No. Both are bland and pointless and devoid of any heart and soul. They’re full of completely uncompelling characters and exist purely to cash in on names and imagery associated with a much better film (Star Wars).

Yeah I don’t see a single thing you said I agreed with, but I’m sure there’s no reason to continue.

I just don’t appreciate being called a delusional troll in my own thread.

And of course oojason is nowhere to be seen.

Most Baffling Complaint of a Star Wars Movie

That Darth is a title, not a name. I mean, why the hell not? First of all, it’s a solid portmanteau (“Dark Lord of the Sith”). Second of all, maybe this is just me, but I think Darth is kind of a funny name, but works fine as a title. Also, despite what people say, there is nothing in the OT that would suggest this shouldn’t be the case.

Disagree. At least in terms of how Obi-wan refers to him which suggests he was called Darth before he turned to evil and that was his first name.

Nope.

Are we still allowed to cite The Secret History of Star Wars on this forum, or is that a banning offence now?

?

I decided I had more to say on the Last Jedi and it took me a long time to gather my thoughts on it ,so I wrote an article on it …https://screamsinthevoid.deviantart.com/journal/

Really enjoyed reading that - nice one 😃

Seems a fair bit of credit should be going to those others who have contributed to Star Wars before…

a Snoopy / Peanuts / Charlie Brown appreciation thread - including the 2015 film
Time

As a Brit I never really ‘got’ the whole Charlie Brown thing - sure, it was on UK kids tv a LOT growing up in the 70’s & 80’s… yet it was his cool beagle dog with attitude, and his occasional sidekick Woodstock, that hooked me into the program - and also likely into watching other cartoons too 😃

Don’t get me wrong, Charlie and his friends were still sound and somewhat funny (though that Lucy was a little mean with her ball antics - I think this may have given my sister some ideas when we used to sit down and watch it together on how to taunt her brothers). I also had a soft spot for Linus with his blanket… yet it was that dog with the playful, yet stern, demeanour - and neat flying skills & goggles - which stole the show for me.

Anyway… many, many years pass… and I recently got roped (tricked) into babysitting my sister’s young kids for the day - an event I was not looking forward to. I’m only used to giving the bundles of loud endless energy back back to their parents after a 3/4 hours babysitting previously (all sugared up - as favourite Uncle Jason has bribed with them with sweets & biscuits), and pretty much let them run riot - safe in the knowledge their parents can deal with the aftermath…

Unfortunately, this time it was going to be a whole day (well, 8-9 hours)… and quite different and challenging for someone like me who has only changed a nappy once before - and enjoys tranquil peace and quiet. Thankfully, the two kids are at that age where they are just getting into watching tv - and the fortunate opportunity came up to sit down with them and watch some kids tv (aka ‘quiet time’ as I have heard parents call it 😉)

As luck would have it… after a repeated array of ‘No! Don’t like it!!!’ on a long list of children’s films and tv programs to choose from they chose… 2015’s The Peanuts Movie…

Thankfully the kids absolutely loved it; their faces lit up, they were laughing away, transfixed by what was going on in the film - and enjoyed it so much that afterwards the youngest tyke tried to paint my dog white - so it’d be ‘a Snoopy dog’ (my dog declined the invitation to be painted - nonchalantly wishing to remain unbrushed and left alone in her own aloof Snoopy stylee).

The rest of the day was taken up by the kids getting out some some very old Snoopy jigsaws and Snoopy colouring books - the same ones as me and my sister had done when we were kids. Later there was some den/kennel building - just like Snoopy’s red kennel - which’d be soon full of all their toys, crayons and paintbrushes etc. This thankfully all resulted in the 2 tykes getting tired and needing a nap - right up until they were woken and sugared up with goodies - just before their parents came to collect them…

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed The Peanuts Movie too - and will give it a re-watch soon (without those distracting, loud, meddling, pesky lovely kids!) - and may look up some of those older cartoons myself…

So here’s to Snoopy, Peanuts, Charlie Brown, Charles M. Schulz - and spending time & memories with family.

Kelly's Heroes (1970 film) - the one with Oddball & the positive waves...
Time

Kelly’s Heroes really is a beautiful mother bridge film - yet not a ‘proper’ real gritty war film as such -
though the start of the film certainly has that vibe and look - before somehow naturally evolving into a laid-back heist film set in World War 2.

Not many films have a character where Clint Eastwood plays the lead role - and is then outshone - by the one and only Donald Sutherland’s Oddball - possibly the first hippy of World War 2…

The film boasts a cracking cast - Telly Savalas (on great form as ‘Big Joe’ - despite being an anti-social type), Don Rickles, Carroll O’Connor, Gavin MacLeod, Harry Dean Stanton, Karl-Otto Alberty & Stuart Margolin - and the ensemble nature really comes to the fore with some quality performances throughout.

A kickback and rest-up film - ideal for a lazy Sunday afternoon whilst drinking wine, eating some cheese, catching some rays… or coming back home from the pub late & drunk, finding this on tv and tuning in with a big goofy smile on the face - knowing what is to come…

The memes, gifs, impressions, beards, memorable quotes etc have all been done before… the Oddball character has inspired many a cult tribute down the years 😉 and the film itself is an enjoyable caper / robbery movie of sorts - from the writer of The Italian Job (the 1969 version).

Kelly’s Heroes – some of the best quotes - article from WarHistoryOnline.com

Kelly’s Heroes - some more great quotes - from Great-Quotes.com

Film Synopsis (from IMDB) - ‘During World War II, Lieutenant Kelly learns of a German bank located behind enemy lines containing 16 million dollars in gold bars. His platoon, led by Big Joe, has three days of R&R coming, so, with the aid of hustler Crapgame, anachronistic hippie Oddball, three Sherman tanks and a touch of irreverence, Kelly leads his men deep into French territory to steal the gold for themselves.’

A bit of trivia - The film is based on a true incident. The caper was covered in a book called “Nazi Gold: The Sensational Story of the World’s Greatest Robbery–and the Greatest Criminal Cover-Up” by Ian Sayer and Douglas Botting. The heist was perpetrated by a combination of renegade Nazi and American officers. It was also listed as the “biggest” robbery ever in the Guinness Book of Records, in the 1960s.

A bit more trivia - In the 1990s a group of Swedish war game enthusiasts started to build a 1/72-scale model of the town where the robbery takes place. Trying to make their model as accurate as possible, they even traveled to Vizinada - which is now in Croatia - and in fact hired a pilot and plane to get aerial photos of the town. Croatian authorities thought they were foreign spies and arrested them. Reportedly, they were released after a couple of hours.

Trivia you likely already know - Donald Sutherland contracted spinal meningitis during filming, there were no antibiotics around and he went into a coma. His wife received a telegram telling her to come immediately - yet also warning her that he would probably be dead before she arrived. Thankfully the big man pulled through - and then continued filming.

A last bit of trivia - One of the nuns walking through the village as Oddball’s Sherman rolls by is… production assistant and later Hollywood movie director John Landis.

The film can usually be picked up brand new for around £5 / $5 on dvd or blu ray - and is seemingly playing on TCM or some other similar tv channel every month or so 😃

My film rating…

(4 woofs from 5)

If you haven’t seen it yet then have I hope you do get the chance to view it sometime.

If you haven’t seen it for a while it’s well worth a re-watch with so many positive waves.

Meanwhile…

Are you sure it isn’t psychological in origin? Have you tried asking your ear how it’s feeling about life?

Oh Fuck off.

paja, you have a PM, mate.

In his defense I wasnt offended by it and I don’t think he was tryimg to hurt. And I also don’t know that it was necessary to announce to everybody that you were sending him a message about one of his posts, kinda plays right in to the hands of the camp that think (some) of the mods here (sometimes) treat people like children who need scolded.

With respect to you Possessed, you don’t know what I said to paja in my PM - though it certainly wasn’t a scolding, nor was it anything of the sort - more of an explanation of a possible misunderstanding.

Though I guessed you were okay with it from your post afterwards - and possibly that paja may be a little off - as many of us are when suffering from ailments / illness etc.

Someone did a re-working of the colours for the UK poster, here…

a side by side comparison can be found here - https://twitter.com/RuairiRobinson/status/987105936098541568

Not a big thing - but some people like a more natural colour to their art (my old eyes couldn’t tell that much)

Your guess is correct 😃

I hope Milan make it back into the Top 4 next season under Gattuso, and that the owners free up a little more cash to help that happen. Your club has some great friendly fans, and what a team they were to watch back in the day.

Edit: Arsene Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the current season… (22 years managing a club as big as them - all doing it in his style of passing football (and wining a lot of trophies along the way) - fair play, that man.
