The Empire Strikes Back "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction - Adywan (Released)
Time

I tried to find someone's previous post about the audio drop outs in the climax of the gantry scene and the Falcon's Bespin escape but I couldn't find it in the thread.

Anyway, wanted to let the poster know that I also heard those audio drop outs last night. Has anyone else heard them? They are literally for a single frame each but noticeable.

I know this is a pretty damn daring suggestion that most likely won't get done and probably will meet a lot of criticism, BUT... I am currently watching ESB on Spike and I can't help but wish Adywan would cleverly edit out the infamous Luke and Leia kiss. Unless he plans to remove the sibling twist in Jedi, it really does just ruin the whole scene because any fan knows just WHAT is going on there.

From Gary Kurtz on the original concept for the trilogy: "So the story was quite a bit more poignant and the ending was the coronation of Leia as the queen of what was left of her people, to take over the royal symbol. That meant she was then isolated from all of the rest and Luke went off then by himself. It was basically a kind of bittersweet ending. She’s not his sister that dropped in to wrap up everything neatly. His sister was someone else way over on the other side of the galaxy and she wasn’t going to show up until the next episode."

The Empire Strikes Back "1980 Theatrical version" Reconstruction - Adywan (Released)
Time

I was watching this last night and Lando had just rescued Leia and company. They start heading after Boba Fett and, I kid you not, they were on the East Platform firing at Slave I when I realized I hadn't noticed the restoration of the Bespin hallways from a few shots before! I immediately stopped and went back to the shots and I ran them, and ran them, and ran them! I was watching on a 47-inch widescreen 1080 display and I couldn't see ANY quality loss! I realized then that's why I didn't notice! And what's funnier, because those SE-hallways and vistas weren't there, I wasn't pulled out of the movie to notice anything!

I was watching MY Empire again! Without any grainy artifacting or soupy smearing colors. Nor the "TECHNICOLOR musical" color timing of the 2004 DVD!

This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL work my friend! I've NEVER seen Empire look this good - EVER!!!! And I've watched it easily 200 or more times in my life! As I watched the Reconstruction, I was looking back at my history of watching Empire (as a few involuntary tears streamed down my face) I realized the last time I had seen Empire at a current home video standard was with the 1993 Definitive Laserdiscs I bought back in 1994. Even with that quality then, which was considered very good, the film had five sides on three discs so it was constantly being interrupted! Before that, the only uninterrupted version I had was the CBS FOX VHS pan & scan video tape!

You really brought this film back to life!!!

I was watching the GOUT and Laserdiscs until this gem came my way. I just cannot stand the Lucas SE - I cannot wait to see your Empire Revisited man! You have the sensibilities in line with mine for Special Edition edits. I'm excited to soon see the Empire Revisted with the redone lightsabers!

I cannot thank you enough - there aren't words to describe what this means to me.

Oh, and Nick - seriously let me know when you're ready to post those covers - That second one is KILLER and exactly what I wanted for this disc.

Thanks!

OK, so any help is appreciated. I went to "tehp" and found the links but they're in a box on the thread and the end of the link is cut off so everytime I can't get the whole link so I can't download the file.

I don't know if it's a browser issue or what, but it's really frustrating. A PM with some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Is it me or have the forums become a tad bitchy of late? I have noticed especially in the last six to eight months that if someone says something wrong or out of agreement with other members, that certain forum members go to town with bitching and (dare I say it?) bullying the member in question into submission.

It is not funny! it is cruel.

So what if someone has put up a double post! so what if someone says something that you do not agree with. If you feel that it is wrong say it in an intelligent manner and don't rip someone to shreds!

This is an online forum for fans of Adywan and his amazing edits. Lets keep our bitchy comments to ourselves and stop this bullying and bitching nonsense.

It detracts from why we are really here.

My feelings as well. The kneejerk reactions and condescending posturing are tiring. Adywan has always been able to effectively guide the conversation here when someone was confused or off base. No need for everyone to become self-proclaimed lieutenants. Let's keep it constructive.

Ady, great work on the Falcon/Destroyer shots! Awesome color and starfield! Can't wait to see it all together!

Just because you're a clone doesn't mean you have the same voice. A clone of someone raised in another country will speak a different language with a different accent, thereby changing their vocal pattern, despite being an exact copy of a person on the other side of the world...

This may have been brought up before, and if so I apologize, but I was watching the GOUT DVD this morning and I noticed that when the Falcon releases its landing claw and starts to float away from the Star Destroyer, the view through the cockpit frame has this awful flub in the composite on the right side of the cockpit frame where it looks like they misaligned the background plate because there is this dark gray "screen edge," a perfectly straight edge that is dark gray and covers some of the Falcon's cockpit windows as they float away - clearly unintended, a serious effects flaw.

Is this in the Special Edition/2004 DVD?

I would like to address something I have just learned from watching Empire SE. I have learned that in the sound mix of the SE/2004 DVD, Yoda's voice is all messed up in the "stew-eating" scene. The voice has been re-pitched into a high-pitched squeal almost. I immediately thought this was odd, and to make sure I wasn't hearing things, I tested my pre-SE Laserdiscs and GOUT DVD. Sure enough, his voice was deeper and more, well, Yoda. You can hear the difference particularly in the line - "Why wish you become Jedi?"

Please add this to your sound editing notes for the audio side of Empire Revisited. The GOUT/Pre-SE sounds far superior.
