the Starship Enterprise is in 1-6 (1701 “Refit” & 1701-A).

First Contact is my favorite Next Generation film, and sometimes I feel that Insurrection gets a bad rap. Yeah, it’s not as good as First Contact (or probably Generations imo), but it was more a Star Trek movie (due to Johnathan Frakes’ directing) than Nemesis.

I also like the reboot movies.

That’s just my two cents…

A cool series of Criterion-style covers…

Well in Kylon1138 😃

Who made these? They look incredible! Is there any way they can create a different version of the cover for A New Hope to something a little more accurate to the film?

Which versions of TESB & ROTJ would match perfectly with 4K77? Grindhouse? DE?

that’s personal preference.

Is there going to be a 4K80 & 4K83?

yep.

Well, if it took this long for 4K77, then it’s going be awhile (perhaps years?). 😦

I especially want 4K83. Return Of The Jedi is my all time favorite Star Wars movie.

I wonder if these will be released in ISO form…

Update: Just watched a clip for 4K83 on the Star Wars Trilogy website. OMFG! It looks beautiful! 😮

Well, here is a continuation for my WIP for the first of the 3 covers I’m working on (A Modernized callback to the CBS/FOX covers):

And here it is with an added “blanket tint,” adding an “aged” look to it:

It’s not finished yet. It’s still a WIP, and I still have the other two to complete.

I like it. I might even use it.

Question: What kind of paper do you guys use for best results? Normal paper doesn’t result in much contrast.

I’ve been trying to figure that out myself. So far I’ve only used regular 11 x 8.5 printer paper. I want to know the kind of paper used as a standard for official blu ray inserts (whether it’s for a regular case or a criterion)

Okay, so I decide to create a cover set for the Original Trilogy in the style of the CBS/FOX tapes (the set I had when i was very young), but with a modern take to fit the format (also for the Criterion-sized cases). Here is a “WORK-IN-PROGRESS” for STAR WARS:

Update on my WIP for STAR WARS:

The synopsis on the back might be a stand in for the original text (similar to the tape). I don’t know yet The original synopsis seems out of date. Then again, the text you see on the picture is from the THX set.

Two questions:

  1. What kind of paper is used for official blu ray covers?

  2. Does anyone have a Criterion Blu Ray case template?

I haven’t ever found a good template for a criterion Blu Ray cover, but what I have done is downloaded some criterion style covers that other people have made and used that as a template for designing my own. Hope that helps! 😃

Well, I need to to know the exact size for the height and width of the inserts (along with the spine width & height), in case I want to print them on an 11x8.5 sheet of paper.

Well, instead of doing the covers I posted above, I decided to take a bit of an alternate route with them. I took a few of the pictures for each cover and change the “threshold” for each on GIMP. I put a few things together here and there, added one color to text only, and use the paint & eraser tool. The result is my brand new set for the OT (doesn’t matter which version). It’s bold on my part, and me be something of a required taste, but I like the end result. So here they are. Use them if you are into a style like this. I’ll definitely be using them:

These are for standard 12mm (or 12.5mm) cases.

Same. The spine logo looks a little “thin” to me for some reason I can’t quite place, too.

It is a work in progress…

Yes, I know, which is why I gave some constructive feedback so you can improve it as you work on it. If you didn’t want that kind of feedback, why post a work in progress?

I meant no offense. It’s kind of a bad habit. My apologies. I welcome the feedback. 😃
