<strong>STAR WARS: REBELS</strong> (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread

I’ve been a big fan of Rebels and I think the finale was perfect. Rebels compliments and enhances the Original Trilogy in much the same way Rogue One does.

How long before spoilers can be discussed openly?

Change of plan mate - the thread title has been edited with a warning that this thread contains spoilers for the last 3 episodes of the show - so everyone feel free to talk about them openly.

I think the Sovereign-class looks dumb, and intend to use the Eclipse-class for my edit. However, you did a nice job with the CGI of the shuttle and fighters. Would it be possible for you to provide me those with just a greenscreen behind?

If you made the effort to post that you thought the ‘Sovereign-class looks dumb’ perhaps you could also explain why? Or maybe think of a better way of saying you didn’t think it looked right, because…

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

I’ve been buying the Best Buy steelbooks for the Disney era Star Wars movies and will do the same with the Last Jedi. Do you think its worth it to get the 4K one instead of just the regular blu ray? I don’t have a 4K TV or player yet but was wondering if it would be a good idea to future proof.

Ignore what Collipso says, mate 😉

Personally, I’d opt for the 4K Steelbook version - it’s only a $5 difference, and these things should last a good few years - so will be ok for if/when you do get a 4K tv.

I think it’s a big misunderstanding to say that Kathleen Kennedy put that scene in the film but I’ve seen a few people suggest that. What Rian said was that Kathleen was interested in seeing Leia show force powers, it’s a stretch to believe that Kathy decided how they should be shown. She would leave the writing to the writer.

Source:
https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/star-wars-last-jedi-empire-podcast-spoiler-special-rian-johnson/

That section of the interview starts at about 19:20.

Nice that they gave her some Force-related scenes but they didn’t bother to make her relevant to the plot other than being an RotJ Ackbar-like character like in TFA (what I mean is: she’s the boss of the rebel band… and that’s it). These are the priorities.

Honestly, how is this a big improvement over RotJ? Or even the entire OT? Because Leia didn’t have a character arc in the OT other than a devolution of her character in the Jabba scenes (“Who cares about the galaxy? I must save my love interest!”). And the twist in RotJ had no impact to the story other than two bits of the climax (the Vader-Luke duel and solving the love triangle after the destruction of the second Death Star). And it’s quite sad how Han and Luke gets all the attention in the ST, even after leaving the rest of the galaxy at the mercy of the First Order, but Leia remains all the whole time, creates a paramilitary force and warns the New Republic and yet she’s mostly a background character in these movies.

Sorry, I’m really disappointed with how they have handled the female characters in the Disney movies. They’re not really a huge improvement compared with the Lucas era, other than being more in number, technically being the main protagonists and the lack of sexualization/forced romance.

I think Carrie Fisher is on record as saying that Episode 9 was to be ‘her’ film? (in regards of the 3 main OT cast… Han got most of the scenes in TFA, Luke had most of TLJ, and that IX would Leia’s) - obviously, and sadly, that is no longer going to be the case.

I wonder if part of the delay in announcing this is because maybe it ties to the fate of some of these characters?

Could likely be that mate - good call… 😃

Should Dave Filoni Run The Creative Team at LucasFilm

There’s something about Filoni’s Star Wars sensibility that rubs me the wrong way. Having watched Rebels, it feels remarkably sterile, existing in this purgatory between epic adventure and serialized drama.

True but i would take it over holdo not telling plans to the Resistance and starting a goddamn mutiny.

What?

How is Kathleen Kennedy responsible for that occurrence in TLJ (did she write/come up with the plot and script?, and wasn’t it proved that Holdo’s assertion was correct?)

As for Filoni taking over the creative team… for me, no. It seems he and others do a ‘top job’ with various input into the series and films.

(notably history and lore etc - using other creatives’ work in both Legends / Canon and then retconning or rewriting that work into his own projects - without giving the original creative’s any credit! So much for the ‘one consistent narrative’ and ‘creatively aligned program of Star Wars storytelling’ ideas of nu-canon!)

Maybe he has earnt a chance at a film? That could likely be the next step - if not working on a live action tv series, first?

2023 Edit: Caston & Emre have compiled a couple of informative posts on Dave Filoni’s incorrect claims on canon, and also his re-writing & retconning of other creatives’ projects in both Legends and Canon for use in his own various projects, in The 2008 Clone Wars messes up continuity thread.

All without giving the original creatives any credit - or even links to their original work.

The two ‘info posts’ linked above also covers Filoni’s re-writing and retconning other creatives’ work into his own projects also completely ignores the idea and reasoning given as to why Canon and Legends was introduced by Lucasfilm in 2014.

I really don’t understand the difference between the two, so I pass.

My Vote: I abstain.

Why does this person even get to vote for anything if they don’t know anything?

Indeed mate - and also why isn’t there some bumph somewhere in some sort of ‘Info Pack’ explaining the difference so people can educate themselves - in what the Academy ‘define’ each category as? (before they get anywhere near being in a position to vote for this type of thing)

Forgive my grumpiness - I’m a little disappointed this wasn’t an Oscar from Sesame Street thread - maybe getting his own film based on a future/alternative 2018. Now that would win awards (mainly from me).

When Han Solo was Frozen in Carbinite How did he survive so long without Water ?
Time

Darth Tag said:

HI all. Han solo was not supposed to be frozen in this substance, Luke skywalker was! Boba Fett and Darth Vader agreed to use Han solo as a test. The Carbonite froze everything that was working in him so he did not need any food or water. The real question is, How did he survive if his heart stopped? This is simmilar to a heart attack called Scad. This is when there is a tear in an artery of the heart, Mostly happens to women. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is also called sudden cardiac death. Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, which stops oxygen-rich blood from reaching the brain and other organs. … This causes death of the heart muscle. But a heart attack does not always mean that the heart stops beating. So, Han solo must have survived this!

You bumped a 14 year old post with incorrect medical terms for part of a plot from a sci-fi film - as your first post on here?

SCA can often result in a sudden cardiac death - yet Solo didn’t die… nor did he seemingly suffer from a heart attack from being frozen in carbonite. Nor did ‘This causes death of the heart muscle’.

Bad bot.

Star Wars 8: Rian Johnson THREW OUT JJ Abrams entire Last Jedi outline says Daisy Ridley

Ah mate - that’s from the Daily Express - who seem to often run/sensationalise a daily click-bait Star Wars article taken out of context just to get hits. They are not reliable - or accurate in their reporting/article content - personally I’d take anything that appears from there with a pinch of salt.

A more accurate article in the context of what Daisy Ridley originally said, and where she said it, can be found here:-
