Johnny Got His Gun: Keep the Home Fires Burning Edition DVD Project...half way through (* unfinished project *)
Time

I am back, with an update,  it has been what seems an eternity but the project was always alive but just shelved for the a while since i was going to college and now i have graduated with my bachelors degree. But i really want to get back into this project and i still have the dvd and and the laserdisc, thanks to all that kept this thread alive and i won't forget those who asked for a copy first. thank you

Let's get down to brass tacks.....How much for the Ape?

JK

The following issues are what i am facing at the moment

1. A person who can translate from french to english because there is an interview with the man who preserved the film and i assume restorted it. I still have the elementary streams for the interview and i need someone who can create a subtitle text file to go into the dvd. it is not absolutely essential for the dvd but would be a nice extra

2. Since my computer crashed a year and a half ago i lost all of the work for the laserdisc part of the set i have the laser disc still and the laserdisc player but i no longer have a video capture card i am not asking for a handout but in order to buy one i will have to wait, the card i am looking to buy is the (WinTV-HVR-2250), I AM NOT ASKING FOR MONEY, but what i am asking for is if someone out there has or knows someone who has a video capture card that i can use for the video transfer i would only borrow the card and return it when the job is done. plus who ever lends me the card would get the first copy of the dvd set

3. I am not really good at graphical design, if someone could create a dvd cover for set that would be great i would provide images from my dvd and laserdisc if needed

that's all i can think of for now...any help would be greatly appreciated, thank all of you for your patience. peace

Help: looking for... Robin Williams 1978 HBO Special (unedited)....?
Time
Thanks DrFaustus for the info and yes it was filmed at the roxy, i know it is mostly stuff from the "Reality...What a Concept" but his timing and the improve he did was just perfect. Do you have a copy or know of anyone that has a copy? I would really like to get my hands on this special as it brings back some very good memories for me.

Thanx

Help: looking for... Robin Williams 1978 HBO Special (unedited)....?
Time

If this is in the wrong place please re-locate or notify me and i will relocate it to the proper place. Working on my preservation project, jump started my mind about other things that could be preserved. Does anybody know of, possess, know where to acquire, the Robin Williams 1978 HBO Comedy Special uncencored and unedited? I ask this because i saw it many years ago on HBO, it was hilarious, then i saw it on Comedy Central obviously edited for tv. There is something special about this particular special that struck a nerve with me and i have been trying to track it down ever since. The content is some standard early robin williams standup but there are some pieces that are sheer brilliance. If anyone knows how to get ahold of it i would be forever grateful plus i you would be one the first one(s) to recieve a copy of my restoration project apart from the people who are already asked first.

P.S.
More info on the special-there are numerous shots of celebrities such as Henry"The Fonz" Winkler, John Ritter (RIP), and Joann Worley during the show, if that helps.

Johnny Got His Gun: Keep the Home Fires Burning Edition DVD Project...half way through (* unfinished project *)

After much consideration and many sleepless nights(along with a fried brain), I am going to keep the Restored Movie PAL, but here is the good news, i am going to make an ULTIMATE TWO DISC EDITION : DISC one has the pal dvd with NEW menus and NO burned in subs, and the interview Pierre Rissient(translated), Disc two will have the Entire alternate cut of the film from the Laserdisc and original menus along with ALL the metallica videos on the Two for one LD as a special feature maybe with pcm not to sure on that one.

I came to the conclusion that it is much cheaper and easier to keep the restored dvd pal because most dvd players out now and practically all computers can convert pal to ntsc without any noticable loss in quality. While researching Pal to NTSC and vice versa i tried numerous methods and nothing ever really worked...now if someone has a guide that actually works with details i would be happy to consider it but for now i see this as a better alternative for all of us. if anybody has any questions or comments then feel free to contact me...thanx

welcome abroad trickbaxter

well what i was thinking of doing was a PAL->NTSC conversion for the dvd movie with the english audio, i don't know whether i should include the french audio and subtitles because the subtitles cannot be removed on dvd standalones, when played on dvd drive with software they are easily removed, so i have tough decision there, but the basic idea for movie is this i want to create a dvd with menus, chapter selects, and special features along with pics of the media i have, the special features i want to include the extended scenes from the laserdisc version and any other scenes i may have missed

Unfortunately i cannot edit in the scenes with the dvd version because the laserdisc is NTSC plus it is 4:3(the quality is not very good for the laserdisc), also i want to include the metallica video(in its full cd quality glory) also in the special features and there is an interview that is in the dvd with Pierre Rissient about his involvement with dvd and film , the interview is in french however and i don't understand a word he is saying so finding someone who could translate the interview would be be great, i could add subtitles to the interview or dub it maybe both i don't know...

well thats what i would like for the dvd to have i am going to start capturing the all the video and audio first then go from there...drop me a line when you have any ideas or thoughts on what i said. thanks again

P.s. the dvd came with a book 32 pages about the movie also in French so any help with that would be cool too.

Johnny Got His Gun: Keep the Home Fires Burning Edition DVD Project...half way through (* unfinished project *)
Time

Hello I am New To the Forum but have been reading it for years and i signed the petition back in 2004 i did join a while back but i completely forgot my login info and the email address i used is now defunct…anyway i am rambling,

The real reason i am posting is, I have in my possession the Collectors Edition for Johnny Got His Gun from France that has the best restoration of any dvd on the market now, since i am a huge fan of this film i also have the Laserdisc edition that is an ALTERNATE CUT of the film it has extended scenes in it(More on these later) and as an added bonus i have the Japanese Laserdisc of Metallicas Two of One Video the has the full music video for one with the movie scenes and dialog in it. Well i am considering doing a preservation of this material but since the dvd is PAL, i would like to know what is the best method to convert the media to NTSC.

Also since this forum has proven to have the best advice and people capable of doing this dvd, i welcome any advice, ideas, and other help about the dvd. I would like this to be a group effort but i am not shy about going it alone and then having the finished project critiqued, i am posting this for those interested is all. I look forward to hearing from all of you. thank you in advance.

P.S. Anybody doing a Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd Sync I have the Mobile Fidelity 24 Karat CD original pressing of dark side of the moon which i hear is the only one worth owning.

thanks again,
