Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - uncensored HDTV airing(s)
Time

Oh, I understood Doctor M's post to be about Roger Rabbit. Never mind then, yes I've heard the story about The Rescuers.

Word is, those 'censored' frames were inserted by a disgruntled employee and not added intentionally to the film.

On a more serious note where did you hear this, and how would he have managed it? Was he the animator for those shots? Well, *someone* added them intentionally.. :3

From what I've read online, the topless model was inserted probably during post-production. But prints from the original run might not have been affected:

from IMDB.com

I met a film collector who had access to an original release print from 1977 and we went through it frame by frame. The images did not appear in the window, so it seems that a different print was used for the video release in question tann the actual theatrical release.

Then there's this excerpt from an interview that came out when Disney made Tarzan

Thomas Schumacher, Disney's president of animation, explained the reason for the company's caution.

"We had that huge thing with The Rescuers," he says. "A cameraman inserted a tiny two-frame photograph of a topless woman. It was meant as a private joke between him and his friends. Then along comes video and laser discs, and someone out there found it, so we have to be very careful."

Here's a quick compare of a shot that was changed slightly for the bluray. More endless tinkering from Lucas.

Yes, there seems to be added reflections in the windows for the blu. What is that shadow near the bottom middle window post in the hdtv? Doesn't seem to be on the blu.

I do want to ask.  Without freeze framing, does anyone really see these things while watching the film?

Watching the movie without Betty Boop flashing her boobs at me completely ruins the experience for me. The movie really doesn't work without this crucial moment.

Da Nao Tian Gong -- The Monkey King - Uproar In Heaven (1965) RESTORATION *v2*
Time

Time to revive this thread a bit..?

To the best of my knowledge Uproar in Heaven will enter the public domain 1st Jan. 2016 at the latest:

Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China

Chapter II, Section 3

Art. 21

In respect of a cinematographic work, a work created by a process analogous to cinematography or a photographic work, the term of protection [...] shall be fifty years, expiring on December 31 of the fiftieth year after the first publication of such work[...].

Yes, I've still been working on and off (more off unfortunately) on the v2 restoration. As of now only a dozen or so shots remain, but these are the most time consuming and require MAJOR work (mostly rotoscoping).

The v2 will be the final version, there really isn't much more that can be gained from these sources. For a better version a 16 or 35mm print would need to come along.

With a bit of luck the v2 could be ready for new years..

A fresh pair of eyes (English or Chinese) for the subtitles would still be appreciated.

Also still looking for a way to capture two French PAL SECAM VHS tapes (Note: without this the French dub CANNOT be included).

If they're going to bring in another planet-destroying superweapon, then it should be scaled down, something relatively small and maneuverable -- a rocket with a cannon strapped to it, you could say --  not another moon-sized space station.

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking.  I'd rather it be a space gun than another Death Star.

 Like The Tarkin?

The Brave Little Toaster DVD - Ideas on how to restore
Time

Maybe you could post some of the frames above in their straight-from-dvd state for easier comparison? (I have the German dvd which should be the same transfer, but it has some slight picture differences it would seem.)

Did you look at that frame above? It's around the musical sequence in the beginning.

The Russian DVD appears to be the same transfer as the German DVD but seems to have gone through an analog step? And has some temporal chroma artifacts.
