Any interest in professionally made box sets for Despecialized?

Then I agree that digipacks are the best options.

But what do we do in terms of specs and such? I assume our own Despecialized sets vary in terms of audio options, subtitles, special features, number of discs (anywhere from 1 to 3 per film) etc.?

That is true that there is a great deal of variance between versions of Despecialized, but if we look at the NJVC set, there are really only 2 options, 25 and 50 GB. Using those as a template might simplify the process, but I am sure that Jo can explain to what level we can customize our printed materials.

In terms of full slips vs Digi packs, I would prefer the full slips for my Criterion Cases and after test fitting one of my cases in a steelbook full slip Jo made for me previously, I found that the Criterion cases will fit his steelbook slips…so we are good there.

I think that getting a point person for the countries represented by the community and selection of designs/options seem to be the next logical steps…

I would love a professional set of slip cases. I make my own labels, case covers, inserts, even boxes - but for some reason my slip cases never come out well at all.

I had the same struggles with the slips I tried to DIY; I never could quite get them the way I wanted.

I contacted Jose yesterday; hopefully he will join the boards in the next few days and be able to field questions and get this project off the ground.

This is brilliant! Crap, now the problem is how does one choose between Digipaks or Steelbooks?

I’m sure both will be amazing.

There is a third option, that being slip covers printed to cover the cases which have already been purchased, which is what I chose to do. Jose printed the slips slightly larger to accommodate my Criterion cases, they are pictured above.

In terms of pricing, steel books will be the most expensive and labor intensive…buying the empty, disassembly and the painting, etc. The process is very similar to what others on the boards have done.

The next option in terms of price will be Digi Packs and then, slips.

Jose can give specifics or perhaps clarify options next week.

I’ve been making custom discs lately so a custom made box would be nice. Count me in as interested. Will he accept individual requests or will he just be creating sets based on the same design(s)???

That is a great question. In the past with my prsonal orders, he has been pretty flexible, like printing custom things for my box set and changing out the single disc amray holder for a 3 disc, so I am sure that there will be some customization in the project. I am thinking about asking him to offer 3 designs that we can then perhaps mix or match to suit our needs. To be fair to him, we probably need to settle on a few options instead of a few dozen buyers all wanting something different. Once I get back in the office on Tuesday I will contact him about joining the forums so that he can answer some of these questions directly. Also, he is in Spain, so Spanish or English won’t be an issue, but if there is another language desired, he may be able to print out whatever you want as long as you provide the translated text desired. He can also then address issues like pricing and shipping costs.

Thanks!

I am very tempted by the idea of professional looking Media. But it also feels wrong to allow consumerism the be tacked on to something that starts out so free.

It’s sort of like Harmy applied a copy-left license to despecialized, and it applies to all derivative products as well. So having anyone contribute in a commercial way violates that.

That’s just my thoughts. Of course Harmy didn’t apply a copy-left license to despecialized. And I don’t think this actually violates anything in the letter of the law. But for me, I think it does violate the spirit of the law.

Thanks for the insight. I had not looked at it that way. If the majority of the community feels likewise, I will tell my contact that the project is a no-go and ask that the thread be locked. So if others feel that this violates the spirit of the project, please let me know here or via PM and I will take appropriate action. Thanks!

And as far as those people who may still want to purchase something like this from this individual directly, you may be all means contact him and conduct your own private transaction.

So community, what say you?

I think it’s a great idea you are doing here mate - and hope it comes off and does well - and yes, I’d be interested too 😃

Yet I also see where Dhamage is coming from and agree with it too… plus half the fun is knocking up your own stuff at times - no matter had bad it may be at first (I’m referring to my stuff here 😉) and then trying to improve upon it.

It may be an idea to get ‘the ok’ from Harmy? - or njvc too IF the boxes/and covers etc will feature some of his work as well?

Good luck with it mate - again, it’s just my two penneth, but think this is a great idea, nice one!

edit - ps, like darthrush says above - I don’t we should be paying for the films themselves, just paying for the boxes, covers and slipcovers and postcards etc

pps - those are truly beautiful looking sets you posted mate 😃

Thanks! And you are right, there will no discs included with any set; the guy doesn’t have any discs himself, he just sells the sets and then the buyer adds their own discs.

And coming from a 007 fan such as yourself, I appreciate the feedback.
